from an analytical standpoint: How Stephanie Meyer’s religion impacted Twilight’s story & storytelling
>>”No like for real. Let’s break this down because I genuinely don’t understand how there are people who still think the Cullens are the good guys and everyone else specially the Volturi were the bad guys.”
The Cullens are the “Good guys” (from Bella/SM’s POV) because they basically represent the perfect Mormon family unit with powers. Without getting into the whole transformation process details, I will just say that LDS members (Mormons) believe God was once human, and that they too can achieve Godhood should they get into the highest level of heaven.
[this is also why there are so many LDS authors, male and female. The possibilities of world building are ingrained at a young age]
The Volturi, based in “Volterra”, Italy, greatly juxtaposes the Cullens as represent the Catholic church. With their very tight structure, all the rules, contacts and supervising/running the world, etc;… Although the LDS church was not specifically “attacked” by the Catholic church (to my knowledge), since the movement started in a largely Protestant U.S, the tension seems to lie with the fact the Pope is considered God’s “figurehead”. Mormons believe their prophets are God’s figurehead, so the Pope is considered an “imposter” of sorts.
>> “5) Edward has a mental breakdown and decides he is going to expose the existence of vampires in Volterra.”
In defense of the Cullens, The Egyptian Vampires, and The Romanian Vampires, there is no “need” for vampires to be secret. As in humans don’t pose a threat to Vampires whatsoever.
In defense of the Volturi, it’s probably “better” for the world’s vampire population to be relatively low. Having vampires hunt in “the shadows” is arguably better for mankind.
If they chose to reveal themselves after humans have started making all these auto-weapons and bombs, then a “Vampire hunt” would endanger their way of life. Not necessarily because of their safety; it would could cause great human fatalities, effectively diminishing their source of food.
Moreover, with a diminished food supply, vampire clans would likely get into wars themselves to secure territories.
>>”Now, from the Volturi perspective, they receive information that a coven that already has a history of rule-breaking is now apparently creating immortal childs. And like fucking always the Cullens act like this accusation came out of nowhere.”
1. Well, yes. But two truths can exist at once. The Volturi (Aro) wanted Alice and Edward on their side. Aro plays the long game for what he wants after 💀ing his own sister, Didyme, causing Marcus’ intense depression. I don’t think he’s meant to care or love Marcus, but it is a great inconvenience to the “happy-go-lucky” dude.
2. Again, to SM, the Cullens ARE perfect. What you’re saying is right, but that doesn’t change the fact any persecution to the Cullens is (at least subconsciously to SM) a persecution to the LDS Church.
>> “AND THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO constantly presents themselves as victims of Volturi persecution while spending the entire saga acting like rules only apply when they are personally convenient.”
Honestly, cherry picking verses/teachings is common amongst all denominations of Christianity.
LDS members, though, are typically more devout in their faith than the average Christian. So, with that logic, God’s law trumps all other laws.
If we assume the Cullens represent the LDS Church/the perfect LDS family unit and apply that thinking, their “shocked” reactions at being punished for breaking the rules makes more sense.
>>”Then Irina is literally executed in front of her sisters. Sisters who already had their mother executed in front of them. All because she genuinely believed she was reporting an immortal child, which, according to vampire law, is exactly what she was supposed to do. AND THE CULLENS DIDN’T GIVE A SINGLE FUCK! I-😭😭😭😭”
SM loves traumatizing blonde women 😻 That’s all i’ll say 😹
>>”I’m gonna be honest, the Cullens has protagonist syndrome.”
LDS members believe they are the “One True Church”… so… i think that’s a big factor for all the persecution being written as “morally wrong” in the POV we get.
