as someone who uses they/them pronouns and works with children, never let anyone tell you that you can't or shouldn't teach children about pronouns and gender diversity. It's possible, it's easier than you'd think, and it's beautiful
highlights from this summer at camp, where I work as a program staff member:
-I come out of my cabin dressed in a button-up and a tie for our weekly fancy dinner. Eight-year-old boy A sees me and says "she looks nice!" Eight-year-old boy B cries out at the top of his lungs, "IT'S A THEY!"
-A very young girl I'd never spoken to approaches me at checkout, hands me what appears to be a piece of abstract origami, and walks away. I unfold one of the flaps to find "peace love pride gay" written inside
-Nonbinary campers are increasingly out and visible, and they notice me (our camp director now mentions me and our other nonbinary staff member when parents call with concerns about their nonbinary kids attending camp). One spends an entire programming hour glued to my side, talking emphatically about their favorite anime while we walk down the beach together. They later present me with a nonbinary flag friendship bracelet. They're eleven.
-Ten-year-old boy who typically has a great deal of difficulty controlling his impulses and responding appropriately to his emotions asks me suddenly over dinner whether I'm a boy or a girl. I thank him for asking me and tell him I'm not either. He responds, ever-so-chipper, "well, (camp name), I like you just the way you are!"
-Yet another rowdy ten-year-old boy, at the end of his second session at camp of the summer, tells me unprompted at dinner, "you know, (camp name), I'm really glad I came to camp, because you're the first they/them person I've met. I'm sorry if I get it wrong sometimes."
My 8 year old met a non-binary person at camp a couple of weeks ago (another child) and when I picked him up, I asked if he made any new friends and he said, “Yes, Nathan who is a boy and Ari who is neither a boy or a girl.”
It was said with such certainty and when he mentioned Ari later, he referred to them as a “she” and then stopped and said, “wait, Ari uses they/them so they said...” He’s 8. Kids can absolutely learn this and have fewer problems with it than grown ups often do.
I am bowled away by these gorgeous infographic photos by @kittynaut!
with all the shit JK Rowling had just said about trans women, and with the new Fantastic Beasts trailer dropping, reminder to NOT go see that movie, or buy merch, or watch that stupid "return to hogwarts" shit, and instead, consider donating a dollar or two to a financially struggling trans woman this holiday season, or to a charity dedicated to helping trans people, such as Gendered Intelligence or Mermaids
*awkwardly walks in room* hii guys 🙂
I’m just going to leave this here…

lumberjanes is based off of a comic created by shannon watters, noelle stevenson, and brooklyn allen, it’s about a group of girls who attend a camp for hardcore lady types and go on adventures together, solving mysteries. in the comics, we see:
two lesbian protagonists in a healthy, loving relationship
a trans girl protagonist who is openly trans and happy with herself, and just another one of the girls
various girls who are butch lesbians or coded as butch lesbians
various girls who are gender nonconforming
an ace girl who enters a relationship with another girl, and they discuss the ace girl’s boundaries and her girlfriend respects them
a nonbinary character who starts out going to the boys camp but then realizes they’d prefer to go by they/them pronouns and attend the girl’s camp. the trans girl helps them with their journey, and they discuss gender together!
a background relationship between the camp director and her ex girlfriend - they’re still in love but they have different beliefs about the magic of the forest, so they stay separated and pining
a girl who has two dads
various other background canon lgbt/lgbt-coded characters!
please support lumberjanes. read the comics if you’re interested (they’re sweet, cute, and funny, and the arcs are wonderful! it’s a kids comic but it’s really for all ages) and continue to show support for the show. there are even traditional books (written at the middle-grade level) if you want to check those out. overall, lumberjanes in general is a great piece of media and i’m so excited to see how the show turns out!
You’ll never guess what game I’ve been playing recently
this guy would survive in movies
girl i hope you appreciate your boyfriend. he just stood practically on top of a horror movie monster so you could get out of the elevator first. he loves you.
are we going to ignore the actress who got kicked in the face
well thats the price you pay for fucking terrifying someone
This whole post is GOLD
Yea, if you’re an actor and you deliberately try to freak people out then you need to be aware it’s flight or FIGHT. There’s a chance that someone will run away screaming but someone could also square up and try to kick your creepy ass.
By deciding to be a creepy bastard you are accepting the possibility that you might end up getting hurt and I do not feel sorry for you.
But a quick reminder: if you go to a haunted house, DONT GO if you know you react to fear with violence. You’re paying to be scared by these actors; they’re doing their jobs. They don’t deserve to be punched for something you signed off on.
But if you’re an actor or prankster who’s picking targets who didn’t consent ahead of time, be warned, you might get punched.
Every discussion point on this post is gold

Alright shitstains listen up because I just found god in a bottle.
If you’re a nerd like me your body’s probably riddled with a few nerd tattoos yeah? Some of ‘em in some pretty obvious places? Maybe you work in a professional environment that frowns upon body ink? Maybe you’re a cosplayer and you have some revealing outfits that you need to cover up for, yeah? Tattoos that you can’t afford that $30 Kat Von D Tattoo cover up because you’re a cheap broke shit?
Story of my life bud.
Now I have a pretty obvious Squad 11 tattoo, because I’m a Bleach nerd and Zaraki Kenpachi is my husband, and honestly it’s difficult to hide it in some of my cosplays because it’s bright and black and right smack dab on my shoulder. Poor planning on my part but hey, squad represent.
You see that glorious miracle up there? That’s Mehron Tattoo Cover. You see those pictures underneath it? Tattoo? What fucking tattoo?! It’s gone!!!! Vamoosed!!! Like I never got the ink in the first place!!!!
This shit is durable, and I mean durable. It’s completely waterproof and that first picture of my tattoo is actually what it looked like after scrubbing at it with two makeup wipes. TWO. It’s not going anywhere
And the best part?
IT COMES IN DIFFERENT SKINTONES. BAM. WHAT.
I mean it’s not phenomenal but hey at least it’s not just “pale as fuck”.
And you wanna know the second best part?
It’s only 12 bucks on Amazon
Yeah. $12. Not $30. Because $12 is much more reasonable than $30.
As for size reference, that’s how big it is in that third picture right there. It’s honestly the best investment I could have made and everybody should know about it.
Go forth and conquer with your newfound knowledge. You’re all welcome.
As someone who used to chair a stage makeup department, Mehron and Ben Nye are going to be cheaper and better than whatever concealer/orange eye shadow/green lipstick whatever weird tutorial you found or expensive-ass luxury concealer.
Why you ask?
Because Mehron and Ben Nye are stage makeup. They’re meant to give thick, full coverage in one layer that can stand up to cameras and stage lights. Blend it out, powder it, and you’ll never look back. Plus it’s cheap enough that you can buy 2 and mix the perfect shade.
This will work on scars, too.
Just an FYI for folks I know who may want to cover for cosplays, work, or personal reasons.
Honestly this would be a life saver for people with tats stuck looking for jobs in places that frown on them.
I’ve watched people not get jobs at places I work even though their personalities and experience levels were exactly what we were looking for purely because of personal adornment (tattoos, piercings, etc.). So to anyone who might need a product like this, I hope you see this post.
Reblogging in case anyone wants to know how to hide scars specifically.
