ilove people who work at front desks of things. i can walk into a building and go to the desk and i ask how do i do this thing. and then they just fucking tell me !!!!
i walked into my college found the first desk and asked hey where do i pay my student fees. did that. ok where i do find the academic advisor? got the general direction, went up to the first desk i saw, asked where to go to drop a class .awesome. went to the bookstore, walked up to the desk, asked how to find out what textbooks i need. and AGAIN they had answers for me. this is so cool thank you desk people
no this is so real actually !! it always feels like you'll be expected to know everything when you do Adult Things but you don't, actually, you just need to know who to ask
I think it’s actually essential as elective GLP1 companies continue to glamorize malnourishment that I never shut up about being a girl who eats and loves food and enjoys food and enjoys being FULL and satisfied and satiated
I am a human being who enjoys carbs and sugars and grease and fat and salt and big portions because my prehistoric ancestors LIVED by it and put those cravings into my genes
Went out and got the most DELECTABLE flautas today my friends. Everyone (but ESPECIALLY girls, women, and fems) tell me your most recent incredible food experience, or a food experience you are looking forward to.
I want you guys to all start making a bigger stink about Tumblr's Age Verification Horseshit.
Like they tried to change Reblogs and people rightfully got up in arms, this is a LOT worse. In order to have access to any sort of thing dubbed mature, and We haveALL seen what they think is mature, Everything from a black and white photo of a black woman's arm, to posts about IUD recalls, to a nude painted by a 17th century artist, to anything involving the word Trans; you have to send your personal information to a third party site that WILL get hacked, and you will be doxxed. And they can say "Oh shit, well it wasn't us who sent your name address and gender identity to Moldovan teenagers, here's a couple extra minutes in the ball pit.
That's bad enough!!!!!!!! But the entire idea of needing permission from state authorities to access anything labeled mature by our friendly AI overlords is some fucking Boll shit. Die Gedenken Sind Frie baby. This is all a reaction to people getting uppity about their lowly lowly rights and is being propped up by the same bad actors tht have made life unlivable. Fuck that shit.
"Well it's only being rolled out in Brazil and UK" Yeah, to start. "Well they're being forced to do this by laws." YOu know it's always really funny when these tech giants (Or whatever you call owning tumblr dot com) get really antsy about laws considering they pick and choose which ones they abide by.
This is a breaking point and it's going to be very interesting to see how we proceed from here.
i get this now and it won't let me click through to any 'mature' blogs :(
Where's the fucking. The form. The fucking form. Hang on, lemme find it.
Tumblr is a place to express yourself, discover yourself, and bond over the stuff you love. It's where your interests connect you with your

Google Chrome has been installing an AI model on users devices without their consent.
Since that file path is only on the screen for a second, the ai is located in
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\OptGuideOnDeviceModel\weights.bin
OKAY SO. If you, like me, are stuck using Chrome for work reasons (I use firefox for everything else), here's what you should actually do:
On Google Chrome, type in chrome://settings and hit Enter. Using the search bar on this page, run a search for "AI". I don't care that you've done this in the past already, they quiet added the shitty option recently. Scroll almost ALL the way down and look for the On-device AI option, and toggle it off. The bastard's on by default.
Just to be safe, you can go through all the OTHER hits you got on that search and turn anything fishy off. Yes, this includes the spellcheck and grammar check in some instances. It's wild. You know how people keep complaining that Google gives them shitty "corrections" these days? It's crowdsourced AI, and no longer a dictionary and grammar ruleset. Unfortunately this is powered by the way people write, and people are not good at writing unless they are professionals. Anyway.
Now that you've turned off the On-device AI, go back to the search bar on Chrome and type in chrome://flags and hit enter. This will bring you to Chrome's bullshit experimental features, most of which are on by Default without asking. Fun!
Using the search bar on this page, search for "Enables Optimization Guide on Device" and set it to Disabled, then look for "Prompt API" and set both options to Disabled.
If you know what you're doing, run a search for AI AND a search for Gemini and Disable anything that looks off to you. If you don't know what you're doing, maybe don't touch anything if you're not sure what it does xD
Now that you've toggled those options off, you're going to want to open Windows Explorer and type in %LocalAppData% and follow the path @pirateprincessjess noted: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\OptGuideOnDeviceModel\[DATE]\
Delete the weights.bin file from this folder and clear your recycle bin
DO NOTE, if you DON'T turn off the On-device AI option from the settings as I explained in step one, the malware weights.bin file will redownload itself. I know this because it happened to me and I had to go digging.
If you followed every step here, you should be good!
I did all of this yesterday after finding that the 4GB file had redownloaded itself onto my computer and I've been monitoring my appdata folder since (it's been clean so far after a full 8 hours of work!). Still, it might be a good idea to keep checking back just in case Google tries to pull some kind of new shit without our knowledge.
YES I know that getting rid of Chrome altogether is the best option. Some of us can't. This is the workaround for that. Fuck Google and fuck Google Chrome.
OH, and don't use any Chromium-based browsers either. That's most browsers, by the way.
If you can switch to Firefox, do so now. Don't wait. It takes two minutes to migrate, you have access to a ton of extensions for privacy, and it has a built-in AI killswitch now. It will import all of your bookmarks and stuff. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Woman murders man in broad daylight
beautiful like to reblog ratio on this
That's because people are reblogging it every time they see it. Like I'm doing right now lmao
"This week I discovered the same pattern, executed by Google. Google Chrome is reaching into users' machines and writing a 4 GB on-device AI model file to disk without asking."
Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise t
pretty sure I did the chrome//flags thing a while ago, but also i switched to firefox, which is not without the occasional bullshit, but is vastly less bullshitty than chrome. This is why I treat genai "features" like the invasive blackberry bushes they are: cut, root, burn, and vigilantly watch for new shoots to uproot. I'm 54 years old and the world got by fine without genai for most of my lifetime.

The only ways to make the deletion stick are to disable Chrome's Al features through chrome://flags or enterprise policy tooling that home users do not generally have, or to uninstall Chrome entirely
...
Adding the file took zero clicks. Removing it requires (a) discovering the file exists, (b) understanding what it is, (c) navigating into a hidden user profile path, (d) deleting it (and on Windows, also clearing the read-only attribute first), and (e) accepting that Chrome will silently re-download it on next eligible window unless the user also navigates chrome://flags, enterprise policy, or platform-specific configuration tooling to disable the underlying Chrome Al feature. None of those steps is documented in the place a normal user looks - none of them is even hinted at in default Chrome.
Google Chrome automatically installs local neural network components on user systems via default configurations. The browser downloads a 4GB
Instructions to disable it above.
The same tech blog also recently exposed that Anthropic is doing similarly shady things with most Chromium-based browsers (so, most browsers aside from Safari and Firefox-based browsers) if you have Claude Desktop installed. Probably not an issue for most on this site, but worth being aware of.
It's May 4th, which means it's time for my favourite Star Wars meme
(bloodstained and bruised) how am i? im pretty good just a little tired
After years of meaning to read it but never seeming to have the time, I finally started reading "How To Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. I've been told by countless people that this book is the ultimate handbook on how to talk to and deal with people.
I'm not far in, but so far it's been pretty interesting and insightful. This book is almost 100 years old but so far everything I've read seems to still hold up today.
I've had a few people message me asking about more resources on how to improve their social skills. There's always r/etiquette (I don't even have a reddit but I find myself lurking) but, if you're looking to read something to help brush up on your social skills, I can so far recommend "How To Wind Friends and Influence People"
Although, take my recommendation with a grain of salt because I haven't finished it yet. But I tried looking up if there was any criticism for it and had a hard time finding any. It is slightly more focused on social skills for a business setting, but honestly those skills can transfer to just about any social setting. (such as presenting your views and opinions to people in a way that doesn't make people feel attacked, and generally making people feel comfortable and at ease around you)
If there was one book I would suggest to everyone on here, Twitter (or X or whatever) and everywhere else on the internet where people lash out at strangers for no reason, it would be this book.
Because one concept it keeps returning to is that people do not like people who lash out at them, people who criticize them, people who scold them. People also do not listen to people who lash out at them, criticize them, and scold them. If you want people to like you, and people to actually listen to you, you should start by not doing that.
@2ndgengeek thank you, gonna go ahead and add this to my to-read list :) also as an FYI for any of my followers looking for more sources on manners / etiquette / social skills
@connanro also adding this to my reading list (and reccs for books on manners to my followers), thank you!
It's been ages since I read it and it is older, but What Does Everybody Else Know That I Don't? by Michele Novotni is specifically aimed at people with ADHD. Some of it is hella basic, but in all honesty it's shit I didn't know until I was an adult.

since the concept of "romance as horror" keeps getting misinterpreted, id like to propose a much clearer alternative: romance as an instrument of torture
reblog to reassure the next person who reads this that everything is going to be okay and it’s all going to get easier soon
but on the real though, here is your guide to assyrian rice preparation from your friendly neighborhood assyrian:
start wanting rice. (or, if you are traditional, simply recognize your constant desire for rice.)
measure out two cups of rice. then one more. then two more. then another. this seems fine. you love rice. there is no way that this will backfire on you.
remember that your great-great-uncle’s recipe says it should be soaked overnight.
become consumed with despair.
decide to soak it for half an hour instead, acknowledging that the final product will be inferior and anger your ancestors but will still satisfy your now almost-overwhelming need for rice to be inside your body much faster.
remember that you should have set the water to boil when you soaked the rice. goddammit.
once the water boils, put the rice in until it is half-cooked. the eyeballing or intuitive method is less effective than a timer but that’s how your aunt does it so you feel compelled to meet her standards.
now that the rice has fluffed up, realize how much rice six dry cups really is. holy shit. you’ve fucked up immeasurably.
take a minute to dwell upon your failings.
grease a baking dish with butter. this will never be as elegant as you want it to and your fingers will get greasy, but the slightly shameful, self-indulgent joy of licking your fingers afterwards will make up for it.
pour the rice into the dish. wonder immediately if you actually buttered the dish beforehand and if you’ve just fucked up.
melt approximately one thousand pounds of butter in the microwave and pour it over the rice, pondering your imminent death from rapid-onset arterial clogging. put a small pat of butter on the top to properly gild the lily.
put your pan into the oven, which you have absolutely preheated after your previous lack of foresight. shake the rice once or twice while it bakes to make sure the butter is well distributed. resist the impulse to climb into the oven with the rice. for the last ten minutes, sit next to the oven and count the seconds until it’s done.
remove the dish from the oven. shed a tear or two at the perfection laid before you. if you are dining with others, this is the time to serve the rice while making passive-aggressive statements about how oh no, you don’t need any help, you just made dinner all by yourself, you can serve everyone as well. (this is still fun if done alone, but optional.)
CONSUME THE RICE.
realize that you have eaten half of the dish in one sitting. no matter how much rice you made, this will always happen.
put the leftovers away, if there are any, and enjoy a cup of chai while marveling at the amount of food you have just eaten. if possible, fall asleep in an armchair, sitting up, head tilted slightly back, like a grandpa.
for the rest of the evening, think fondly of how much rice you have in the fridge now and how many meals it will supplement, refusing to acknowledge that you will almost certainly eat the rest of it in a few hours for a midnight meal.
i really played myself with this post huh. every time it gets a note i start wanting rice.
for anyone who wants it, here is my family’s actual recipe for assyrian baked rice:
1lb / approx. 2 ⅓ cups basmati rice (any long-grain rice will do)
3 tbsp salt
8 tbsp / 1 stick butter (you can reduce this if you don’t want to have a heart attack)
Put the rice in a pot and cover it in cold water and salt. Let it soak overnight. (If you don’t have the time to soak it, rinse the rice with cold water until it runs clear.)
Edit: The reason you want to soak basmati and other aromatic rice before cooking is to preserve more acetylpyrroline, the compound that gives aromatic rice its characteristic scent and flavor. Soaking rice allows the grains to absorb water, which reduces the cooking time, which means less time for the acetylpyrroline to cook off. It’ll still taste pretty good if you can’t do this, but you don’t want “pretty good”, you want mind-blowing, so for that perfect flavor you’ll want to soak your rice overnight. The soaking process also washes away the layer of starch on the outside of the rice, which allows the grains to separate rather than sticking together; this is why you want to rinse your rice thoroughly if you don’t have time to soak it.
Preheat your oven to 325°.
Boil three quarts of water in a separate pot. Once it’s at a fast boil, drain the rice and add it to the water. Boil for 5-7min or until one grain tastes half-cooked, but not soft. Pour the rice into a colander and rinse with cold water.
Edit: This step also helps get rid of any remaining starch on your grains, for perfectly separated rice. If your colander or strainer has large holes, you can put a paper towel/cheesecloth/clean dishcloth on the inside in order to drain your rice. Pour carefully if you’re using a paper towel, though, and put a bowl underneath your colander; I once lost a heartbreaking amount of rice when my paper towel got oversaturated and tore open.
Liberally grease the bottom of your baking pan with some of your butter. Pour the rice on top. Melt the rest of the butter in the microwave and pour on top of the rice.
Bake for 45min. (If you like, cover the rice for part or all of the baking time, but I find it gets less crispy on top if you do this.) Shake the pan a couple times during baking to ensure that the butter distributes throughout the entire dish.
Eat.
Serves four. Can easily be scaled up if needed (or down, but why would you do that?). Best enjoyed with a nice cup of chai.
