Beeriety is on Hiatus
As of today Beeriety is going on indefinite hiatus. Since we began the site in 2008 we've had a lot of fun and learned a lot about beer, but it's time for the team to take a break and work on some other projects.
Thanks to everyone who has kept up with us over the years. It's been a real pleasure.
Cheers,
The Beeriety Team
The Great American Beer Festival 2011
Our Denver correspondent Sydney lists six of her favorite brews from this year's festivities.
Beermo: The Mustache for your Beer Bottle
While I'm as unhappy about the recession as anyone else, I'm glad to see some states' more archaic alcohol laws relaxed.
Urkontinent: The Dogfish Head and Google collaboration beer.
Beer of the Week: Sam Adams Octoberfest
This week we help ring in the autumn season with perhaps the most popular Oktoberfest beer from an American brewery.
Beer’s black market
Neat look at the 'black market' of reselling limited release and rare beers online.
The always-whimsical Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project mixed things up this past weekend at Somerville, MA's annual Fluff Fest, where they provided marshmallow fluff beer toppings in one of two flavors: malted or dry-hopped. The Fluffelmousse was apparently a big hit and serves as just another example of how fun and creative the PT crew can be!
Hi, I just got a home brew kit with glass carboy and plastic bottling bucket. I am incredibly worried about sanitation! Is it safe to use tap water to rinse my equipment, and is tap water safe to use in the wort? I live in San Francisco, so our water is pretty clean and we drink it straight from tap.
American tap water is generally speaking fine to use in your homebrew. The only thing you really need to worry about is if it has any off flavors or smells to it, from chlorine etc., because your homebrew will have those too. If you're concerned about it you can always filter your water, or just buy some from the store.
Sanitation is important but as long as you use whatever sanitizer you got from the brew store as directed you should be fine. If you have any questions you can always consult John Palmer's excellent "How To Brew" which is free online.
Most importantly don't forget the cardinal rule, coined by the father of modern homebrewing, Charlie Papazian: "Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew."

Beer of the Week: Yuengling Traditional Lager
This week we take a look at America's oldest brewery - Yuengling - and their flagship Lager.
Oktoberfest 2011
Oktoberfest began last Saturday in Munich. Click through for some photos from the festivities.
What are some of the more sustainably brewed craft beers?
Thanks for the question. There are a bunch of great breweries that have taken steps to make their operations more environmentally friendly. Check out our article on the topic here and our guide to making your own & drinking more eco-friendly here.
