Summary: The Hanks experience being sore for the first time, but lucky for them you're there to help!
Warnings: None! Just some silly fluff.
No use of Y/N and they/them pronouns for reader.
Hope you enjoy! Don't forget to reblog and comment if you did.
There was a lot that the Hanks had to learn when you realized them. Being human is very different from being an object. And that comes with a lot of new sensations that the Hanks have never experienced before during their life as hangers.
The sound of the front door to your (and now the Hanks) house was accompanied by loud groaning and complaining. Which is not the usual noise accompanying it. You've gotten used to the sounds of your five boyfriends excitedly talking about their adventures when they came home, and this was almost the exact opposite.
Getting up off your bed and walking down the stairs you are greeted by the sight of your five boyfriends taking their shoes off after entering the house. They are all wearing mixed expressions of pain. Your chest tightens in worry as you rush a bit to get closer to them, socked feet slipping a bit on the hardwood floors.
"Hey guys!" You call out. You're in return given several tired "hey bro-babe" and "hey house-homie"s, most of them not looking up from their shoes.
You frown more, reaching out to gently place a hand on H2nk's shoulder, he happened to be the closest, before asking them, "what's wrong? Did you guys get hurt?" You look around at all of them, eyes catching on H5nk as he's the first one to finish taking off his shoes.
A few of them shrug their shoulders at you. Eventually, with some of your help and several concerning winces, they all get their shoes off and proceed to stare at you like a group of lost puppies.
"Okay, well it seems like you guys were hurt," you briefly pause to sigh, running a hand through your hair, "let's go lay down on the bed and you guys can tell me what's going on." They all perk up a bit with smiles at this plan and follow you up the stairs. There's more winces and groans of pain on the way.
You're the first to lay down in bed, patting beside you and opening your arms to snuggle up. H3nk eagerly climbs onto the bed and subsequently you, laying his head on your chest, he's quickly followed by H1nk snuggling up against your right side and H5nk taking the left. The other two soon join in adding to the cuddle pile. Once everyone is settled and comfortable you ask them to tell you what happened.
There's a moment of pause before H1nk speaks up, "honestly we're not sure what happened. We went mountain climbing, it was totally gnarly," there's some soft noises of agreement from the other Hanks, "and once we had our fill we left. But then as H5nk starts driving us all home our bodies started hurting!"
"Yeah! Every time I shifted how I was sitting my legs and stuff would start mad hurting!" H4nk pipes up, pouting from behind Hank 1's shoulder.
"My arms hurt every time I moved the steering wheel, it was high-key distracting bro-babe!"
The other three tell similar anecdotes of their own. You quickly realize what your poor partners are experiencing and it makes you want to hold them impossibly closer. Hank 3, 1, and 5 get kisses to the top of their heads before you speak.
"It sounds like you guys are experiencing sore muscles for the first time."
H4nk lifts his head up from where he was resting and tilts it, looking like an adorably confused golden retriever, "what's that bro-babe?" You smile, resisting the urge to pinch his cheeks and pepper his face in kisses.
"So when humans push their muscles really far, and especially without breaks, then they kinda get hurt and so you have to rest them for a while and stretch them out. And it sounds to me like you guys did that when you went out today." You run your fingers through H3nk's hair, gently scratching your nails across his scalp as you explain what they're experiencing. The ginger completely melts under your touch, practically purring.
A look of realization dawns on all of them (except H3nk who's too busy almost falling asleep on top of you). The five of them snuggle in closer to you and one another, a few of them wincing from having to use their sore muscles.
"So what you're saying is we get a free pass for a day of cuddles?" H2nk asks with a shy but cheeky smile. You giggle a bit at this but nod your head anyway.
"You guys always have a free cuddle day pass, but now you have an extra one I guess," you giggle once more, the Hanks joining you. Well, except for your sleeping ginger.
Raising an eyebrow in confusion you look down to find H3nk's eyes closed in sleep. A fond smile graces your lips. Then you lean down to press a kiss to the top of his head before returning to laying your head down on the pillow.
You spend the next few hours cuddled up in bed with your boyfriends and napping. Occasionally someone will shift with a wince. But it's mostly uninterrupted until you naturally wake up at about dinner time.
You slowly sit up in bed, much to H3nk's complaint. Chuckling softly you pet his head to placate his whining, this makes the redhead open his eyes and smile up at you. He pulls you closer, nuzzling into your stomach. You giggle softly at this, which causes some of the others to wake up, and soon all of your boyfriends are looking up at you lovingly.
It almost overwhelms you at first. Just pure unadulterated love sent straight at you, but you manage to collect your scattered brain enough to form a coherent sentence.
"Morning sleepyheads, I was just about to order some pizza for dinner. Does that sound good?"
H4nk shoots up from where he was laying down. He winces a little bit it doesn't stop his excitement about pizza.
"Yes! Can we get the special one and the wings?" The blonde asks, practically buzzing. You giggle at his reaction and nod your head, leaning over to grab your phone from off the night stand to the left of the bed.
"Of course bubba, does anybody else want something specific?" You ask as you begin your online order. Hank 2 and 5 make pizza requests and soon you are placing your order for delivery.
With a soft sigh you set your phone back down on the night stand, looking down at the pile of himbos surrounding you. You smile and slowly shimmy yourself back to lying down. H3nk lays his head back onto your chest with a very serious and final 'humph' sound, making everyone giggle or snort. You return one hand to his hair and join the other with H5nk's.
H4nk lays down and snuggles up to H1nk's back once more, making sure to move slowly so its less painful. The darker skinned man turns his head to press a kiss to the blondes temple.
"Bro no fair I want kisses," H5nk mumbles with an exaggerated pout. H1nk pulls away from kissing H4nk with a laugh, turning to face the brunette. H1nk reaches over and gives H5nk a kiss. You smile as you watch two of your boyfriends share gentle affection for one another, sinking further into the comfortable bed.
About 30 minutes later the pizza and sides arrive. H2nk is the one who answers the door, making sure to give the driver an appropriate tip, another thing the Hanks had to learn, before bringing the the many boxes into the living room where the rest of you sat.
H4nk pops up in excitement and runs over to H2nk, helping him carry the boxes. It is clear, however, that he does it to purely get his pizza and wings early. The food is soon passed around, plates doled out between the six of you so that you are able to share the food.
Food is eaten as conversation flows easily. Soon the delivered boxes are empty and thrown in the trash and plates are rinsed in the sink. The six of you make your way back up the stairs.
With some help from you and one another the Hanks change into their usual bed time attire with you soon following suit. Hanks 1, 3, and 4 simply stick to underwear, they tend to run the most hot, while 5 wears pajama pants and no shirt and 2 wears some sleep shorts and a t-shirt.
"I call dibs on laying on bro-babe!" H4nk calls out as you sit on the bed, which is followed by him nearly tackling you into laying down and cuddling on you. H3nk pouts but quickly cuddles up to your right side, giving you a kiss on the cheek. The other three soon piling on, laughing at the blonds antics.
You find yourself back in the center of the cuddle pile, as with their muscles still being sore the Hanks would rather not be laid on. But the arrangement is a bit different. With H4nk now the one laying on top of you, 2 curled up on your left side with 1 spooning him, and 3 curled up on your right with 5 spooning him.
Wrapped up in love and comfort the six of you fall asleep. The light chatter and usual noise dying down as you all drift off one after the other, dreaming of more adrenaline filled adventures and muscle soreness being long gone.
Thank you for reading! Some parts of this I'm not super happy with but I like it! Once again if you enjoyed please reblog and/or comment!
Before meeting you the Hanks were already together. Sure they're bros, but they're bros in love! And now you are included in that love!
They are all very cuddly/touchy people, but in different ways. And of course they all also have their own unique way of showing their love outside of physical affection.
Pre-realization most of your time spent with the Hanks is either joining them in their adrenaline pumping adventures or watching and cheering them on from the side lines. This is then followed by either piling onto your bed or couches and spending the evening cooling down. Ending the night with dinner, cuddling up in bed, and making sure everyone gets a kiss from everyone before falling asleep.
Post-realization is a bit more varied, as many of them now have jobs that require them to leave the house for hours on end. But everyone is always home for dinner, so its always a special time in the day. Whenever someone returns home they are practically jumped on with hugs and kisses by whoever was already home. When everyone has the day off its either spent by doing a totally gnarly adventure or a chill movie and gaming day if the week has been particularly rough.
-Hank 1-
His main love language outside of physical touch is gift giving! Ever since he started learning the many skills that are needed to create parachutes for dogs he's been making all the other Hanks + you gifts. All handcrafted with love and deep thought. But even before realization he would do his best to find or make little gifts to give out.
When cuddling in bed Hank 1 usually snuggled up against the left side of whoever is in the center or in the center himself. Cuddling in the living room he loves having someone sitting in his lap on the loveseat. Hank 1s favorite place to kiss someone is either their shoulder or the top of their head, especially when he's hugging them from behind. But he loves to be kissed on the cheek.
Hank 1s go to pet names are baby/babe, love, and honey. He loves to be called things like 'sweet boy' or 'lover boy'.
His favorite one on one activity is going out to all you can eat restaurants and walking through open spaces. For group activities he loves going on hikes to places where you can jump off cliffs into water.
-Hank 2-
His love language is words of affirmation. Of course being the bit of a worry wort that he is Hank 2 loved to be reassured verbally, but he also happily returns this. And now that hes started writing his even better, with more fancy words in his arsenal Hank 2 has become the master of making everyone feel loved and appreciated through words.
Hank 2 loves to lay on top of someone when cuddling or pressed up against the persons side with his face buried in their shoulder, he also loves to be spooned. When cuddled up in the living room he likes laying across peoples laps who are sitting on the couch. His favorite places to kiss you and the other Hanks is on the hand (followed by kissing his way up your arm) and on the temple. Hank 2s favorite place to be kissed is on his head and temple, he will blush a lot if you do it.
His preferred pet names for his partners are my love, love, sweet thing, my dear, and lovebug. He in return loves being called baby and sweetheart.
Hank 2s favorite places to go for a one on one activity are museums (especially ones with hands on activities) and dance clubs/events. His favorite group activities are going ziplinning and going out to eat.
-Hank 3-
His love language is absolutely mainly physical touch! He's a very affectionate guy, always giving out kissing and touching at least one of you if not multiple of your group at all times. But he does also love words of affirmation. Even though most of them are silly, flirty one liners there is truth in them, he does find you and the other Hanks incredibly attractive, and this is just his silly way of showing it! But he will absolutely crumble if you flirt or compliment him in return. You and the other Hanks often use this "against" him when he's had a long or tough day and needs to relax.
When cuddling in bed Hank 3 loves to either be in the center or on the right side, either cuddling the person in the middle or the person cuddling the person in the middle. When cuddling in the living room Hank loves to sit in someone's lap, face nuzzled into their shoulder, or with his head in someone's lap. He absolutely lives for having his scalp gently scratched! His favorite place to kiss is (predictably) on the lips but also the neck, and its not always in a sexual way, he just likes the closeness of it. His favorite places to be kissed is on the lips, nose, top of the head.
Hank 3 loves to call his partners things like gorgeous, handsome, or pretty, but also loves the classic babe and sweetheart. He is an absolute sucker for being called good boy, but he also liked being called honey and baby/babe.
His favorite one on one activities are cuddling on the couch while watching TV or playing video games and going on walks, through parks or cities (and sex). His favorite group activities are hang-gliding and concerts/music festivals (and sex).
-Hank 4-
He is the second cuddliest after Hank 3 but he also really loves spending quality time! He will happily spend time with you and the other Hanks doing nothing or doing your own things but next to each other (usually cuddling). Hank 4 is more than happy to simply just exist in the same space as his partners, especially if it includes cuddles and a nap!
While cuddling in bed Hank 4 loves to lay on top of people or cuddle into the person in the center and the person on top of them. He's like a Koala when cuddling, just fully latched on to whoever he can, good luck getting out of bed if you're in his grasp. When cuddling in the living room he first of all loves to lay on the floor, but he loves to spoon and be spooned. Also like Hank 3 he likes your hands in his hair, but he more likes when you play with it, he'll even encourage you and the others to braid his hair. His favorite place to kiss his lovers is on the cheek, nose, and jaw. Hank 4s favorite place to be kissed is on his forehead, nose, and hands.
Hank 4 likes to call his partners baby/babe, lovebug, cuddlebug, honey, and babygirl/boy/doll. He loves to be called baby boy, bubba, and sweetie/sweet thing.
His favorite one on one activities are taking naps together, playing video games, and going out to eat. His favorite group activities are surfing, swimming, and going shopping.
-Hank 5-
His main love language aside from physical touch is acts of service. He loves to help with chores around the house, but also really loves doing them with someone else. Hank 5 will absolutely melt if you do something he's been meaning to get to but has been to busy to and surprise him with. But be warned that he will return the favor!
Cuddling in bed, Hank 5 can most often be found spooning someone or being spooned, he just likes that type of being held/holding someone. He will also happily lay in the center with someone on top of him. In the living room he likes cuddling into someone's side, especially under a blanket, and having someone cuddle into his chest. Hank 5 loves to kiss his partners temples, lips, shoulders, and inner wrists. In return he loves to be kissed on the neck, jaw, and cheeks.
Hank 5 calls his partners very romantic and domestic names, sweetheart, my love, sweetie, honey, dear, and darling. He likes to be called baby, lovebug, love, and babe (and daddy).
His favorite one on one activities are making lunch or dinner and making art or crafts. His favorite group activities are rock climbing, playing sports, and going grocery shopping.
Hope y'all enjoy! Things are getting flirty ;). Don't forget to like, comment, and reblog if you enjoyed!
You had just grabbed your lunch from the kitchen and were heading back to your classroom when Logan and Ororo approached you, a concerned look on both their faces. Loganâs brows were pinched together, his frown lines a bit more prominent given he was frowning. Ororoâs face was less pinched, but no less concerned.
Ororo is the first to speak, âhave you seen Rogue today? Or recently?â You tilt your head slightly to the side as you replay your day in your head, trying to think if you had seen the girl. You shake your head when you come up with nothing.Â
Loganâs frown instantly deepens and Ororos eyebrows furrow.
âWhy? What's going on?â You ask, voice laced with concern, noticing their shift in demeanor from worried to distressed.
Logan sighs, dragging a hand over his face before telling you the problem.
âRogues missing, it seems no one has seen her since lunch time. The last time someone saw her she was talking to a kid her age and she looked upset. I think she ran away because of what someone said about last night.âÂ
Your heart drops and your eyes widen at the realization, âthen why are we standing here?! We need to tell Charles right now!â Ororo looks a little embarrassed, seeing that she probably should have told Charles as soon as Logan told her.
âYouâre right, I guess we were just hopeful she hadn't run off,â Ororo says as she leads the two of you in the direction of Charles's office.Â
When the three of you frantically tumble through the door to Charles' office, he is already wheeled in front of his desk. You step back from the door, letting him through and following behind him.
âI apologize for tapping into your minds, but your concern for Rogue was hard to block out. I have informed Jean and Scott of the present situation and they will be meeting us in Cerebro.â Logan and Ororo follow you and Charles. The two of them catch up to walk by your side, you give both of them a reassuring smile that's as much for them as it is for you.
When the group of you reach the elevators Jean and Scott catch up with you, joining you in the ride down to the basement where Cerebro is held. The ride down in quiet, all of you quietly worrying to yourself about what Rogue is doing and where she is.Â
Reaching Cerebro you assist Charles in setting it up. Using your powers you turn the complex device on then turning to help place the helmet correctly on his head, making sure the sensor touches his forehead. Once everything is ready you step away, letting him concentrate.Â
The screens all along the walls flash to life, displaying the familiar glowing silhouettes of mutants across the world. You look at Logan to see his reaction, smiling at his barely hidden expression of awe at the capabilities of Charles and Cerebro .Â
After a few seconds the screens focus on Rogue. They show her walking down the street towards the nearby train station.
Charles removes the headset, setting it down. You turn off the machine with a simple brush of your fingers walking with him to the rest of the X-men.
You all look at each other for a minute, deciding what to say. You're the first to speak up.
âWe need to go after her, if we don't either the brotherhood or mutant hating humans will find her.â Logan makes a noise of agreement, crossing his arms.
âWhile I do agree, we need to prepare first, and I want you to stay here Logan. This is most likely a trap in order to capture you and we can't give them that,â Charles comments. It's not quite a command, but his tone doesn't leave much room to argue.
Logan argues anyway, saying that he's not going to let himself get captured and that you all need his help. Charles holds his hand up and Logan closes his mouth.
âI understand your concern but you need to stay behind. I do not know what they plan to do with you, but we must not let it happen, and they are capable. The X-Men will be perfectly fine handling this mission.â Logan looks like he wants to argue, but he instead just huffs and walks away.
Scott scoffs at Logan's behavior and you push his shoulder in retaliation, and follow after Logan.
Itâs about an hour later and you are walking toward the garage, pulling on your conductive gloves as you head to prepare the car for the train station. As you pass by the entrance you also pass Logan. You catch him as heâs about to exit the front entrance's door, calling his name to which he turns and looks at you.
âWhere are you going?â You question, your left hand coming to rest on your hip.Â
Logan looks almost sheepish for a moment, maybe even a little guilty, but itâs quickly covered by his scowl.
âIâm going to do what needs to be done, I'm going to save her.â You sigh, knowing thatâs what he was planning. You walk over to him, setting a hand on his shoulder, matching his expression.
âI agree, but you canât go alone, itâs not safe. At least let me go with you, Iâll watch your back.â Logan huffs, looking at your face for a moment. He seemingly finds what heâs looking for and nods. You smile in response and release his shoulder.
Walking away you lead Logan to the garage, turning on the many overhead lights. There are several cars parked in the garage, an SUV that is able to fit all the X-men, a sports car, a large truck along with others, and a lone motorcycle. You gesture out with your hand, non-verbally telling Logan to pick what to ride.Â
He immediately walks over to the motorcycle and you resist the urge to laugh. Predictable. You grab the helmets from off the wall, telling Scott you were sorry in your head and promising to return it safe, even though he couldnât hear it.Â
Putting the helmet on, you hand Logan the other. To which he gives you an incredulous look that makes you blush and laugh a little. You set the helmet back where it was before touching the vehicle, making it hum to life in an instant. Logan gets onto the motorcycle with ease. You follow much less confidently, wrapping your arms around his waist, holding yourself close to him.
Logan flips up the kick stand, walking the vehicle a bit as you open the garage door with your powers, before taking off. Youâre thankful he canât see your blushing face from this position as you ride away from the mansion.Â
A little bit of nervousness creeps up as you pass the estates gates. You had never ridden on a motorcycle before and it was now hitting you how fast it is. Your hold on Logan tightens, pulling yourself closer to him and resting your face against his shoulder.Â
In your hold you feel Logan start to shake with a chuckle.
âIf you hold me any tighter youâre gonna rip me in half there sweetheart,â Logan teases, turning his head just a touch to the side to see your face.Â
A blush immediately rises to your cheeks. Butterflies begin swirling around in your chest as you hide your face from him further behind his back.Â
But the reality that you're heading out to save someone hits you in the face with a cold rush of air, getting rid of the butterflies as quick as they came. You can tell Logan feels this too as he goes silent. After a few minutes of silent riding you squeeze Logan in a sort of pseudo hug.
âWeâll find her. Weâll bring her home,â you say more to yourself than him.Â
The two of you arrive at the station within 15 minutes, parking the car a bit hastily in front of it. You and Logan enter the building, looking around the lobby. After just a few seconds you both come to the realization that she is not here and youâre going to have to split up to find her.Â
You turn to look at Logan and he nods. He turns and pushes through the crowd, heading toward the left end of the station. You head the opposite direction, albeit with more struggle.Â
You spend several minutes walking around the station in a rushed manner, looking side to side in an attempt to find Rogue as fast as you can. Your phone buzzes in your pocket against the side of your leg.Â
With a small sigh you pull it out of your pocket, looking at the screen to see an incoming call from Scott and several messages from Ororo. You feel a little bad as you turn your phone off and put it back.Â
Just as you finish returning your phone to its place you hear commotion from one of the nearby trains. Itâs hard to hear anything distinct but you have the inkling itâs Logan and Rogue. You run there as fast as you're able to through the crowded station, finding the two of them and Magneto having a standoff. Erik is holding Logan up with an outstretched hand, slowly pulling his arms in opposite directions. The moment you see them you send a bolt of electricity Magnetos' way. It hits him, but you fired it from too far away so most of the energy had dissipated. While it may not hurt him, it does drag his attention from Logan and to you.Â
Magneto glowers at you as you give him a smirk, charging up another bolt of electricity in your hands as you continue your charge toward them. But just before you fire it off Magneto pulls Logan in front of him. Using the man as a meat shield. You nearly skid to a stop as you absorb the energy back into your body then continue your race into the train.Â
Just as you step on and in you hear Rogue agreeing to leave with him, under the condition that he leaves Logan and you alone. You want to shout, to stop them, but Magneto is already guiding her out of the bus. You send out one more spark of energy as a last ditch effort but it doesnât do much.Â
Once Magneto has left the scene, Logan is released from his suspended position, dropping down onto his knees. As soon as he makes contact with the train floor you rush over to his side, checking for any injuries before you help him back to his feet.Â
The two of you share a look, Loganâs far more angry than your concerned one and once youâre sure Logan has his footing, the two of you book it to the entrance of the station where you hear the sounds of a conflict between what you can only guess is your fellow X-Men and The Brotherhood.Â
Through the large windows and glass doors you can see Magneto, Rogue, and some other mutants you donât quite recognize surrounded by police force. It takes all your willpower to not burst through the doors to attack him. Logan seems to do the same. But that doesnât prevent you from using your powers to hear the conversation happening outside.Â
As soon as you tap into one of the police officerâs many walkie talkieâs you can tell that Charles is speaking through one of the mutants to Erik. After a few tense moments, Magneto and his Brotherhood depart and the police force soon follow.Â
You and Logan exit the building, meeting with the others in front of the black car Charles is sitting in. Upon your arrival you straightaway can tell that Scott is not happy with you.
You give him a sheepish smile as he asks, âAnd what happened to the two of you?â Logan gruffly and with many simplifications tells him about your encounter with Erik and how he took Rogue. Scott is ready to scold the two of you but Charles raises a hand to stop him.
âDo not give them too much grief Scott, I am the one who made the biggest mistake. I apologize to you all, I guessed his motives wrong.â
âYou shouldnât blame yourself either. None of us could have accurately predicted what Magneto's plan was we just have to make up for it by rescuing Rogue,â you counter, resting a hand on his shoulder. Charles places his hand atop yours, giving you his signature fatherly smile.Â
Everyone begins to pile into the car to go home. Logan goes to where he had parked the motorcycle and you begin to follow him, but you turn around when you hear Charles sigh wistfully. Heâs staring at where Erik was and you know what heâs going to say before he even says it.Â
âIt pains me to see him like this. Heâs reverting to the comfort of his anger, letting himself fall back on old habits. If he would just let me in, let us help him, he wouldnât have to be so angry, he could come back home.â You stay quiet, simply listening to Charlesâ woes. Squeezing his shoulder in comfort you give him a hum of agreement, then join Logan atop the motorcycle.
The ride back to the mansion is quiet, you're too busy stewing in your feelings to muster up a conversation with Logan. Youâre pissed at yourself, for not getting there earlier. For not being able to do anything to Magneto. For not being able to save Rogue. Your frustration manifests itself in electricity crackling across your skin. It zaps and flashes, releasing the built up energy you had stored. By result, your untapped electricity zapped across Loganâs jacket and flesh.Â
Logan flinches at the stings that are gone as soon as they happen. You, however, donât notice this, simply thinking he's shifting to get comfortable on the motorcycle. He tilts his head to the side, about to ask you about it, but upon seeing your face scrunched up in thought he decides to leave it be for now.Â
You only realize your slipped control of your mutation when you are inside the X-mansion. Your eyes wander to the burned holes in Loganâs leather jacket, gasping when you realize they were caused by you.Â
âOh god Logan I am so sorry, I didnât even realize what I was doing or that my powers were out of control. Iâll help clean and patch you up and I promise I will buy you a new jacket-â Logan stops your fountain of apologies by wrapping his hands around your hand. Butterflies bloom in your stomach as you stare wide eyed at him.
He takes off one of the sleeves, showing his arm to you, whereupon inspection, you realize there are no wounds or even a hint of a scar from your powers. You sigh in relief, meeting Loganâs eyes.Â
âDonât worry âbout it bub, this jacket was getting old and worn anyway. I was wearing it till it gave me a reason not to. You took care of that,â he gave you a smirk before continuing, âbesides, didnâ even hurt that much. Just like a little pinch,â he lightly teases, making you smile.Â
You laugh and shake your head, pushing his shoulder with your free hand. A blush rises to your cheeks and the butterflies intensify under Loganâs carefree gaze, flustering you immensely.Â
âOkay,â you pause, âbut at least let me buy you a new one to make it up.â Logan laughs and shakes his head, giving your hand a squeeze. You squeeze it in return as he tells you, âIâll let you know if I ever need a new one.â You laugh with him, fingers faintly glowing.
The two of you look at one another for a long moment, not saying anything, simply enjoying the sensation of holding each otherâs hand. Warmths blooms in you. It starts where Logan's hand meets yours, through your arm, and into your chest.Â
But the quiet moment is shattered by Jeanâs footsteps into the foyer. You turn your head just as she spots the two of you, a noise of surprise bubbling up from the back of her throat. Loganâs head snaps to join yours in looking at Jean.Â
Your eyes widen as you release Logan's hand, taking a step away from him. A blush burns fiercely across your face. Accompanying your blushing is energy rushing in your veins, making the fine arteries and capillaries in your face and hands faintly glow.Â
âAh! Sorry I didnât know anyone was still up and about,â Jean apologizes as she steps out of the foyer and down the hall to her room.
You and Logan stare at each other for an awkwardly quiet moment before a giggle bubbles its way up and out of you. Logan gives you a confused look and it only makes you laugh harder. Soon he joins your laughter with a chuckle of your own.
It takes a minute for your laughing to calm down, both of you catching your breath. You hesitate for just a second before grabbing Loganâs hand once more, giving it a gentle squeeze as you look at him with a smile.
âI'll see you tomorrow. Get some sleep Logan.âÂ
âYeah, you too,â Logan replies in a dulcet tone. The two of you look at one another for a moment longer, several words left sitting on the tip of your tongue, waiting to be said. Even though everything in you doesnât want to, you pull away from Logan, walking to your room and giving him a little wave before you turn the corner.Â
A few minutes after you walk inside of your room you hear the opening and closing of Logan's door. A smile flashes across your face. You quickly finish your nightly routine before sliding into your bed and falling asleep for the night.Â
The next day you head down the long hallways to the kitchen. The X-Men usually had breakfast together and today was no different as you walked into the room to the sight of your friends gathered around the table eating various breakfast foods.Â
âMorning!â You say as you grab a plate and grab the foods you want on it. A chorus of âgood morningâs are told to you in varying states of awake, and mood on being awake.Â
Plate loaded with food, you sit down in your chair. Like a college lecture hall no one had assigned seats, but you all still had your preferred spots at the table. However, curiously Jean sits next to you. Something she normally doesnât do, instead preferring to sit next to Scott and Hank in the mornings. Ororo sits next to you like normal. But the two of them move their chairs to sit even closer to you, almost trapping you between the two of them.Â
You sit awkwardly between the two women, glancing back and forth between them as you cautiously nibble your breakfast. After a few grueling seconds that feel like minutes, Ororo speaks.
âSoooo,â the white haired woman starts, dragging out the âoâ sound, âJean told me that she saw something last night,â the redhead simply nods in agreement, a teasing smile on her lips.Â
âWanna tell us why you and Logan were holding hands?â Ororo matches Jeanâs smile with one of her own. Your head tilts to the side in confusion. But then it clicks and heat rises to your cheeks flushing them a soft pink.Â
âI- uh that's- um well- ah uh you see um-â You sputter, trying to find an explanation for them. As if some cruel, ironic joke from the universe, Logan chooses to walk into the kitchen at that very moment. You donât even look to see because you can feel Ororo and Jean smirking at you, but before they can say anything you give both of them little shocks and hard stares.Â
The two of them stifle their giggles as Logan sits down across the table from you. You give him a smile that he returns. During Jean and Ororoâs teasing, you had not only blushed but began to glow as well, you however had it under control by the time Logan had sat down. You think he doesnât notice, based on his lack of reaction. But Logan does, just the very end of it, to which he chalks up to your friends making you laugh.
Logan starts eating the moment he sits down, which reminds you of your own food. As you resume munching on your breakfast Jean and Ororo resume talking to you, though no longer about Logan but about a movie that had recently come out that you all had seen together as a group.Â
All conversation at the table is halted when Scott clears his throat. Every head turns to face him, waiting for him to say whatever he has to say.
âWe need to discuss what happened yesterday with Rogue at the train station. We couldn't have predicted what he wanted but you were out of line Logan. You could have gotten yourself, Rogue, or the rest of us killed with your recklessness. Next time you need to listen to what the professor and the rest of us decide on.â
From the corner of your eye you can see Logan's eyes practically roll to the back of his skull in annoyance. You have to bite your lip to stop yourself from giggling.Â
âOh yeah? And if you guys had gone at the time you decided then you wouldn't even have had a chance to look at Rogue before he got to her. At least me and Y/N got to try and get to her!â Logan retaliates, gesturing at Scott with his knife.Â
âYou don't know that, for all you know you being there early could have triggered Magneto to go after her sooner!â Scott is now standing, the tension in the room rose with him.Â
âHey! He was just trying to save her, Logan was not planning on putting us in danger and I made sure of that! All he wanted to do was help her,â I interject.
âOh don't you even start Y/N! You know better, you should have stopped him, not babysat.â Your veins begin to glow from the frustration, small sparks of energy crackling across your skin.
âFuck off Scott we're both full grown adults we knew what our decision meant,â Logan butts in.
âBut Scott makes a point, the two of you should have followed instruction instead of leaving or at the very least asked the rest of us to come with you like the team we are supposed to be! Something could have happened and we wouldnât have made it in time, but you could be nicer about it Scott,â Jean adds, trying to calm the situation.
At this point Logan is standing, him and Scott glaring at one another. Just as Logan opens his mouth everyone at the table receives a telepathic message from Charles.
âArguing wonât solve anything, stop it and enjoy your breakfast.â Logan grumbles and the two of them sit down, everyone quietly returning to eating their food.Â
The moment you finish you stand and declare that youâre taking care of dishes. Even though you stood by your decision to go with Logan, you felt bad for making the others worry and undermining Scott and Charles, so this was your way of non-verbally apologizing. Logan joins your side. You assume it's for the same reason you are.Â
The two of you settle into a rhythm, you cleaning and washing the dishes and Logan drying them and putting them away. Everything is quiet, until you get the grand idea to tease Logan.
âYou really let Scott get to you huh?â You say with a sly smile, looking at him from your periphery. Logan lets out a huff followed by a quiet chuckle.
âYouâre one to talk, I saw ya glowinâ earlier, Jean say somethinâ real funny?â He counters. Your face flushes and you stumble around an explanation but before you can get a word Logan presses a finger to your lips, shushing you effectively with a smirk.Â
Butterflies take flight in your chest at the proximity. But by some miracle you manage to keep your powers controlled and your veins unilluminated. You roll your eyes and give Logan a gentle shove, returning to the dishes.Â
When the dishes are washed, put away, and your hands are dried you turn to one another.Â
âWanna get out of here?â Logan asks with a roguish smile. You tilt your head to the side, raising your eyebrow in questioning but return the smile nonetheless.Â
âAnd where exactly would we go?â
Logan shrugs his shoulders, walking toward the garage, âwherever we wanna go, sweetheart.â
You roll your eyes at the nickname, ignoring the butterflies it gives you. âAnd how are we going to get there? âCause Iâm not letting you steal Scottâs motorcycle again. We donât need him to be more upset.â You cross your arms over your chest.
Logan smiles and gives you a nod, âWasnât planninâ on it, weâre taking a car.â You return the smile and start walking towards the garage, Logan following after a few seconds.
When you reach the garage Logan wastes no time in picking the large truck. You shake your head and chuckle at his stereotypical choice, but you join him anyway in the passenger seat. Once your seatbelt is on he pulls out of the garage, heading down the gravel paved road of the institute.Â
Hours later the two of you return in the afternoon. You and Logan are laughing as you enter through the garage door into the main hall, youâre leaning against his side as you laugh, almost using him to steady you. But Logan doesnât seem to mind as he all but leans on you in return.Â
Your laughter calms down and the two of you stand there for a moment, simply enjoying the lingering euphoria and close proximity. But upon looking at a clock you realize you have to part. You let out a soft sigh and step away from Logan, immediately missing the steady warmth of his body.Â
âIâve gotta go, I wish we could talk for longer but, I have school lessons to plan and then lab work with Jean. But Iâll see you tomorrow,â you say with a smile. Logan nods and gives you a smile in return.
âGuess I canât always have you all to myself,â he jokes, making you blush a bit, âbut yeah, see you tomorrow.â You give a small laugh at the joke, gently punching Loganâs shoulder. You have an intense urge to kiss him, but you quell it by biting your lip and walking away to your room with a little wave.Â
Once out of his line of sight you let out a small breath. You regain your composure and continue to your room to write your lesson plans for the next day.
Here's the second chapter! I forgot to mention this in the previous one but all the chapter names are from songs! So feel free to listen to them while you read.
It's only about an hour or two later when you see Logan again. Charles had decided that he still wanted the scan performed on Logan and assigned you to the job as Jean was âbusyâ doing something with Scott. So you travel back to the dorms and knock on Logan's door. You hear some shuffling before the knob twists before the door is pulled back, revealing a properly dressed Logan. Heâs dressed in a plain white T-shirt and blue jeans.Â
His face is scrunched up in what looks like annoyance for a moment though it quickly melts back into the teasing smirk he has been giving you thus far.
âCouldnât wait to see me again, could you sweetheart?â Logan teases. He crosses his arms and leans against the wooden doorframe, almost mimicking how you had earlier in Charles's office.Â
You huff at his insinuation. Standing back from the door, you roll your eyes before correcting him. Because while, yes, he looks good shirtless, you do have a job.
âSorry, big boy, but I'm here for a more scientific reason. Charles wants me to run that test we were going to do before you woke up. Walk with me. I'll explain the process on the way.â You turn, not glancing at Logan as you walk towards the elevator. Only once inside do you look at him.Â
Logan did, in fact, follow you to the lift; slipping inside next to you. He's standing much closer than necessary, making heat tingle across your skin. You shove the feeling down to get control of your powers, preventing your veins from starting to glow.Â
When the door closes, you start telling Logan the process and reason for the test you will run on him.
âOn your side of things, it will be easy; all you have to do is lie down on a bed in a machine. It's like an X-ray and MRI all in one but attuned specifically to mutants and their abilities. We use it to see exactly what a mutant's abilities are, how it affects their body, and if they have any injuries we can't see on the outside.âÂ
You glance at Logan to see if he's listening. And to your pleasant surprise, he seems to be actually taking in the information you are giving him. A smile creeps up on your face at the sight. You wouldnât expect anyone to pay attention, and you wouldnât blame them for it either. But there he was, listening to your every word as you explained a complex machine's purpose.
When you reach the mansion's basement level, the elevator dings, and the doors open with a quiet mechanical noise. You lead Logan out into the hallway. After about a minute of walking you reach the infirmary doors. Once again, your hand is pressed against the sensor and the metal doors slide open.Â
âGive me a minute to put my stuff on and then we can get started,â you tell Logan as you pull your lab coat on for the second time in the day. âActually, could you take off your shirt? Itâll make putting the sensors on easier for me.â You donât even realize the possible implications of your statement till youâre finished putting on your gloves and you see Logan's smirk.
A blush quickly rises to your cheeks. You scoff at his expression and shove his shoulder.Â
âOh, shut up and get your mind out of the gutter. I didnât mean it in that way.â
Turning on your heel, you quickly walk into the infirmary proper, hoping to hide your embarrassment with distance. You can hear Logan chuckle from behind as he follows you. Once sensors are retrieved from their drawer, you instruct him on which bed he must lie on.Â
Once he is reclined, you begin placing the sensors. They are clear sticky circles with minor metal attachment points. You put them on his shoulders, upper arms, forearms, temples, pecs, and abdomen.
As you place the last sensor on his left shoulder Logan shifts on the bed. He leans his head up and to the left, making eye contact with you as his eyebrow raises and a smirk crosses his features.Â
âKnew you jusâ wanted to see me shirtless again,â he teases. Instead of verbally responding, you simply rip off the patch you had just placed, a small smile of satisfaction gracing your features when you see him wince.
âAh yes, Iâm totally doing all of this just to see you without your shirt off when I could instead be relaxing, definitely, for sure,â you quip. Before Logan can retort, you press a button on the outside of the medical device.Â
The bed slowly moves inside the machine, and once the door shuts, you release a quiet sigh and drag a hand over your face. The burning blush on your cheeks is brought to full attention by the nerve sensors in your hand. Of course, he was attractive without a shirt, there was no denying it, but he didnât have to be cocky about it. Logan just couldnât let you enjoy it, could he?
After taking a moment to collect yourself, you set your hand on the casing of the x-ray machine. Then, you use your powers to connect to the machine. You feel the familiar thrum of electricity against your fingertips and crawling through your veins, connecting you to the electrical wiring inside the machine. Youâve done it so often that you barely have to focus on connecting.
What you do next, however, requires more concentration. You close your eyes and focus on the machine's scanner. Your vision is blurry initially, but after a few seconds, you can see Logan from a top-down view.Â
Ignoring the heat that returns to your skin, you switch the view to X-ray. To your surprise, Logan's skeleton is either made of or has metal surrounding it. You canât tell which kind, but the machine will tell you when the full scan is finished.
You pull out of the machine and open your eyes. They are again blurry but clear up in a few seconds, and then you walk over to the infirmary computer.Â
You flick your wrist towards the computer, turning it on with your powers. It prompts you to log in. You type in the code, then start the program for the scanner's results. Even though you have some of the best technology in the country, the two devices always take forever to connect on their own. So, using your mutation, you artificially connect the two.Â
Scott would always scold you whenever he caught you doing it, saying that they âshould only be used for important or dangerous situations.âÂ
Charles would also scold you on occasion. Although, that was for a completely different reason. He wanted to make sure you weren't stunting your neural pathways by doing something the easy way too often. You usually listen to Xavier and give Scott a small shock and a grin.
I mean, why would you purposely wait for minutes when you could make it happen in mere seconds?
A little ding sound notifies you that the machines have successfully connected and that the scan will now be slowly transferred into a file on the desktop. So, you grab your note clipboard and pen from the desk and write down your observations.Â
The full scan and download of files take about 10 minutes. The computer makes a little noise and prompts you to save the file. You click the prompt before walking over to the scanning machine, placing your hand on it again, and using your powers to release Logan.Â
When Logan comes out, his eyes are closed, and his eyebrows are bunched in his seemingly permanent furrow. The little wrinkles between his eyebrows make you want to gently smooth them with your thumb, but you resist the urge and pat his shoulder instead.Â
Logan blinks his eyes open, sitting up on the medical bed. He rolls his neck, creating a few popping noises as he does so.Â
âDid you enjoy your trip?â you jokingly ask, a teasing smile plastered on your face. âI know I enjoyed the peace and quiet.â
Logan rolls his eyes and stands up. He grabs his shirt off the table he had set it on and pulls it over his head. You bite your lip at how his back and shoulder muscles move and quickly look away at the computer.Â
âAs if I even talk that much,â he grumbles. Logan turns to face you, crossing his arms over his chest and raising his eyebrow at you. âLet's see the fancy machine's results. Unless this really was just a long ploy to get me to take my shirt off.âÂ
His light frown turns into a smirk as he teases. It reddens your cheeks with heat, and your veins faintly glow with buzzing energy. You don't give him the pleasure of a response.
Logan follows you over to the computer. You double-click on the file to open it, waiting a few seconds for the full pictures to load. You expect Logan to simply stand by you or even behind you.Â
But instead, both his arms are placed by your sides on the desk. You can feel a whisper of his chest against your back, separated by only the clothes youâre wearing, his arms pressing against yours. Loganâs body is caging you against the desk. And itâs making your entire body flush with heat and butterflies, veins glowing with the energy youâre having difficulty controlling.
So, to distract yourself from the warm body pressed to yours, you focus on the computer. First, you look at the skeleton scan. Using your powers instead of a mouse, you zoom in, closely looking at Logan's skeleton, specifically the three claws between his ulna and radius in each of his arms.
âThat's where your claws slot into your arms, and the scan tells me right here that your skeleton is covered in a metal we call Adamantium,â you inform Logan, pointing at what you are talking about.Â
He hums in acknowledgment. His nods along to the information you tell him are almost teasing, his breath dancing across your neck from the close proximity.
You move on to the muscular scan, but there isnât much it tells you, so you quickly move on to the final scan. Itâs the one that picks up the mutant gene. The one that tells you precisely what someone's powers are.
Youâre just about to begin looking into Logan's power and telling him what you find when the sound of someone clearing their throat breaks the silence first. The two of you whip your head to the sound. You see Scott walking in with his arms crossed.
Even with his glasses on, Scott's face and body language express disappointment and exasperation. He steps closer to the two of you, stopping just a few feet away. You glare at the man. Scott seemingly ignores this in favor of scolding you.
âSorry to interrupt your clearly very important business but Charles wants to know if the scan is complete.â
Logan steps back from you, allowing both of you to turn around and look at Scott fully. You roll your eyes at him.
âYes, Scott, it's done. I was reviewing it with Logan, showing him the capabilities of our machines here. Though if Charles wants them, Iâll head there right now.â
Scott gives you a curt nod, turns to face the doors, and then leaves the infirmary just as fast as he arrives.
You groan and drag a hand over your face. You send one last glare in Scott's direction before turning to Logan.
âSorry about that. You are more than welcome to join me, but I really do need to get those files to Charles.â You touch the computer's console once more. You have to concentrate a bit as you find the correct computer and send the files over.
Logan waves you off with a little smile, âNothing to worry about, Iâll see you later, yeah?â You give him a smile in return and nod.
âYeah, Iâll see you later.â
The two of you exit the room together. Logan patiently waits for you to take off your lab coat before leaving out the second set of doors. The two of you go up the elevator together and separate to different parts of the mansion.
Once you reach the meeting room, you are greeted by the sight of Charles and your fellow X-Men (except for Scott). You scoff internally at the man's audacity to scold you when he doesnât even attend the meeting.Â
Charles smiles his familiar, comforting smile and gestures to the computer in the room. You return the smile, then turn the device on and open the file with your mutation.Â
Much like with Logan earlier, you show the skeleton scan first; explaining that his skeleton has Adamantium grafted on top of it, and his claws hide in the bones of his forearms. You show the following scan once everyone has absorbed the information. Since you had seen before that the muscle scan didnât reveal much, you elect to only show the mutation scan, putting it side by side with the skeleton one.Â
This time, you will not be interrupted by Scott. So you can actually explain your full findings.
âFrom the scan, it appears that Logan has potent regenerative abilities. This allows him to have the claws without causing severe damage and having whatever process to cover his bones in metal not kill him.â
You can tell that everyone in the room, including Charles, was just as surprised as you were when you saw the results. The meeting room is silent for a few seconds. But then people begin discussing the scans amongst themselves and how valuable Logan could be to the team.
While this is happening, Scott approaches Logan in the hallway of the teacher dorms. Logan had been heading to one of the common rooms, but Scott stopped him by calling out his name. Logan turns to face the other man, crosses his arms, and looks at him expectantly.Â
Scott returns this by crossing his arms.
âAlright. Listen, I know you just got here, but you need to stay away from my medic. They donât need you distracting them from their work, nor do the rest of us X-Men,â Scott scolds, pointing a finger at the other man.
Logan rolls his eyes and retorts mockingly, âI think they can make that decision themselves, Cyclops.â While saying Scott's code name, Logan shakes his head slightly from side to side before brushing past him to continue to the common room.Â
It is dinner time at the X-Mansion, which means that all the adults are eating together in the kitchen. It resembles breakfast, just with different food. And much like breakfast, Logan is the last to enter the kitchen. You smile when you see him and call Logan to sit beside you.Â
Ororo is sitting on your other side; she gives you a little nudge to the side and a playful smile. You return it with a roll of your eyes and a nudge.
Logan sits in the empty seat next to you, giving you a small smile as he begins eating his food.Â
The room is quiet and the air is awkward. The others seem to be glancing at Logan, seemingly waiting for him to say something. He was the new guy and no one wanted to overstep but they also didnât know how to bring him into the normal conversation. However, you didnât let that stop you.
âSucks being the new guy at school when youâre an adult, huh?â You tease Logan.
After that, the two of you immediately hit it off, joking, laughing, and bouncing off one another. This releases the tension in the room and the dinner table is again full of conversation.
After dinner, you and Scott wash and dry the dishes together. The team takes turns every day, and today, it was you and him. Logan stood close by, off to the side, continuing the conversation you were having during dinner.Â
Logan had offered to help with the dishes, but you told him, âNew guys donât wash dishes their first day.â He rolled his eyes but conceded to making you laugh from the side.
At one point, while you were scrubbing a bowl, Logan made you laugh enough that you let go of the faucet, splashing water on yourself and Scott.
Scott jabs you in the side, âWatch what you're doing I like this shirt.â It is a blatant lie, and you lightheartedly roll your eyes, giving Scott a jab in return, charged with a tiny amount of electricity. Not enough to hurt, but enough to pull a wince out of the man.Â
At first, he glares at you, but when Scott hears your devious giggle and sees your grin, he canât help but laugh along. You turn your attention back to the task at hand, giving Scott the cleaned bowl.Â
He joins you and Logan in your banter, occasionally telling Logan about something embarrassing you did to which you blush and try to get him to shut up. And when you canât, you tell embarrassing stories about Scott in return.
Once the dishes are done, Scott and you both have spots of water on your shirts, and the three of you walk together back to your individual rooms.Â
Scott is the first to split off, telling you a quick âgoodbyeâ as he slips into Jean's room. You smirk and nudge Logan, the two of you quietly chuckling at Scott's lack of subtlety.
Soon, the two of you reach your rooms. You're hesitant to say goodnight, not wanting to end the fun you're having. But itâs late and you already feel sleep tugging your eyelids.Â
âGoodnight, Logan, Iâll see you in the morning?â You tilt your head a bit and give him a genuine smile.
In return, Logan gives you a similar smile, âYeah, gânight, Y/N.â
The two of you part, shutting your doors seconds apart. You sigh, getting into your typical pajamas and flopping onto the bed, soon falling asleep.
Later into the night, sounds from the other side of the hall wake you up. Sitting up and blinking your eyes awake, you strain your ears to listen, hearing the sounds of Logan in pain and thrashing on the bed.Â
You jump out of your bed, tossing your covers to the side. You practically sprint to his door, opening it hastily only to find Rogue absorbing Logan's power to heal herself. There are three bloody punctures on her shoulder, clearly caused by Logan's claws.
Once you see that Rogue's wound is fully closed, you pull her carefully from Logan, making sure not to touch her skin yourself.Â
You turn towards the door to see Jean, Scott, and Ororo standing at the doorway, watching you in surprise as you handle the situation wonderfully.
Jean is the first to approach, kneeling beside the bed and quietly asking Rogue what happened. Rogue explains that Logan was having a nightmare and he had accidentally stabbed her when she tried to wake him up.
While listening, you check in on Logan, ensuring his powers are still working and healing him properly. You check his pulse and get a sense of his temperature with your hands. Heâs a little clammy and his heart rate is up a few beats from the adrenaline but other than that, Logan is back to normal.Â
You smile as Logan's eyes close, returning to the peace of sleep. Turning your attention to Jean, you look her in the eyes and give her a nod. She returns the nod and gets up, ushering the other two out of the room and down to their rooms; reassuring them that you have the situation under control.
You look at Rogue, finding the girl curling in on herself. Sheâs clearly scared and ashamed of what she did, even if no one ended up seriously hurt. You carefully place your hands on her shoulder, only touching her clothes. She looks up at you, eyes wide.
âYou know, everyone struggles with their powers. Especially ones that can hurt others if youâre not careful,â You tell her, hoping to bring some comfort. âWhen my powers manifested, I hurt people too. I shut down the power of an entire block in the city and sent electricity through everyone inside my house. I didnât kill anyone, but no one looked at me the same after that.â
You sigh at the memory of your mutation making itself known, âI donât blow out power grids anymore but Iâm still learning daily. I still mess up and hurt people. I donât mean to. It's just a natural part of learning to control your mutation.â
You can see the way your words affect her. Rogue immediately relaxes her tense shoulders, breathing regularly, and eyes no longer wide. You want to hug her but settle for patting her shoulder.
The two of you leave the room, closing the door behind you. You didnât even realize that Logan was awake while you comforted her. You didn't notice the small smile gracing his features. You tell Rogue goodnight, watching her disappear down the hallway.
You sigh softly, returning to your room. Laying down on your bed again, you pull the covers back over yourself. The pull of sleep wraps you in its embrace as you close your eyes and return to slumber.
Hope you all enjoyed! Please don't forget to like, reblog, and comment if you liked it!
This is the start of my silly little LoganxGN!Mutant!Reader story! It will loosely follow the plot of the first x-men movie. Basically just switch out Jean for reader as the center of Logan's romantic affection. Reader has a described power but other than that no physical description. Reader is also a medic/scientist like Jean and Hank. This is also cross posted on A03 if you want to read it there!
âSo, do you know what happened to the new arrivals?â you ask Jean, who walks beside you to the in-school infirmary and research bay.
âNot much. I haven't had the time to talk to Scott or Ororo yet. All I know is that one is a teenage girl named Rouge and the one, we will see now, is a man.â
As you reach the door, you give a little hum to show her you're listening. You press your hand to the sensor. The device takes a minute to scan your palm before flashing green and opening the doors.Â
Beyond the door is a sort of âmud roomâ that holds lab coats, gloves, masks, goggles, and other lab safety clothing. You and Jean both grab your respective lab coats (which have your name embroidered on the inside) and a pair of disposable gloves. Once the equipment is on, Jean compels the glass doors open with her mind, and the two of you walk in.Â
Immediately, you see the man Jean was speaking of lying on one of the many infirmary gurneys. Completely ignoring him for a moment, you gather a clipboard with pencil and paper to take notes and fill out the general form you have for everyone in the school. Only when you are beside the gurney with your note-taking supplies on the metal table do you really take in his features.Â
The first thing you notice is that this man is handsome, but you bury that thought in favor of taking actual notes. The man has dark brown hair that is tousled but seems to have been styled into two little animal-ear-like points. His skin is a light tan, which is clearly due to working in the sun. The man's eyebrows are naturally shaped into a furrow, giving even his resting face the appearance of scowling. And on each side of his lower jaw are mutton chops that truly only a man as handsome as him could pull off.
His chest, arm, and stomach muscles are well-defined. You guess this is from the same work that gifted the man his lovely tan. Said places are also covered in a smattering of dark brown hair. It curls out from the center of his chest to the edge, down the valleys of his stomach, and disappears under his pants and over his forearms.
During your inspection, Jean puts little circular, sticky sensors on the man's chest in preparation for the examination machine. Once the sensors are in their correct places, she takes his blood pressure before grabbing the pen on the table to scribble down his results.Â
You try your best to stay focused on the task at hand and not be distracted by this stranger's attractive visage but it's difficult not to when you have to focus on looking at him. Jean takes notice of your ogling and can't help herself but to smirk, giving your bicep a little nudge. You turn to face her, immediately annoyed at the expression you find on her face.Â
âLooks like someone is enjoying their research,â she teases in a quiet tone. She uses her powers to hand herself a syringe from the metal table next to the bed, inspecting it to ensure it wasnât tampered with or damaged.Â
You roll your eyes at her comment, write down your observations, and fill out the parts of the form you can. The clipboard is set to the side as you grab one of the man's arms, lifting his hand up to inspect it and the pocket of his elbow for any scars or markings. You don't give her the satisfaction of an answer. Instead, you simply elect to ignore her comment.Â
Jean notices this and giggles as she grabs the man's other arm, lining up the syringe with the crook of his elbow. You place the hand you were holding back onto the bed. With clipboard back in hand, you write that he only has a few faint scars across and in between his knuckles, evidence of fighting but none of injection drug use.Â
The two of you make eye contact, and after a shared nod, Jean begins to slowly press the needle into his skin and pierce the vein.
What happens next occurs in mere seconds. First, the man's eyes shoot open and flicker between you and Jean. Then he's standing up, pulling his arm away from the shot, the other hand curling around Jean's neck. Heâs now standing behind her with his syringe-free arm wrapped around the other to secure it.
The man's eyes dart across the room before landing on you. You mentally note to write down later that his eyes are a deep brown with a speck of Hazel. But nonetheless, you raise your hands to your head to show you have no intent to harm the man.
âHey! Weâre not trying to harm you! I promise we were simply checking you and possibly treating you for injuries that you might have sustained from the crash and fight. We mean you know harm,â you try your best to convince the feral-looking man.Â
His eyes flick around your face and then the room once more. A noise that sounds more like an animalistic growl than what a human makes leaves his mouth as he lets go of Jean with a shove and rushes out of the room.Â
Jean coughs and catches her breath, her hands gently holding her own throat as you lower your hands back to your sides. You let out a sigh as you pick up the tossed syringe, placing it next to your clipboard on the table. You walk to Jean and put a comforting hand on her back.
âWell, heâs going to be a fun one,â you grumble, only half sarcastic. Jeanâs laugh in response makes a smile cross your face. You pat her back before returning your hand to your side. She stands up straight and smiles at you in return, a quiet âthank youâ whispered into the back of your mind. You nod then look to the door where the man had left.
You shake your head and peel off the plastic gloves sticking to your hands, tossing them to the trashcan nearby. The lab coat slips off your shoulders as you place it onto the gurney nearby. Jean follows suit as you walk towards the glass door, beridding herself of her lab clothing and taking long strides to catch up with you.
âAt least he has a pretty face to look at,â you hum, a laugh bubbling in the back of your throat. A giggle shoots out of Jean, tossing her head back in the laughter.
âI knew you were checking him out!â Jean teases, making your cheeks redden.Â
You wave her off as the two of you exit out the second pair of doors, facing the long hallway to the stairs and elevators that lead upstairs. The two of you decide to split up. Jean checks out the rest of the basement while you head upstairs to look through the rest of the mansion.Â
As soon as you reach the floor level of the estate, a familiar, comforting voice enters your mind. âThe new mutant is in my office. Please meet us there for proper introductions,' Charles speaks. You assume that he sends the same message to the rest of the X-men.Â
Luckily for you Xaviors office is only a few minutes walk from where you are currently. You waste no time in walking up the stairs past the many students and down the hall till you reach the ornate door at the front of the professor's office, a little golden plaque displaying his name about a foot and a half above where the handle is.Â
You turn the handle and slowly push the door open, taking care not to accidentally hit the new mutant if he was standing right in front of it. Once you see that he is not there, you open the door all the way, leaning left against the door frame. You cross your arms in front of your chest. A smirk spreads across your face as you notice the jacket the man has seemingly âborrowedâ from the changing room in the basement.Â
It's a blue-tinted medium gray zip-up jacket. And even though he's turned away from you, you know that there is a blue X-men patch on the left side. The hoodie seems not fully zipped as the fabric is not fully covering his shoulders and slipping down his back, perfectly showing just enough skin to tease your imagination. And god, does it look amazing on him like that.
Charles gestures to you with his left hand, a permanent soft smile on his lips. The man turns to face you. And it reveals just what you were expecting; the zipper is only up to about his sternum. Zipped up just enough to not show off everything but still down enough that you can see his clavicle and his chest that's painted with dark brown hair. It makes you want to slide your hands into the jacket to feel what you cannot see.
But hearing your code name coming from Xaviors mouth pulls you out of your thoughts. You push them far back as you give the man standing before you a little wave, meeting his eyes for the first time since entering the room. The deep, woodsy color is something you are slowly becoming acquainted with. A similar smirk to yours is plastered on his face as his eyes sweep over your form. If you didn't know better, you would say he was checking you out.Â
You put your hand out in front of you, presenting it to Logan for a handshake.Â
âOr you could just call me by my real name, Y/N. It's nice to meet you again.â This gains you a chuckle from the man and a playful eye roll from Charles. The jacket-donned man clasps his slightly bigger hand to yours and gives a half-hearted shake.Â
âNames Logan, some call me Wolverine, but I'm willinâ to guess you already knew that, sweetheart,â the tone in which he says the pet name sends a shiver up your spine. And his damned smirk paired with it isn't helping your goal to not get flustered.Â
So, why not return the favor? At least in some way. Using a bit of energy you always had stored away just in case, you give Logan a little shock. Itâs nothing more than one of those prank hand buzzers. But it does get you the desired result, a wince paired with a hiss as he pulls his hand away from yours.Â
Logan looks down at his hand to find not even a wound to be healed. His gaze turns back up to connect with yours as your smirk turns into a grin. You hold up the hand you just used to shock him, making the âdevil hornsâ with your thumb out. In between the two digits, a small, faintly purple-colored electrical current forms between them.
Logan's eyes drift to it as his hand returns to his side, then back to yours. He rolls his eyes at your unbidden glee. He tries to give off the impression he is not impressed, but you can see the hint of a smile playing at the edges of his lips.Â
âI can control electrical currents, manipulate them to make machines do what I want. I can take their energy, store it in my body, and send it back out just like that.â You return the energy you were using back into your body, veins in your hand and arm glowing for no more than a second. Your arms are back to being crossed, along with your shoulder being pressed against the door.Â
Logan's mouth opens as if he is about to say something, but he shuts it as Scott and Ororo appear in the doorway behind you. They are closely followed by Jean. Who, unbeknownst to you, slips her hand into Scotts.
You move further into the room so that the other three donât have to stand in the doorway behind you. Ororo is the first to introduce herself with a little wave and her usual kind smile. They each tell Logan their names, code names, and their powers. Jean is the only one able to show it as she lifts a pencil off Charles's desk.Â
Throughout the entire exchange, Logan keeps an unimpressed look on his face. But it's a little more genuine than with you. You canât help but giggle a little, covering your mouth with your hand to pass it off as a cough. The two of you meet eyes again, and Logan's lips twitch into a smile at your actions.Â
Charles notices the two of you no longer paying attention to the others and claps his hands together. All the heads in the room snap to face him as he wheels around to be in front of his finely carved wooden desk.Â
âY/N, since the two of you appear to be getting along, please show Logan where his room is and give him a tour of the school.â It sounds like a gentle request, but you can tell from the look on Xavior's face that he is a bit miffed at your behavior.Â
A blush blooms across your cheeks as you nod.
âWill do, professor,â you respond not a moment later. Your tone is much like that of a student who was just scolded by a teacher, and in some ways, your relationship with Charles was like that.
You turn to face the door to walk out. As you turn your head, you catch Jean's teasing smirk. You roll your eyes at her antics. You nod your head towards the door and only start moving when Logan follows. You only glance at him briefly as you quickly turn to exit. Storm bumps your shoulder almost imperceptibly and winks at you. You narrow your eyes in return to her gesture, waiting for Logan outside the hall.Â
Once he stands beside you in the hall and the door is closed, you huff and drop your shoulders from where they had been practically pressed to your ears. You feel almost like Logan is looking at you, but you don't bother checking. Taking a step forward, you begin your tour of the institute.Â
The air around you is filled with awkward tension. And part of you is tempted to let it stay that way lest you become distracted by Logan again. And his stupidly good-looking stolen jacket. However, despite your valiant effort, your eyes flit to Logan's face.Â
From his side profile, you can see his defined jawline through the facial hair and subtle frown lines that stretch from the edges of his nose to the outer corner of his lips.Â
Catching yourself, you return your gaze onward. You find yourselves at the top of the staircase before the entrance. You perk up a bit at the opening of conversation.
âThis is the entrance to the school; you can access most of the inside areas from here. The kitchen is through there, the student dormitories are down that hallway, and the teachers are opposite. Classrooms are upstairs, as are the rest of the dormitories. Downstairs is where the infirmary, laboratory, and battle practice rooms are,â you explain as you walk down the stairs, pointing to each of the doorways and stairs to tell him what they are.Â
âWe were holding you in the infirmary early if you couldnât tell, but we also occasionally use it as an extra lab. We have a library and a few common rooms on this level that connect the dorms.â
Turning to Logan, you see him nod, his particular way of showing you he was listening. You flash him a grin and head to the teacher's rooms. Walking down the hallway, you pass by a few students, to whom you give high-fives as you pass.
âI'll show you the room weâre providing you while you're with us. And Iâll tell you whose room is whose in case you ever need any of us.â Logan raises an eyebrow at this but doesn't comment. He just simply follows.
The hallway is mostly just a long series of doors. However, it is occasionally broken up by large windows with couches in front of them, bookshelves, and small tables with decorations and plants on them. As you pass by the doors, you point to each, telling Logan whose room it is and how to remember it.
âThese two are Jean and Scott's rooms, though usually they are in one or the other. Theyâre the first room, so it makes them easy to find. This room right here is Ororoâs, and Hankâs is across from it. You havenât met him yet âcause he's on a mission right now, but heâll be pretty hard to miss when he returns. Hanks always has blue fur at the threshold, and you can usually hear music from Ororoâs.â
There's a bit more hallway that you two walk before you reach your door, and by some gracious being above, where Charles decided to put Logan. You smile upon seeing the familiar door to your room.
âThis one is my room,â you say while pointing at the door. âItâs probably going to be the easiest for you to remember because it's right across from where you will be staying.â
A smirk spreads across Logan's lips, and he turns to you. âAnd Iâm sure that was by complete accident; it's definitely just a coincidence.â He nudges your shoulder teasingly as he walks to the door of his new room.
You chuckle and roll your eyes at his insinuation.Â
âYouâd like that, wouldnât you? But no, I donât have a say in how rooms are picked; that's all Xaviors doing. Trust me, if I had any say, I would be on the top floor with my window facing the backyard.â
Logan's smirk never leaves as he opens the door. The nod he sends your way gives you the impression that he doesnât entirely believe you. He steps inside the room, looking around. You walk in behind Logan but stay near the door.Â
âAll the rooms have separate bathrooms, so don't worry about sharing. Right now, all we have is basic clothes for you, but feel free to get yourself some new ones. The closet's that door right there if you do,â you point to each door after explaining their respective purpose.
The room is in its basic cookie-cutter style, which all of them start with: plain off-white walls with wood paneling and crown molding. A window facing the outside has a plain queen-sized bed right under it. All of the cloth in the room is the same cream color. It gives the feeling of a hotel.
Logan turns to face you after sitting on the bed's edge. Arms propping him up from behind and legs mildly spread.
âWhat? Don't want me wearing your fancy X-men clothing?â Is his only response to anything you said. You smile and roll your eyes at him, one of your hands resting on your hips.
âNo, I just got the impression that you wouldnât want to wear Scott's hoodie,â you gesture to the gray zip-up, which, in your opinion, looks better on him than it ever has on Scott. "And he wonât be too happy about it either. â
The way Logan looks at you can only be described as incredulous, disgust, and dread all rolled into one. It almost makes you laugh. But you manage to keep it at just an amused smile.Â
âYou're just saying that to get me shirtless again.â
You give him a shrug with your hands raised, âYou don't have to believe me, but I can bet you $100s that Scott's name is on it.â The man grumbles under his breath about something you donât quite catch as he unzips the jacket and strips it off.Â
Youâre tempted to look, but you peel your eyes away to show Logan you are being truthful and don't just want to see him shirtless. As you look away, youâre reminded again of how bare the room is.Â
âYou can also decorate how you like. Charles just asks to keep it child-appropriate in case one of them has to come in here.â
Logan chuckles and shakes his head as he tosses Scott's jacket to you.
âYeah, yeah, I get it. I wonât get anything too âadultâ.â He makes quotation marks with his fingers as he says, âadult.â You smile in return as you catch the jacket. You drape it over one of your arms, willing everything that you donât blush or start glowing.Â
âOh yeah, I forgot to show you earlier, but the laundry room is further down the hall. It has a little plaque, so you won't miss it. You know, for whenever you do get your own clothes.â
You expect him to laugh at your retort, but he gives you this quiet smile instead. Not a smirk, a genuine smile, albeit a very small one, but a smile nonetheless. It makes a bundle of butterflies spread through your chest. Much like the blush, you try your best to suppress the feelings. You donât need your powers giving you away this early.
All he says in response besides the smile is a simple, âthanks.â
You smile wider in return and give him a little nod. You turn and exit through the doorway, turning to him once you're past the threshold.Â
âIâll be across the hall or in the lab if you need anything.â You close the door behind you and walk over to your own. You let out a relieved sigh once in the safety of your room. A faint purple glow begins to emanate from your veins. A result of you releasing the hold on your powers. Once the light fades, you take a moment to collect yourself before leaving to return to the lab.
Hope you all enjoyed! I can't promise a consistent schedule but I'll aim for a chapter a week. Thank you to my friend c20w for beta reading! And credit to strangergraphics for the beautiful banners!
