the people of the marauders era (requested by: @reneewallkers)
they were yells during quidditch and group hugs after. they were ongoing inside jokes and constant bickering. they were relentless fights ‘til the end and patching up wounds. they were keeping secrets and being honest. they were quiet nights in the common room and loud strides down the hallways.. they were a family. a family made of love and friendship. a family that no one but death could break apart. The Great Marauder’s prank wall headcanon
Okay but imagine this…
-The Marauders having a wall in the dorm covered with paper
-It starts out when James writes a note to Sirius about the potions homework
-Then it just becomes the default place to stick reminders and notes that are just never taken down again
-Then Remus takes a risk and adds a photo of the four of them at the end of the first year
-The photo stays up and is quickly joined by hundreds of others
-When Sirius starts writing really bad poetry he sticks that up there too
-The others like to write feedback to him
-James kind of misses the point of ‘constructive’ criticism
-“PRONGS HOW IS ‘THIS IS CRAP’ GOING TO HELP ME IMPROVE MY ARTISTIC PROSE”
-When the war starts they stick up articles about disappearances they want to solve
-A shrine is made in one corner to commemorate those lost
-When they leave they each sign the wall with non-removable ink
-They also write one thing they want to try and do before they die
-When the war is over Mcgonagall finds the wall
-On it is written the following
-‘Before I die I want to make peace with my brother’
-'Before I die I want to gain control’
'Before I die I want to have a whole bunch of kids with the best woman ever and then they’ll all form a super Potter quidditch team’
-And last of all in the smallest and neatest writing it says
-'Before I die I want to not be afraid’
-Mcgonagall takes everything down and puts it in a large box
-She sends it to Harry anomalously
-She adds a note saying this
-'Before I die I want to be outlived’
It was dark, so dark all you could make out were shapes that moved in the dark. Not that anything was actually moving, Marlene assumed she was alone. Not many people would stay with the person they had tied up. She was currently tied to something, she wasn’t sure what it was, a pole of some sort, he hands behind her back, every time she moved her hands her wrists burned as whatever was holding her to the pole cut into her wrists, she could feel her blood running down her fingers.
It was freezing and damp, there was a drip of water steadily dripping down her back, her clothes clung to her, the damp have gotten into them, she smell in– wherever she was– was awful, the kind of smell that really stuck up your nose. Really sulphurous, it made her eyes water and caused her to gag. Marlene couldn’t remember what had happened, or where she was, no matter how much she tried she was drawing a blank. She knew she was hurt, she could feel the pain in her legs and her entire body felt like it had been sliced at my a thousand tiny shards of glass.
The only thing she could think that had happened to her was that maybe the death eaters had taken her, maybe they had taken her like they took her mother— As if on cue a door opened in front of her the harsh light that erupted from it hurting her eyes, she squinted trying to focus her eyes to see what was going on. Eventually a silhouette covered the door way, it looked male and tall with wide shoulders, he looked as if he were hunched over, almost. It was a really strange sight. As the man drew closer the door closed and he disappeared into the darkness.
Marlene’s heart rate raised and her palms became sweaty. How could she defend herself if she couldn’t even see her attacker? Suddenly a face came into view, well a mask but she could see the pair of harsh blue eyes behind the mask.
“Miss McKinnon, you’re awake!” It was a man’s voice, she recognised it from somewhere though she couldn’t put her finger on where she had heard it before.
“Who are you?” She demanded. Having to force her voice not to shake “what do you want?”
“What I want, Miss McKinnon. Is for you to cooperate, to tell me what you know. I want you to tell me what your mother was doing, snooping around this house, and what did she find out.” He asked in a menacingly calm voice.
“What?” Marlene said startled. “My mother died, I don’t know anything, she didn’t tell me anything. I wouldn’t tell you anyway.” She snarled.
The man laughed. “Poor little innocent Marlene, who doesn’t know anything, who doesn’t do anything. Little Marlene who’s second best, always feigning to be superior. You don’t even deserve your blood status you waste it by identifying with the mudblood scum and the traitors. You disgust me!” He spat in her face.
Marlene’s face hardened. “Do it then… Kill me. Fucking kill me, I’m not going to help you, be like you so you may as well get it over and done with. Just fucking do it!” She screamed at the man. Who turned away from her, he laughed menacingly and reached for something that was behind him. He pulled out his wand and pulled the object around, it was Marlene’s mother. She gasped her mouth forming her mother’s name.
“Now Miss McKinnon shall we try again? Tell me what you know.” He snarled.
“Marlene don’t you dare!” Her mother gasped. “Don’t tell him anything” she cried.
"But mum, he’ll kill you!!!” She said tears clouding her already limited vision. Her mother gave her a sort pitiful look.
“But sweetheart I’m already dead…” She said softly. The man placed he wand against her throat and said the words, the flash of green filled her vision and she screamed.
“You bastard!” She shouted she could feel her cheeks wet from tears. She looked down at the lifeless body of her mother at her feet and sobbed.
“Poor little Marlene McKinnon. You couldn’t save your mum, won’t be able to save your family or your friends. How could you, save them, when you can’t even save yourself?” He said coldly.
The room exploded in light. It blinded Marlene, when she opened her eyes her bindings were gone and she could move freely. She looked at her hands, they were covered in blood. She looked down at herself, physically she looked fine. No cuts or bruises, she felt as though she’d been hit by a bus but she looked fine, Marlene raised her eyes again and gasped.
The room was perfectly white, but that wasn’t what her eyes were drawn to. It was the bodies that surrounded her, first her mother’s at her feet along with the bodies of her brothers all around, her father’s body lay just behind her mothers. Marlene was shocked, she felt like she couldn’t breathe, her lungs felt like they were filled with glass that cut her every time she breathed.
Just beyond the bodies of her family she noticed a flash of red hair, she quickly made her way over to find the bodies of her friends lay next, Dorcas, Mary, Remus, Peter. Marlene felt sick, tears were already flowing down her cheeks freely as her hand covered her mouth.
She could hardly bring herself to keep going, she wanted to drop down and die herself. But then she saw Lily and James, lying wrapped in each other it looked almost like a lovers embrace, but they were lifeless, they had obviously died holding each other, Marlene fell to her knees, letting out a cry, wanting to curl up and just make it all stop.
Marlene opened her eyes slowly, her eyes tracking onto the person who may in front of her, a face she’d recognise anywhere, she curve of his neck, his cheek bones and those stormy grey eyes, she always thought his eyes could always see right through her, right into her soul, it scared her that he could see parts of her she never wanted anyone to see. His eyes now however were glassy and clouded, lifeless, all spark was gone from them. Marlene fell to her knees again, this time dry heaving, she felt physically sick. Why was this happening, she didn’t even really understand what was happening, how did she get here? She heard footsteps behind her, her back straightened and she balled her fists, she turned to look at the man approaching her.
“Why? You killed everyone I love!! Why?” She cried
“Because I wanted to Miss McKinnon.” He snarled “you didn’t give me what I want so I killed people you love. And now I have no use for you, so now I need to dispose of you.” He snarled.
Marlene stiffened up standing rigidly. “Fucking do it then, because I’m not telling you fuck all!” She shouted. She saw his lips form the words as he raised his wand. She saw the flash of green and closed her eyes.
She shot awake, gasping for air. She was sitting in her bed in the Gryffindor girls dorm. She looked around her, Lily’s bed was empty, she’d be with James. Dorcas and Mary were asleep in their beds. It had all just been a really bad dream. Marlene heart was beating at a million miles an hour in her chest. She laid back down and fixed her covers, closing her eyes and trying to sleep, she couldn’t though, every time she closed her eyes all she could see was the room from her nightmare, all her friends lying dead around her. It made her feel sick, there was no way she was ever going to get to sleep feeling like this.
Marlene laid on her back staring at the ceiling for what felt like ages, not able to close her eyes. Normally on a night like this where the nightmares were so bad she couldn’t physically sleep afterwards, she would climb into Lily’s bed. But Lily wasn’t there, she was with James. She would also go through to the boys dorm and climb into one of her older brothers beds, knowing they would protect her from whatever happened, but all her older brothers had graduated so that was out of the question, James was another option but this brought her back to Lily, she couldn’t exactly go to be comforted by her best friend when he was in bed with his girlfriend could she? Marlene was about to just turn on her lamp and do homework all night when another name popped into her head.
Sirius.
They’d been sleeping together for months now, and Marlene couldn’t deny the sex was pretty amazing. Why the hell was his name popping into her head right now, she certainly wasn’t in the mood for that, after a nightmare. Of course it wasn’t just sex, she liked him. He made her laugh, he challenged her to be better and of course he comforted her when she was upset, in fact he’s been there for her a lot in the past year. They’d started their no-strings thing after getting drunk one night and falling into bed and it continued from there, she had promised herself from the beginning that there was no way she would ever let her heart get involved, she’d been down that road before and it only ended badly.
But she knew, somewhere along the line her heart had gotten involved. She used to just leave straight after, now they’d cuddle or just lie and chat for hours about whatever was going through their heads that day, they’d always sneak off to have a fag together or climb up onto the roof to share a bottle of whiskey.
Well shit. Marlene thought as she sat up in her bed. She couldn’t be alone, not right now. She felt as though she might break down any minute. She quickly climbed out of bed and made her way over to the boy’s dorm, she quietly made her way into the marauders’ bedroom and walked over to Sirius’ bed. She cast a glance over at James and Lily, asleep wrapped in each other. Just like they had been in her nightmare. She had to clamp her hand over her mouth to stop her from sobbing and waking everyone up.
She climbed into Sirius’ bed to find him as he always slept, sprawled out on his back, his hair over his face. She laid down next to him, popping her head into the crook of his neck. This woke him up and she looked up at his grey eyes as they looked at her with sleepy confusion.
‘’Marls? What? – Why are you here? It’s the middle of the night?’’ he asked studying her face. He noticed the marks on her cheeks from where she’d been crying. ‘’Are you okay?’’ he asked suddenly awake, he sat up and pulled his curtains around his bed, and casting a silencing charm around them.
Marlene simply shook her head burying her head in his chest, letting the tears flow down her cheeks. ‘’Everyone died… Everyone was dead.’’ she sobbed into his chest. ‘’He killed everyone, you, James, Lily, my family and all our friends. And it was all my fault. I couldn’t save everyone… I couldn’t save you.’’ she cried, in-between harsh sobs that shook through her.
‘’Shhh, Marlene it’s okay, it was just a dream…’’ He said while holding her close, letting her cry into his chest, his hands rubbing soothing circles on her back trying to calm her.
Marlene just had to cry it out, she wrapped her arms tightly around Sirius as if she was holding onto her own sanity and just let it out. Sirius just held her silently letting her cry it out, he just held her rubbing soothing circles on her back and stroking her hair, he wouldn’t make her talk about because he knew that she wouldn’t want to talk about it. He’s gotten the gist of the dream before she’d broken down.
Sirius held her until well after she’d cried herself tired and had fallen asleep. Sirius didn’t even try and sleep until he was sure she was out for the count, only then did he close his eyes and fell asleep with her in his arms.
He would be there for her in any way she needed him, whenever she needed him. Because that’s what you do when you’re in love.
Sirius’ girlfriend gets jealous over his and Lily’s friendship, for anon.
“There he is!” Marlene said cheerfully as Sirius’ motorbike came roaring towards them. Sirius heaved it on one heel as he drove, Making her heart heave in her chest as well. The forewheel met the ground after a short while and he took a spin on the left, stopping right in front of them.
“Wotcher, ladies!”
“Do you always have to show off?” Lily asked, rolling her eyes.
“Always in front of my two favorite girls.” He winked at her.
Marlene glanced at Lily, her smile frozen.
“So, what d’you think of my new baby?” He asked, patting the bike affectionately.
“Oh, she’s lovely.” Marlene said, raising an eyebrow.
“I know right?” Sirius looked up at the girls, smirking. “Who’s up for a ride?”
“Why n…”
“Sure!” Lily cut Marlene off excitedly. “Only if you don’t mind, Marls. I have to come back soon to meet James anyway, we won’t be long!”
Sirius checked Marlene’s reaction. She nodded, but as soon as Lily had looked away, her smile vanished.
“Hey, Lils, you know what? I’m going to lend it to Prongs as soon as I’m back, so he can take you for a ride.” He glanced at Marlene. “Come on, baby. I hope you like speed.”
Marlene’s eyes widened, and she glanced at Lily.
“What are you waiting for !” Lily rolled her eyes, and smiled. “Have fun, you two, and no hanky-panky!”
“We’ll do our best to behave.” Sirius mumbled as Marlene climbed behind him, wrapping her arms around his chest.
“Why didn’t you pick Lily?” She asked once her friend was out of earshot.
“I didn’t have to pick, Marls.” He said, making the bike roar again. “It’s always you.”
“James is soooo going to kill you for taking me to this.”
“Ah, it’ll be worth it, Blondie. Here, you’ve got some paint right…..there….”
“What? Where?”
“On your mouth. Don’t worry, I’ll get it.”
-Sirius Black kissing is girlfriend, Marlene McKinnon, while the two attended a New Year’s Eve party in Glasgow that got a little….colorful, right after which he was accused by the blonde of being “a sly little fellow”.
-Taken by company Dorcas Meadowes, who figured that if this was Sirius’ last night alive, it might as well be documented.
“See, James, this view is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. Wasn’t it worth waking up for?”
“If by ‘waking up for’, you mean being jumped on at four in the morning by an eccentric blonde, then kidnapped, thrown a jacket, and dragged up some unknown mountain when it was still pitch black outside….then yes, yes it was.”
-James Potter and Marlene McKinnon (said kidnapper), watching the sunrise atop a mountain peak miles away from Hogwarts, because Marlene was determined to still have beauty, even in the midst of a war.
-Taken by a camera which Marlene had accidentally charmed, when jumping on James.
