@thejoanglebook talking about their experience with discovering what it meant to be on the asexual spectrumâŠas an ace person myself was just so validating? Like, Iâve been fortunate to come into far more contact with ace positivity than ace negativity, but this is still tumblr and Iâve had my fair share of nonsense from the aphobes out there, not to mention most of my positive experiences with the ace community are all from tumblr as well. So to have this validation come from someone who I respect and admire both as a person and as an artistâŠwho I have a name and a face and a voice to attach to the message instead of a username and iconâŠit was just really really special. And one more item on a ridiculously long list of why I appreciate Joan and everything that they do so so much.
Oh my gosh, same! Iâm actually am pan/ace (they are pan/demi) and I can say their analogy was amazing!
âIts like learning what asexuality actually meant was a door opening, and suddenly there were all these BEAUTIFUL peopleâ
The same reasons that you said, Taylor, of having a true definable thing to connect this to, was so, so powerful. I cried watching the video.
Between Joan and Talyn, their amazing input has to be some of the best Iâve heard.
Yes!! And when Talyn talked about their experiences of just dating someone just bc they were asked out and then breaking up with them when they started getting intimate and advancing sexually in the relationship instead of just talking about asexuality I related so much and I didnât even realise! Iâve been questioning a lot recently if Iâm asexual or not but just brushing it off like âoh nah I canât be asexual I just havenât met the right person Iâll be sexually attracted to people soon blah blah blahâ and talking to people about it and theyâve also been like âoh nah youâre probably not asexual youâll want to have sex eventuallyâ as if they could see inside my head, and I dated someone for a couple months and when they tried to advance with me past just making out I broke up with him and never spoke to him again and now Talyn talking about having a similar experience has actually made me realise that I legitimately might be asexual and itâs not just me making it up and that itâs okay to be this way and it isnât any less valid than any other sexuality
This is why itâs so important to have these conversations about asexuality, in general, yes, but also specifically in the context of queer spaces alongside other queer people. The âIâll keep dating until I find someone who Iâm sexually attracted toâ mentality is nearly identical to Paigeâs âIâll keep dating men until I find one Iâm intoâ mentality, but BOTH are harmful and can lead to you really hurting yourself or someone else. A-spec people need our voice heard alongside our lesbian, gay, and bi/pan siblings so that we can BE THERE for each other and HELP one another.
Itâs. So. Important!
So true! I feel like asexuality is just brushed off and like once I told my friend I was thinking Iâm asexual and they were like âyeah but u know they donât feel sexually attracted to anyone but they can still have sexual urges rightâ as if I hadnât thought about it for ages. And another one of my friends were like âoh but donât you find this person hot?â And I was like âyeah theyâre really hot but I would never have sex with themâ and he was like â????â And it made me feel so invalidated and like I was wrong or like I should want to have sex with people like Iâm 19 why donât I feel turned on when I make out with people? Why donât I want to take it further? I genuinely like this person and have a crush on them but why donât I want to be intimate? Having those conversations with people who have experienced the same thing and feel the same way is SO IMPORTANT because it makes you understand that itâs a normal thing even if it seems uncommon

if youâve ever wondered what itâs like to live in the midwest, this is it.Â
You missed some of the best ones
the best part about it is that the art installation isnât actually called the Bean. Itâs called Cloud Gate, and artist Anish Kapoor (yes, THAT Anish Kapoor) hates that we call it the Bean.
But i mean, look at it. Itâs a bean.
How could you forget this one though
I HAD NO FUCKING IDEA THAT THE BEAN WAS CREATED BY ANISH KAPOOR.
someone help me why is anish kapoor important what did he do?
Alright sit down for some Art World Drama bcause this is what I live for.
So, sometime last year (?) science invented Vantablack, which is the darkest possible shade of black. Art world got incredibly excited. But as it needs to be very carefully made in a lab, itâs hard to get a hold of, and is extremely expensive. Enter Anish Kapoor, aka FuckFace McGee. Anish Kapoor buys the rights to Vantablack. He is the only human being on the planet that can legally use it, and heâs kind of a prick about it.
Art world is not thrilled with that.
Enter Stuart Semple.
Stuart Semple is an artist, and also makes pigments to sell in his free time. Stuart Semple is astoundingly pissed about this Vantablack nonsense, and Anish Kapoorâs dickery. Stuart Semple makes a new pigment, the brightest shade of pink ever, called Pinkest Pink, and puts it for sale on the internet. To be bought by everybody except Anish Kapoor. Literally, to purchase, you need to confirm that you are not Anish Kapoor, do not associate with him, and will not sell or give the pigment to Anish Kapoor or his associates. Art world has a good laugh, everyone buys Pinkest Pink because itâs awesome, and damn it we deserve something.
Anish Kapoor however is a penis, and will not take this lying down, because HOW DARE he not have literally everything.
Anish Kapoor gets his London associates to buy him a thing of Pinkest Pink, and being such a classy human being, posts a picture to instagram of him with his middle finger covered in Pinkest Pink, captioned with âUp yours. #pinkâ
Everyone flips shit, because. Yâknow. Fuck that guy. Especially Stuart Semple. For context here, Anish Kapoor is one of the richest artists on the planet, and has repeatedly been referred to as everything wrong with the art world, and the epitome of the art worlds elitism problem. Heâs a giant douchebag. Meanwhile Stuart Semple makes pigments just to get them out there. He turns 0 profit from his now enourmously popular pigments.
Stuart Semple launches an investigation as to who the fuck leaked Pinkest Pink, and plans to strike back. He does so by releasing two new products. First is Diamond Dust, which is a glitter made from glass, so that a painting is still visible after itâs applied, but glitters like a mofo. Itâs the most reflective glitter out there, and is available to everyone who isnât Anish Kapoor. And it being made of glass, if you stick your finger in there, itâs going to hurt quite a bit, so that was Stuart Sempleâs way of saying âshove your middle finger in this, asshole, see what happensâ. Except without saying that, because he can get an insult across while still being fucking classy.
He also releases Black 2.0, created with the help of over a thousand artists worldwide.
Black 2.0 is the answer to Vantablack. Black 2.0 is a slightly less black black, but looks functionally the same to the human eye. Itâs completely safe, smells like cherries, and costs four pounds. Vantablack is highly toxic, potentially explosive, needs to be applied in a special laboratory and sealed properly, canât be moved across borders, can reach 300 degrees celsius if youâre not extremely careful, and costs thousands of dollars. Anish Kapoor is the only human being who can use Vantablack. He is the only human being who cannot use Black 2.0.
So I think we can guess who got the better deal.
And thus the feud ends, Kapoor defeated.
âŠBut not quite.
Kapoor, in this entire afair, has made exactly two comments to the public. The first being his charming message about aquiring Pinkest Pink, the second being claiming to Buzzfeed that he and his small army of lawyers will be suing Semple, an extremely poor artist who cannot afford a lawyer.
No lawsuit has been made yet, fyi.
The point is, Kapoor is a prick, and doesnât like talking to the lower classes. So one day in July 2017, he decides he needs another floor on his London studio apartment, and starts making arrangements to have it built. His neighbors are fucking pissed, because this will ruin the light of their apartments. They call to Semple to save them, or at the very least piss Kapoor off some more.
Semple answers to the call, and releases two new paints, Phaze and Shift, as always, banned to Kapoor. They change colours, Phaze with temperature, and Shift is just iridescent. Shift needs to be painted over Black 2.0 to work, and Phaze just works on its own.
So thatâs been the art world for the last two years.
Basically, get fucked Anish Kapoor your bean sucks and so does your vantablack.
Stuart Semple is organising a bean-kissing event for Anish Kapoorâs birthday.
Reblogging for âBy attending this event you confirm that you are not Anish Kapoor, you are in no way affiliated with Anish Kapoor, you are not attending on behalf of Anish Kapoor or an associate of Anish Kapoor. To the best of your knowledge, information, and belief this event will not be attended by Anish Kapoor.â

I donât know if Iâm proud or disappointed...
People look down on McDonaldâs employees but fail to realize that if all these folks left McDonaldâs and pursued âbetter careersâ  your ass wouldnât be able to get a McDouble with an Oreo McFlurry at 3am.Â
