What's the pacer test? D:

oh god.

The pacer is a test in gym class/PE that brings a shiver of despair down the spine of any unfortunate soul who has gone through it before. And it’s usually done at least once a year.

Students line up on one side of the gym, eyeing nervously the painted line before the opposite wall that will decide their fate. The teacher hits play on the stereo and a cheery woman’s voice echoes through the gymnasium. fuck that woman’s happy demeanor. She explains the rules as the kids wait anxiously. Get to the other line before the beep plays. Simple enough, right?

“Ready? Begin!” she calls, and the gut wrenching ‘beep!’ plays after.

The kids awkwardly half jog to the other line, with about 3 or 4 seconds before the next beep. Each time the horrendous noise plays they run back and forth to the lines. “Level one, complete” she says, as to pat you on the back for what little victory you’ve achieved.

Not bad, the kids think. But then comes level 2. level 3. With each interval the time between the beeps shorten, and you’re running as fast as you can to the other line. Your foot hits it, you pivot, the beep plays, youre running again. Your lungs burn, your throat is sore, your heart is on the verge of an attack. No rest. No mercy.

A girl is the first to crawl over to the instructor, defeated. Seeing one has fallen, other students begin to follow since “at least theyre not the first ones out”. Clutching their chests they bail out of the test. One girls crying. You can’t tell if the boy on the gym floor is alive or not. Three kids left for the water fountain and still havent made it back.

And then, the fallen sit there, watching the myths, the legends, the kids who have made it past 100 laps. 120. 150. When they finally collapse a cheer erupts from the students. Theyre heroes.

But the excitement only lasts for so long as the next round of nervous kids line up, who opted to go in the second wave and prolong their torture. The womans voice kicks back up. The beep plays. The cycle continues.

First, I apologize for this shitty gifset and bunch of grammar mistakes I’m about to make. Second, I’m sure we all heard the news about cancellation by Netflix. What a surprise, another good show got canceled by Netflix. But this does not mean we should give up. If Brooklyn Nine Nine can be saved, Anne with an E can be saved as well. If One Day at a Time can be saved, so can this show. Insert here any shows that got canceled and was brought back another season. Anne With an E is a Canadian TV Show based on 1908 Novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery which is brought over by Netflix. Yes, it is another adaptation based on those books. But it is different. Very different. Even though Anne has struggled, went through many hardships in life but she continues to live through her life with so much imagination, light and positivity. She brought that to a little town called Avonlea and Green Gables. She found a family that loves her. She have friends. She continues to grow and inspired the people around her. All the characters you will see on show are complex and lovable. You will love watching all of these characters grow to be the best person they can be. The show tackles on feminism, racism, homophobia, sexism, sexual assault and many other topics that need to be discussed. The friendships and relationships you will see on the show are beautiful to watch. Not to mention, the visuals, cinematography, the landscapes are truly beautiful. This show was filmed in Canada. A little side note from me, if you’re a Bellarke shipper like me, this show will heal those wounds. Here’s how can you help:

My boss called me “Tyrone” on accident (My name is Tyrand). She apologized and bought me lunch to make up for it. I didn’t think twice about it, since I’m used to getting called every variant of “Ty-(fill in blank here)”. Then later on I read a quote she keeps in her work area that made me feel kinda special.

“During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: “What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?” Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. “Absolutely,” said the professor. “In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say ‘Hello’.”

I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.“
