a lot of people throw around the term “treacherous twink”, for villains who aren’t particularly treacherous, or twinks.
But damn. That was, in fact, the most treacherous of all twinks.
Ravenous (1999) dir. Antonia Bird
Ives & Boyd + looking at each other
I watched this film again with my grandfather who is a recovering alcoholic. He noticed a lot of things that I have never seen and all my viewings. The fact that there is no last final drink in alcoholism, the final pub sinking into the ground like a draining glass, mirrored by the therapy session, becoming a beer in the beginning. He made this interesting point if you watched only Nick frosts performance, the movie reads as a tragedy and honestly isolating his dramatic acting moments, part of the humor is that he is so sincere, but it also has a thematic relevance that this movie is about enabling and codependency. Nick plays Andy earnestly. He could be in another genre so completely- he even pointed out that and he being as disturbed that Gary hadn’t spoken to his mother in eight months as he was about the lie to get them there is about the insight that typically Gary is very close to his mom and the feeling of unease he is experience he is growing.
I'm crying 😭😭
(it's season 4 episode 3 btw)
I’m really curious how people interpret this scene: is Will shifting out of Gideon’s fear and suffering into his own or is it resentment that again he’s been sent unprotected into the mind of a killer?
Use your words instead of slamming the love of your life into a wall challenge. (failed x3)
going to therapy for being mentally unstable only for your therapist to be like “hey bro, what if you just killed people instead lowkey”
Hannibal really said CBT
Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham —Back view
Potential 02x06 spoiler? Slightly suggestive content too
I know this season has ✨issues✨ but I still had a great time.
Had to get the Gentlebeard wormies out of my system before getting back to work 😭 I'm so soft
(Ed gets the twink treatment, sorry I don't make the rules)
For the longest time I doubted my asexuality, simply because I found a sense of beauty in will graham. I never understood why, especially since I don't feel as strongly towards almost anyone else, so why will graham? I didn't even feel sexual/romantic attraction towards him, but something about him produces a reaction strong enough to make me doubt that fact.
I never understood this until after rewatching again recently, when I understood that it wasn't My perception of him I was reacting to, it was Hannibals. For most of the series, the show has followed in wills pov, but the narrative was mostly orchestrated by hannibal. Whenever we saw will at his most powerful, his most peaceful, his most godly states, we see it from hannibals eyes. And what we see, what He sees, is beautiful.
I felt the same thing, seeing him through hannibals eyes, as I did when I saw these paintings of humanity and fallen angels
I realized that the reaction I got from seeing will graham was hannibals reaction, likening him to great art personified. And that his perception of will graham was so potent that it stuck with me long after the show and affected how I see other people
i see a lot of fics where izzy will be forced to leave and/or kidnapped and then stede and the crew learn how much work he actually does to keep the ship afloat and i like those fics but they’re usually very serious so i propose:
a fic where izzy actually takes stede up on the idea of a vacation (maybe he goes to visit someone; a sister, a friend, etc) and at first stede is thrilled bc he’s like omg izzy is taking my advice (and if it’s s1 stede he’d probably be kinda petty and glad to not have him on the ship for awhile) and then learns a week into izzy’s vacation oh shit wow ummm izzy did do a lot around here
Cut to Izzy actually enjoying his vacation at Anne & Mary's, shit-talking his captains&crew, drinking his fill of rum, fooling around with CJ maybe, and generally thinking it might have been a good idea (he's never gonna admit it to Stede, no way, over his dead body) - then one morning BAM, the Revenge is there, the crew and captains loitering at the porch of the shack looking like a bunch of chastised preschoolers, avoiding eye contact and & all, "not that we like u or care or anything, but please come back, we actually have no clue what we're doing"
And Izzy's like "fuck off u twats, I'm on vacation" and slams the door in their faces.
the way the crew would look… not as cheerful as usual; Stede’s dressed down, Ed looks like he hasn’t slept, Lucius has a callus and he’s making sure everyone knows. Stede is trying to get him back using technicalities, like “I gave you a vacation, not a sabbatical .”
And because Izzy's an asshole and actually loves seeing Stede squirm (and a tiiiiny part of him would also like to hear Bonnet say he needs him), he actually hums like he's contemplating it and goes "hmm, a sabbatical, now that's interesting" as Stede looks at him in horror & starts to visibly sweat.
Mary, of course, stirs the pot with a well-timed 'Well, you're excellent with the books, and should you ever wish to retire from the seafaring life, I would gladly take you on to help manage the estate...'
Then, when Stede starts burbling protests, she shoots him a genteel smile and says 'Surely, darling, you're not upset at the thought of him running off and abandoning you and completely upending your life with no warning?"
Izzy is, at this point, sipping his tea with raised eyebrows and smirking.
The implication that Ed ALSO doesn't know what the fuck he's doing is also great. Izzy's like "I taught you all of this shit"
And Ed's like "Yeah, like twenty years ago! I haven't needed to use it!"
Izzy is so disappointed.
Anne and Mary are cackling that "Eddie got stupid"
my original thought was more that Ed is bad at teaching people to do things bc he just kinda… gets it. so he doesn’t understand why the crew isn’t figuring it out the way he can. now suddenly he’s playing teacher and feeling the effects of having a tiny crew and pulling everyone’s weight bc he’s one of maybe two competent sailors on board
but i like your idea bc it would make sense that over the years he’s gotten rusty. he just let Izzy handle all the tedious stuff and now he’s trying to remember which knot to use in this instance bc he hasn’t had to actually do it in 20 years
girls when ao3 is down...
I've been thinking about this line and the fact that we're presumably supposed to be reminded of Calico Jack here.
But it also absolutely describes someone else we know.
A friendless man with a beautiful singing voice who proudly wears a golden unicorn hoof as a prosthetic leg and embraces drag as a creative outlet the second he learns it's an option.
I'm just saying.
He's also skilled at visual arts! He whittled a pretty damn good shark for Lucius
This - especially considering the fact that Ed was not phased like everyone else was by his beautiful voice
