STAR TREK OC REDESIGNS AND STORY UNDER THE CUT!!!!!!!!!
YAYYYYYYY MY GUYS!!!! After 2 years of not having accurate references….. here they are <333 Ok so brief overview of the story: The U.S.S. Barry is a Starfleet vessel put into service directly after the Dominion War ends. Her mission is to survey the most war-torn areas of the Alpha Quadrant and find out what needs to be re-built and who needs aid. She is captained by T’Rova, who petitioned for this mission to be launched immediately. Unfortunately, the Barry has very little resources and an even smaller and inexperienced crew.
The crew!! (From top to bottom)
Breba - Ferengi boy the Barry picked up on a dilapidated space station. Orphaned by his parents, Breba distrusted the crew at the beginning, but has now latched onto Dave, the chief engineer, and has dreams of becoming an engineer himself.
Adem - Half human, half betazoid, Adem grew up on Betazed, and worked part time as a pilot for a Betazoid Transport. He liked to slack off and do nothing, but after Betazed was occupied by the Dominion, Adem found themself with a lot of angry energy and nowhere to put it. She joined Starfleet as soon as they could, and was fast-tracked onto the Barry as the pilot and communications officer.
Matos - A Bajoran who served in Starfleet before and during the Dominion War, Matos was ready to retire to Bajor immediately after the war ended, but was enticed by an offer from her old flame T’Rova for ‘one last mission.’ Matos is the opposite of T’Rova in personality, being laid back, fun loving, and quick to laugh and forgive. Their initial relationship with T’Rova didn’t work out because of that, but Matos is holding out hope they can rekindle something together.
Solar - A Vulcan who was at the tail end of earning his Agricultural Management Degree on Earth when the war broke out. As a firm pacifist, Solar did not care to join Starfleet or the Vulcan military. After the war ended, he heard about re-building efforts, and wanted to use his skills to help in a non-violent way. He’s now chief science officer aboard the Barry, but has little experience working beyond Earth and Vulcan.
Dave - Human, has two grown children on Earth, and has worked as a civilian engineer for most of his life. Dave saw the need for engineers, and quit his job to help out. Dave did not expect to be immediately cast as the chief engineer of the mission, but has tried to go with the flow and be flexible. He also did not expect to adopt another kid, but here he is.
T’Rova - Captain of the ship! Half Vulcan half Human, T’Rova has not been given the resources she needs for this mission, but is somehow holding it together anyway. This is both made easier and harder by having her ex, Matos, aboard. T’Rova is an experienced leader, but the war has taken a toll on everyone, including her. T’Rova has convinced herself she does not need rest, and that the work will keep her going.
Lowver - Vorta and Dominion Technology expert. Lowver was an engineer who defected from the Dominion near the end of the war, and who was promptly drafted into assisting Starfleet with the rebuilding efforts. She is terrified of making a mistake and being sent back to the Dominion, and is paranoid and nervous around other people. Working with Dave and Matos has helped her slightly, but she continues to be withdrawn and skittish around the rest of the crew.
Miyar - A Cardassian geneticist who left Cardassia early into the war, Miyar is secretly an ex-Obsidian Order agent who sought safety with the Federation after the collapse of the Order. Now, Miyar finds herself wanting to return to Cardassia, and what better way to do so than hidden within plain sight on a Starfleet mission to the area? Unfortunately, Miyar did not expect to be with such a small crew, and has been promoted to Interim Chief Medical Officer due to the actual medical officer backing out at the last minute. Miyar is secretive, selfish, and unhappy about a lot of things.
Cara - A Jem’Hadar solider, Cara actually isn’t with the crew of the U.S.S. Barry, but will brush with them further down the line. Cara is involved with an underground group of Dominion soldiers who want to continue to fight the war, headed by a manipulative Vorta. Cara wants more than the life he currently has, but finds himself stuck, not quite knowing how to get out.
CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS!!!!
Breba & Dave: Breba looks up to Dave a lot, and finds his patient and quiet personality soothing. Dave is worried he doesn’t know enough about Ferengi to properly parent Breba, but has grown very attached.
Breba & Adem: Breba thinks Adem is really cool but a little scary. Adem thinks Breba is annoying but ultimately lets him tag along shenanigans. They become fast friends.
Breba & Matos: Matos tries too hard to be kind and welcoming to Breba, which Breba finds off-putting. Breba tends to avoid her unless Matos is giving him sweets/candy. Matos sees this as a fun challenge to get Breba to like them
Breba & Solar: Solar initially had no interest in Breba, and thought it was a bad idea to keep him on board instead of sending him back to the federation for care. Breba however is obsessed with Solar and Solar’s hydroponics projects, and thus Solar has reluctantly begun to teach Breba about his work.
Breba & T’Rova: Breba is intimidated by the captain and mostly avoids her, T’Rova is similarly off put by Breba, but feels it is her duty to attempt to have a good relationship with him. They sometimes have a very tense and quiet lunch together along with Dave.
Breba & Lowver: Initally Breba did not like her, finding Lowver to be whiny and not very fun. Once Dave explained Lowver’s situation, Breba has been practicing being kind and more patient with her. Lowver doesn’t understand his behavior, and generally finds children to be scary and difficult to talk to, but she’s slowly warming up to him.
Breba & Miyar: they fucking hate each other. One of Breba’s first actions when he came aboard was to bite the shit out of Miyar, who still hasn’t forgiven him. Miyar finds him a liability and Breba finds her creepy and sinister.
Dave & Adem: Dave likes Adem, but they remind him a bit too much of his kids, so Dave is sometimes accidentally patronizing or gives Adem advice she doesn’t want. Adem thinks Dave is too soft to be on the mission, and feels resentful of how calm he can be after the war.
Dave & Matos: They get along like a house on fire!! Matos and Dave have very similar senses of humor. They work very well together.
Dave & Solar: Dave likes Solar but finds Vulcans ‘slightly hard to read,’ and thus is a little awkward with him, whereas Solar, who has spent a good amount of time on Earth, can very clearly see when Dave is slightly uncomfortable around him. Solar does not consider this his problem. Dave is happy that Solar has taken an interest in teaching Breba about his work.
Dave & T’Rova: Dave thinks she’s intense and needs more rest, T’Rova thinks he’s competent at his work but she worries he’s too emotional or easily attached. They have a respectful working relationship.
Dave & Lowver: She’s scared of him as he’s technically her superior in the chain of command. Lowver calls him ‘sir,’ which Dave keeps asking her not to do. Dave feels really bad for her as a person but has slight resentment for her as a vorta, which he also feels guilty about. Lowver keeps trying to guess what behavior he wants from her, while Dave is just trying to be gentle and give her the support he thinks she needs.
Dave & Miyar: Dave is really really trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but he’s very unhappy with having her as CMO because he doesn’t trust her. Miyar does not give a shit about what he thinks of her, as she sees him as a bumbling idiot. They try not to interact with each other.
Adem & Matos: Adem thinks Matos is the funniest person he’s ever met. They’re constantly making jokes together on the bridge which pisses T’Rova off. Matos can tell Adem is not doing great emotionally and is slowly trying to get them to talk about it.
Adem & Solar: Adem has a weird stupid crush on Solar which makes her angry. Solar thinks of Adem as a respectable co-worker. They’re also roommates.
Adem & T’Rova: Adem has slight authority issues and sometimes has difficulty taking an order without asking why, which T’Rova really doesn’t enjoy. Overall T’Rova thinks he’s a competent pilot but a shitty comms officer. Adem respects her but also wants her to get off their ass about ‘protocol,’ and ‘Starfleet regulations.’
Adem & Lowver: Adem tries her best to stay away from Lowver because of the psychic blast of anxiety that radiates off of her wherever she goes. Lowver thinks Adem hates her and is going to kill her.
Adem & Miyar: Adem thinks she takes herself too seriously, and is offput by how little emotion they can sense from her, but generally thinks she’s just a weird nerd. Miyar is slightly concerned about the extend of Adem’s telepathic abilities, and thus keeps a closer eye on Adem than other crew members.
Matos & Solar: Matos is reminded of T'Rova by Solar’s stubbornness, and thus likes him very much. Matos makes Solar slightly uncomfortable, as he expects them to act ‘like a commander,’ and is confused when she acts more free-spirited and impulsive. Matos enjoys hanging out with Solar in the hydroponics bay.
Matos & T’Rova: Oh boy. T’Rova is mad at herself for dragging Matos into this mission, and wishes things had been different between them. T’Rova won’t say it, but she has dreamed about settling down with Matos wherever they want, and just being able to relax. She still loves her, but she doesn’t know how to express it. Matos is at first delighted when T’Rova reaches out, but as she realizes what the mission requires, they get a bit worried that this mission will put more strain on their relationship than it can handle. Matos wants to get back together, but doesn’t know if T’Rova is ready. Matos still continues to be themselves, outgoing and energetic, which T’Rova is both exhausted and relived by, because at least someone is still happy. Eventually they talk about their feelings. Eventually.
Matos & Miyar: Matos is the only one on the ship Miyar is actually scared of. Matos can still pack a punch despite her age and has not hesitated to put Miyar in her place whenever she steps out of line. Miyar tries to stay out of their way. Matos does not get angry easily, but is furious that a Cardassian was allowed on this mission, and considers it a disgrace to Starfleet.
Matos & Lowver: Matos doesn’t quite know what to make of Lowver. She initially wants to dislike her, but Lowver continues to remind her of a small, nervous animal. Matos keeps inviting Lowver to tea and meditation, which Lowver goes along with for fear of causing offense. After a few sessions, Lowver feels more at ease with Matos than any other crew member.
Solar & T’Rova: T’Rova is harder on him than the other crewmembers, partially because she sees herself in him. T’Rova wants him not to make the mistakes she did. Solar assumes this, and thinks they’re nothing alike because he’d never enact the violence she did during the war. Solar wants to feel resentment for her, but after seeing how much stress she’s under, he just feels bad for her. They tried meditating together and it did not work.
Solar & Miyar: Solar doesn’t like her but keeps it professional. Miyar does not care about him in the slightest and does not hide it. She keeps forgetting his name and calling him ‘Solkar.’
Solar & Lowver: Their first interaction was in the hydroponics bay, which Lowver enjoys spending time in. Lowver feels less anxious around Solar, but still feels she has to keep her guard up. Solar tolerates her, and thinks she’s good at her job.
T’Rova & Miyar: Miyar does not respect her, and considers T’Rova too ‘mentally unstable’ to properly captain a ship, which is good for Miyar because it means she can get away with doing underhanded experiments in med bay, and eventually escape to Cardassia. T’Rova thinks Miyar is a liability, but has too much on her plate to really keep an eye on her. T’Rova plans to have her replaced as soon as possible.
T’Rova & Lowver: T’Rova initially rejected Lowver’s position on the ship on the grounds that Lowver needed extensive therapy and recovery before attempting to assist with rebuilding, but Starfleet Command forced her to take Lowver on. Lowver does not know this, and is terrified of T’Rova due to her position as captain. T’Rova doesn’t know how to handle a subordinate being scared to tears of her, and is trying to give Lowver space.
Miyar & Lowver: Miyar thinks it’s funny to toy with Lowver, and enjoys making her afraid. Miyar is instantly so sadistic about having a person she can manipulate without consequences on board. Lowver tries to avoid Miyar whenever possible, and hasn’t figured out that she is allowed to report Miyar’s behavior.
