It just occurred to me that in Jax's adventure, Caine tailor makes everything to his liking. Everyone but Pomni gets a whole brief. Jax predetermines a whole sequence of events that culminates in Gangle exploding.

But in Ragatha's adventure, nothing makes sense to her. The rules are all changed, Gangle doesn't get an evil clone, Caine does nothing about Jax and Zooble not playing along, nobody knows what's happening.

This is hilarious because we know that Jax is a sore loser who always wants what he wants and Ragatha's obsessed with everything being fair all the time. It's so perfect. I don't think there's a rabbit hole to go down here, it's just comedy gold.

I dont think there was an actual Abel. I wholeheartedly think that Scratch could be considered a metaphorical Abel, abstraction being the invention of the sin of murder. Caine discovering the power of abstraction, with Scratch as his accidental (or intentional) sacrifice.

But more importantly, I think its important that there is no Abel. The only reason Cain is written of in the Bible is to describe the creation of murder. To very poorly summarize it, one might say that without his brother, Cain has no purpose. And TADC's ringmaster is no different. So much of Caine's personal subplot is about his purpose, or lack thereof, and there not being an actual Abel character is an important part of that. Something is missing in Caine's story, leading to a purpose being missing as well.
