i need to talk about descendants wicked wonderland and give my review (SPOILERS ALERT) ❤️🩵
just wanna say that this is one of the best descendants movies, its so good!!! i love everything about it, the soundtrack is great, the cast is amazing and with great chemistry, the set designs?? PERFECT
of course, there were a few things i didnt like, but there were so many more good things about it, but lets go part by part:
he script is really good, it has a proper story, with beginning, middle and ending well structured (unlike rise of red)
the set designs are gorgerous, i loved their take on wonderland, the practical sets and the cgi are the best ones of the entire franchise
red and chloe individual arcs are really good, loved each one, especially red who was so used to being a vk that even when trying to act like a hero she goes towards the vks as if shes trying to belong in their group
and chloe whole arc about feeling out of place because of red and because of her mother, since she now got know cinderella in her teenhood and how much shes changed, it helped a lot when she became evil (more about evil chloe later)
the songs are really good! i really liked them, they had different styles and melodies, they were a great upgrade from ror ('dancing with the enemy' and 'for once in my life' >>>>>>>>>>>>>>)
the queen of hearts and cinderella scenes were really sweet and cinderella and chloe relationship is very well developed
chessy is surprisingly a fun character, i love how she creates chaos among the group
talking about the group, i really liked how they all had - even if a lil bit - of relevance, screentime and lines (unlike ror characters, omg i really dont like the last movie)
red and luis relationship is really cute and well developed, really liked them as a couple (still a stronghat stan tho) and their duet is the best song of the movie
i love how they managed to make the queen of hearts say her iconic 'off with their head' line (still makes me wish ror ended with her being evil, but red manages to convince her to let the past go and open her heart for love and all, but thats just me)
you can clearly see they cared to create a good story and took all the criticism from the last movie and make it better now, everything is so much better
the biggest issue with the movie is about the pacing, the movie is kinda fast and sometimes it feels rushed yet manages to tell the story (again, its well structured) and that being said, there are a few scenes that could benefit from a few more minutes
cinderella and the queen of hearts duet is very sweet, but i feel like they shouldve had a few more dialogue lines about their teenhood and how much they have grown and changed
chloe becoming evil is justified, but she accepts way too quickly, i think they couldve added 1 or 2 scenes with max so they could create a better connection so it would be more believable her being convinced to wear the bracelet
pink was a good surprise to me, but she could be more, like there was no moment in the movie she questions reds sudden change like there was no 'what happened to you?' (also, i think 'who i am' shoulve been a red solo, not a red and pink duet at the end)
i wish we had a proper interaction between fairy godmother and cinderella, they were in a few scenes together, but always talking to someone else, not each other (i need them to talk to each other 😭)
the scene were cinderella decides to go to wonderland and there is a member of the castle staff couldve been fairy godmother btw
i really loved maddox as a villain, but sometimes he was trying too hard to act evil
also, i wish we couldve seen his relationship with max, they barely interact, it would be easier to see why max doesnt want to be like his father and later want to change the timeline
SILLY THINGS THERE ARE EITHER GOOD OR BAD I WANT TO SAY:
the script trying to tell us luis wants red when he and max are flirting the entire time, i know max wants that cookie so bad!!!
felix and robbie definitely hooked up in that tea cup (i love them so much)
hazel hook and chloe kiss when??
also hazel dynamic with the smee twins (they ever call them by their 1st name??) is so fun to watch!! i love them so much
the twins are such a cute and fun duo btw
i laughed so much when they showed luis tattoo i wasnt expecting that
i loved everytime fairy godmother was on screen (underrated icon)
wish we had more scenes with charming
hazel you are such a diva, you would love sabrina carpenter music videos where a man dies
still dont like cinderella and the queen of hearts costumes, but at least they were an upgrade from last movie
also, loved them talking about how they shouldve been friends with prince phillip but bridget had a crush on gaston
anyway, i think thats it! i really love that movie and even tho i had some criticism about it, it was a fun watch and ill sure watch it more times!
