“Shit. That’s rough man,” Tor said, casting a sympathetic glance at Alaire. Grasping for something comforting to say failing, he grimaced and looked away quickly. “Sorry you’re dealing with that.”

“Early twenties.” He shot back, glad the change in subject was here to save him from his empathetic failure. “And yeah, I know I look older. Most people put me at 27, 28 or something.”

“Which definitely made things fun when I was still livin’ in Vegas. Didn’t even get carded grabbing a drink after work, though to be fair showing up in uniform helped. Folks assume the casino staff is old enough to actually be there, y’know?”

"I honestly wouldn't be the greatest at discerning what people look like at what age, if I'm going to be honest." Alaire speaks with a soft, almost awkward chuckle. "I mean, at a certain point it's obvious- but still. I'm a little oblivious to certain things or.. new to certain things." Like getting carded for anything - hasn't had that happen yet. Hasn't done anything to require it yet though either.

"What's Vegas like? I heard it's very loud." Which is just about all he knows about it so far. More than he knows about a lot of places, really. At least Alaire enjoys learning new things. Though he does hate when people make him feel stupid for not being aware of something just because it's common.. feeling like you have to tell your life story to strangers so they understand is so exhausting, he feels.

It's always easier to interact with the people he's currently living with and the building that helped look after him post his freedom though he knows he needs to branch out. Meet new people and all that. One of the reasons he's here. Well, that and Tor seemed nice enough. He wouldn't just go hang out with anyone. Which some might think otherwise considering how easy it seemed to be for Tor to invite him along.

"I feel like most cities would be though.." Especially if you were like him and had sensitive hearing.

the quiet purring from mapplethorpe only seems to grow louder whenever he mentions that purple is his favorite color. ( he knew that, of course. it's one of the reasons why he wished he was purple. ) he's not thinking that because he doesn't think he's alaire's favorite person. oh, he knows. he just wants to be everything that alaire loves, as silly as that sounds.

his tail sways back and forth as he relaxes again, a loud yawn to follow as he turns his head to look back over to alaire. ( he's glad that he's agreed to go to the kitchen with him. ) he didn't trust eco and oz yet but alaire seemed to be okay with them--... and he trusted alaire. he can't help but grin, quick to hop onto his feet and his ears start to twitch rapidly. he'll reach out to grab at alaire's hand, hopping on his feet slightly.

he'll tug at alaire's arm as he turns off the console, clicking his tongue on the roof of his mouth. he'll roll his eyes, a huff leaving him. "fine. no messes, i'll be quiet. what kind of food do you think they have? any sweets? i want something sweet,"

It's not so much that Alaire trusts them a whole lot yet. It's more that.. well, they don't have much of a choice and it's not like he doesn't think he could defend himself if need be. After all, Alaire had taken out a fair amount of the lab all on his own before Oz and Eco showed up. However, if they want food and shelter, it's best to cooperate at least for now. Alaire never fully trusts anyone. How could he?

"Not sure," Alaire leads him off and into the kitchen where he flicks the light switch on before moving to open up the fridge. "I'm sure we can find something you'll like." Oz did mention something about tending to keep the fridge and cabinets stocked, so he'd be surprised if they didn't find something. "I don't really know what a lot of things are yet." Seeing as how Alaire had been kept much longer, it's no surprise he's unaware of various foods. His memory of things before isn't great. Mostly static.

As he'd said, there is plenty in the fridge. He's just not sure where to even begin in figuring out what's what. He knows things like sandwich meat and the like, of course, but branded foods and snacks that were processed? He'd never really been exposed to them much.

it doesn't take long for mapplethorpe to get ready for his day. he simply traded his grey sweats and large sleep shirt for a pair of tan cargo shorts and a large shirt that happened to have one of his favorite anime characters on it. ( satoru gojo is absolutely king, okay? don't argue this! ) he'll look at himself in the mirror with tired as as he combs his fingers through his currently unruly curls, trying to calm them. ( he tried not to use a brush if necessary, considering it makes his curls more puffy than anything. )

his skateboard is his point of travel, shaving off about eleven minutes of travel time if he had just walked. ( sure, there is a chance that he could absolutely beef it before his carnival date but who cares? ) it's not the first time he's shown up with a skinned knee or elbow and it certainly wouldn't be the last! thankfully, he doesn't show up at the door with any scrapes or bruises on his person ( just the ones left over from previous falls that week. )

he's quick to give alaire's mother a grin, even a bit of an awkward hug as he stands awkwardly at the door, skateboard in hand. a grin spreads across his features as he sees alaire, midnight blue eyes scanning over him quickly before they stop at his face. "you look so good!" he'll squeal, leaning into the kiss to his cheek before he wraps his arm around his middle. "it's up to you, babes. it's your day 'n not mine. take the reins!"

Cheeks darken slightly in a blush at the compliment. Seems even now, Mapplethorpe's compliments still made him shy. Considering all they've done together, you think he'd be completely over it by now, but nope! Apparently not. "I know, I just.. you know me." Alaire just tended to do whatever Mapplethorpe felt like unless there was something in particular he really felt like doing.

"Hm.. maybe go ahead and head out?" His head tilts slightly as he voices the thought, eyes blinking a few times "I feel like we'll wanna eat if we wait.. and how can we fill up on snacks while we're out if we're already full?" Alaire jokes a little, laughing softly. "But really, I'm honestly fine with either."

now, worrying was something that mapplethorpe rarely ever did. if he worried? well, he probably had a pretty good reason for it. ( at least, in his mind it's a good reason. ) though, one thing you need to know about mapplethorpe, no matter the life or time period, he's always a little bit delusional and there is no telling him otherwise. ( delusional to you! ) right now, mapplethorpe was trying his best not to think too much. he's high as a kite and he just wants the love of his life in his arms. is that too much to ask? ( that's what alaire is--.... they don't need to do the awkward dance that is dating anymore. not after that kiss. )

his arms slide around him and his head rests against his chest. ( his heart is pounding against his chest. he knows that alaire can hear it. ) he knows that the sound was probably comforting, considering that at one point, neither of them had a heart beat whenever they would hold each other. he'll close his eyes for a brief moment, letting his high completely take him as his thumb brushes over alaire's shoulder over and over again. ( he likes to feel hold warm and solid he is. )

"i love you to infinity and beyond--.... or whatever buzz lightyear says,"

Alaire lets out a soft laugh at his words. A light in the anxiety and panic he'd been feeling for a bit now - that they've both been feeling. "Yeah, that's what he says." He confirms, letting out a soft sigh as he tries to allow himself to relax against his boyfriend. He knows he won't be able to fully because of the understandable stress of all this, but it doesn't mean he can't try and calm down at least a little.

"This is all so strange and weird to me, but.." He speaks, letting out another soft laugh though this one is more on the awkward side. "I mean - I guess I can't really complain now, can I?" Getting to be there with him again; alive. Alaire still isn't sure whether or not to think this is some dream or some strange for of afterlife they've managed to find himself in though whatever the case.. yeah, he's not complaining.
