Okay but for anyone who legit wants to know how to calculate it correctly:
The elbow joint on average rests a couple inches higher than the navel, so if you measure how long the distance is from the middle of the shoulder to that point then you have the length of the upper and fore arms!
So if anyoneās wondering about legs too, the simplest rule of thumb is that the length from the top of the leg to the knee is equal to the distance between the top of the leg and the bottom of the pectorals:
And I wanna stress that when i sayĀ ātop of the legā iām not talking about the crotch (please donāt flag me tumblr itās an anatomical term) iām talking about the point where the femur connects to the pelvis, which is higher up on the hips:
Itās easier to see what Iām talking about in this photo of a man squatting:Ā
So yeah if you use that measurement when using this technique you should get fairly realistically proportioned legs:
But remember! messing with proportions is an important and fun part of character design! Know the rules first so you can then break them however you please!
HOW THE HELL DID I FIND THIS POST OMG
Iām not an expert but I like hands a lot so hopefully some of this was helpful!

FREE ART PROGRAMS
So recently I came across a fellow artist who was struggling to find a free art program, and considering dropping the large amount of money for a Photoshop license. I know not everyone can afford such an expensive program, so Iāve compiled a list of programs with no cost to download and use.
Keep in mind all computers are different, so not all will work for everyone. Also, Iāve only ever used Windows, so for the most part, Iām not sure if everything will work for Mac. if in doubt check the website linked.
Photoshop CS2 - (Windows, not sure about Mac.)
FireAlpaca - (Windows and Mac)
Sketchbook Copic Edition - (Windows and Mac)
GIMP - (Windows) (Mac)
Paint tool SAI [cracked]Ā - (Windows) (Mac)
Paint tool SAI 2 beta - (tumblr post on said program)
iPaint - (Mac)
Paintbrush - (Mac)
Pencil - (Windows, Mac)
Paint.NET - (Windows)
Seashore [still in development, ver 0.5] - (Mac)
ChocoFlop - (Mac)
Inkscape - (Mac and Windows)
ArtRage [Demo] - (Mac and Windows)
OpenCanvas 1.1[must pay for 2.0] - (Windows, not sure about Mac.)
MyPaint - (Windows)
Krita - (Windows)
Vectorian [Supports Animation] - (Windows)
Pixia[Japanese, some English versions] - (Windows)
Asperite - (Windows)
Chasys Draw IES - (Windows)
SmoothDraw - (Windows)
TwistedBrush Open Studio - (Windows)
BOUNS - CTRL+Paint [Great for teaching all kinds of stuff, like how to use digital programs.]
If you know more free programs, please add onto this!
OpenToonzĀ has made many improvements since itās initial release! (Windows & Mac)
Medibang Paint is a comic drawing software forked from FireAlpaca mentioned earlier in this post, and is available for mobile devices as well! (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android)
Sharing is Caring :)
Autodesk sketchbook is free too ^^
Tho you have to buy the full version, but the free one is good for quick sketches
First of all, Iām not an art student/anatomy expert/seasoned professional so some of these methods might be pretty questionable and might not be the recommended way to go about drawing stuff
But anyway yeah hereās a bunch of things I bear in mind while drawing stuff and it helps to some extent. I learnt a bunch of these from some other art references online somewhere so I donāt claim credit for like discovering these amazing anatomical facts or somethingĀ
Hey more tips:
If you want to improve within a short amount of time you can use this nifty tool online:Ā http://www.quickposes.com/Ā It basically gives you a bunch of poses and you gotta draw them with a time limit and everything so I do that occasionally
Also Iāve got a weird obsession with drawing hands like theyāre one of my favourite things to draw somehow so if you wanna practice hands real quick then hereās what I recommend:
Ask your friends to give you a random hand gesture and sketch it out or like look at your own hand in crazy new poses and just draw thatĀ
Basically draw whatever hands you see around you
Late night Naruto! :)
Sorry for the inactivity! Been working on some Studio Ghibli landscape studies. Maybe Iāll feel good enough about them to postš Thanks for your patienceš
A weird version of MC? I guess you gotta start somewhere hahaš
May I ask who your favorite MM characters are?
Ummm hmmm....that is a great question. Haha I would have to go with Saeyoung I think. Cause he makes Harry Potter references all the time (potterhead 4 lyfeš¤š¼) and I love when it gives you the chance to joke around in the chat room with him! A lot of the things he does remind me of my boyfriend in real life soš But I also love the contradiction that is Jumin - his highly civilized world and his innocence when it comes to the things he doesnāt know. But I love Vās whole aesthetic. And Yoosungās innocence. And Zenās loyalty. And Jaeheeās dedication...And I could literally go on forever because theyāre all amazing and innocent aAND ARE ALL WORTHY OF A GOOD ENDING.ššThanks for your ask!!!!šššplease feel free to ask any time!! Sorry I wrote you a book haha
Love me some Saeyoung and JihyunšI especially like how V turned out. Some quick sketches -> line art! First attemptšŖš¼ Also I canāt draw glasses haha
