So I actually sketched this a couple months back and scrapped it. Then I was cleaning out my scrapped folder this week and thought I’d finish this one. Glad I did - it was fun :)

Similar to this drawing, this is based on the Greg-adopts-Spinel AU from the lovely fanfic Third Time’s the Charm, but not actually a scene from the fic. The story hinted at Steven and Spinel developing a sibling relationship on top of Spinel’s dad-daughter relationship with Greg, so of course I couldn’t resist drawing these three at some point in their hypothetical future as a happy family. As before, this AU belongs to RangerLauren and is very much not mine, and if you like this concept, please do give the fic a read.

I’ve wanted to make a sequel to this drawing for a while now, but nothing worked until this popped into my head on Sunday. And then I spent two days furiously drawing it out so I could post it for the anniversary. Because I have no sanity. XD

Like the last one, very abstract and metaphorical, so read into the symbolism as you like.

“Hey, Spinel! I was just about to have some breakfast. You want some?”

“Yay!!”

Just some cute sibling-esque antics with Steven and baby!Spinel. I’ve seen several AUs where the rejuvenated version of Spinel ends up living with Steven - either because she never got her memories back, was rejuvenated again, or something else entirely. So this takes place in one of those - you can decide which, haha.

This also apparently takes place in an AU where teen!Steven still likes together breakfast. Because it’s perfect for sharing. XD

As suggested above, this is a big bro/little sis relationship and very platonic, so please don’t tag as ship.

One of my favorite annual events is the Lantern Fest - there are different versions all around the world, and yes, the ones I’ve attended are very similar to the lantern release in Tangled. My local event usually occurred around October/November, and there are really no words for how stunning and moving it is to watch thousands of lanterns go up in the sky.

Since that won’t be happening this year, I wanted to let Spinel enjoy it instead. :)

What is Peridot so excitedly pointing to? You decide. XD

This is sometime post-Change Your Mind, pre-movie. These two have some work to do rebuilding their friendship (more healthily this time), but they'll get there - Peridot is just happy to have Lapis back, and Lapis is happy Peridot is giving her a second chance.

Despite the bridal-esque carry, this is intended as platonic - I stick with storyboard artist Maya Petersen’s statement of Peridot being aro-ace. Honestly, I was going to draw Peridot piggy-backing, but it kept looking weird with her big triangle hair and Lapis’s wings, and I figure this happened after Lapis tossed her into the air and then caught her, haha. Anyway, if you want to view it as Lapidot, I’m not going to stop you, but please don’t tag as such.

The story behind my choice of scenery is actually more complex than just “I wanted to try painting the northern lights”: I discovered that one of the Gem War battlefields (the strawberry field) is in Norway, where the northern lights are often visible, so I figure these two must have seen them at least once around that time, but probably didn’t get the chance to enjoy them properly due to … y’know. The war. So I imagine them finding a nice, not-traumatic spot elsewhere in Norway where they can enjoy the northern lights in peace.

And be sweet and adorable. That too.

Hello! If you want, could you draw Lapis hanging out with Stevonnie?

This was so much fun. One of my favorites to work on in a while, for sure. I might have taken a slightly literal interpretation of “hanging out,” but Lapis flying with Steven is one of my favorite scenes, and now Stevonnie can join in on the fun!

I love Connie, and I loved seeing her grow into the incredible young woman she is at the end of the series. Maybe she’ll be more “down to earth” with her career pursuits, but you know she’s always gonna be amazing with a sword (and in general).

(This is not meant to be proper sword form or even a realistic pose, so ... yeah, don’t think too hard about that aspect of it. XD)

Bismuth appreciates her first sand dollar that Peridot picked up from the shore. Peridot prepares to cheerfully explain that it’s actually a dead sea animal. And Lapis just looks at her friends while she collects more seashells for them.

What’s this, me drawing SU characters other than Spinel? Apparently it’s possible. ;) Just a little post-Future snapshot of these three hanging out, because I love them.

(Also, Bismuth’s love of sand dollars reflects mine before my innocent young self realized they were … well … dead.)

I know this isn’t exactly an art blog and I don’t have many people following for drawings, but if you like my art and have a request, feel free to send it my way! I’m trying to get some practice drawing different characters, backgrounds, etc. I’ll do any SU character(s). Drawing for the lovely Greg-adopts-Spinel AU again, and again, the idea is not mine! This is a scene from Chapter 1 of Third Time’s the Charm by RangerLauren, when Greg offers to let Spinel stay with him for a while. The mental image of them on the hill by the lighthouse at sunset, Greg helping Spinel to her feet, was just too poignant for me not to draw.

Yes, I love drawing these two, and yes, I love drawing sunsets. XD

(Have I expressed strongly enough how completely 5000% platonic this is? Good.)

Oh look! Pain!

This literally just popped into my head at random and I finished it in just over 24 hours. I’ve been wanting to draw something more abstract with just Spinel and, well, this is what happened.

I’ve seen a ton of art depicting pre-garden and post-garden Spinel as entirely different beings (metaphorically or literally), and don’t get me wrong, I love those - especially Twinel stuff. But I also love the idea of seeing how adorable, innocent Spinel transformed into ... well, the angry goofball we saw in the movie, since they’re so starkly different. So this is my exploration of that, complete with way too much unintentional symbolism.

Spinel and Volleyball for a change! … well, kind of a change. XD

Outfits are shamelessly stolen from Black Butler: Book of Circus. I fell in love with these costumes years ago and kept wanting to draw them, so here’s Spinel in Ciel’s circus costume and Volleyball in Doll’s (with some palette adjustments). 

This can be platonic or romantic, take it however you like. :)

Aaaaaaand my final submission for @thestanbros Stan Twins event! Week 4: Lazy Day (I was too rushed to make something for Week 3, haha) - actual art this time, to switch things up! I know these two don’t usually wear matching clothes, but for Mabel sweaters, I think they’d make an exception. Yes, Ford is Best Grunkle #2, because Mabel knew Stan first and he will always be #1 for that. Doesn’t change how much she loves them both. ;)

“Look, Steven, Twizzler fingers!”

Yep, another Spinel drawing. XD With post-Future Steven this time! She dropped by for a visit and they’re watching a movie in whatever bed and breakfast he happens to be staying in. Steven is introducing her to Earth candy (yes, I did mix name-brand licorice with fake-brand chocolate) and she loves Twizzlers so much she imitates them. Long enough to make Steven laugh so she can steal some of the popcorn, at least. ;)

Though I definitely think these two were not the best match for friendship during the movie, due to their respective traumas and issues, I like to think about them developing a sibling-esque relationship once they’ve both had time to heal on their own. Even though she’s way older, I think Spinel would be the best goofy/annoying little sis.

So Steven and Spinel’s big bro/little sis relationship in @celestialalpacaron‘s Diamond Spinel AU is one of my favorite things ever, and the “Here Comes a Thought” background in this comic in particular is just gorgeous, so ... here’s some fanart with both.

Is this actually happening or is it just a metaphor for Steven wanting to help and Spinel needing it but refusing to ask? Who knows! XD

Yeah, this AU crushes me in the best/worst way, because Spinel, honey, what the Diamonds are doing is not okay, but she’s not going to ask for help because she still loves them. And poor Steven knows something is wrong but there’s not much he can do if she doesn’t tell him. Ouch. Just ouch. Beautiful story, but so much pain.

Someone help me I can’t stop drawing Spinel (don’t actually help me, I’m having way too much fun).

Another with her and Greg! Unlike the previous two, this isn’t technically a scene from that wonderful fanfic Third Time’s the Charm by RangerLauren, but just something I kept picturing within that world. Since Greg adopts Spinel in this AU and she’s already been shown to adore his music, I couldn’t help but imagine him buying her a little pink ukelele and teaching her how to play it. And also her finding one of his old Mr. Universe T-shirts and wearing it because she’s a fan. (And also because Spinel in giant T-shirts is adorable … and no, I don’t know where her shoulder pads went. They look weird with a giant T-shirt, okay.)

My first time painting a sunset! If only the lighting didn’t look so much duller on my computer monitor compared to my iPad … XD
