he could feel beth calm down with his touch, but still he felt horrible knowing that all of this upset her so much. “give him time, love. he’ll understand eventually and he’ll learn to be happy for you.” matthew could only hope that the words he told beth were true, that her father wouldn’t keep on resisting him just because he didn’t fit his idea of the perfect guy for beth. “of course. let’s go. want to pick up something good for dinner on the way?”

she nodded to matt’s words, hoping that her father will actually move on from this and give matthew another chance, but as long as he doesn’t say he’s sorry to matt she’s going to be very angry at him. beth lost her appetite but she shrugged. “i’m not so hungry but we can stop by if you want to grab something for yourself.” she said as she started to walk beside him to the car. beth was really over thinking everything right now, she knew her father will be able to make her drown in work just because he wouldn’t like her going out with matt, but that was going to be another argument.

beth was outside, smoking her cigerette as she heard her blonde wasted friend singing some terrible music, but yet catchy of course. beth took another Inhalation from the cigarette and couldn’t hold her laugh. beth was leaning on a wall and she just stared at her friend. “i’d rather have pretty woman playing along. can you make it happen?” beth joked of course. “okay you’re drunk so you might think i’m sierous. don’t do that, but you can join me here.”

As close as the two were, Toni swore to herself that she needed to get through this without hinting that her life was completely in shambles. She only hoped that she had the strength to do it. Beth and Toni didn’t exactly share the most personal information so it should be easy, right? Luckily, the woman was picking up an order that she had called ahead for, which minimized the amount of time she needed to wait there any longer. Following behind Beth, she picked up her own items off of the counter. “Perfect, I’ll make a straight shot back to my place and I’ll meet back up with you at yours,” she smiled excitedly. “I won’t start without you as long as you don’t start without me,” she teased. Not exactly like either could anyway – they needed one another. “I can’t wait to see your place,” she admitted as she found herself making her way to the door.

beth smiled at the woman and nodded. “the party doesn’t start ‘till you walk in.” she tried to make in sound like the song tiktok by kesha, beth would be lying is she’ll say she didn’t miss toni, something about her company always made beth filled with grace. “i’ll see you in the other side!” beth said as she walked out of the bakery and went to her car. SKIP

beth walked into her house leaving her keys on her hanger on her close wall from the door. she went to her alcohol cabin and sure she had enough stuff there for a typical hang out for beth and toni. beth went to change her work clothes to some cotton little dress, she opened her laptop to work a little until she’ll hear a knock on her door.

“thank you so much,” charlotte said as she reached out to take the glass of water in her hand before lifting it to her lips. “believe in the power of water to make the less healthy stuff disappear as it enters our body,” charlotte said with a chuckle. “only that’s just not the way things go in life. which is a disappointment really,” she said with a small shrug of her shoulders. “the fact that you’re trying is enough. old beth wouldn’t have held her horses before speaking now, would she?” lottie  questioned,, knowing the way her friend used to act before. “please, why wouldn’t he choose you? you’re gorgeous, intelligent, a wonderful woman… you’re perfect, beth. i mean it!” charlotte could never understand why beth didn’t believe in herself the way she should. “yeah, it’s hard to live in someone’s shadow, but you’ll get there eventually. i know you will.” with a loud chuckle, charlotte shook her head. “he will know i found him before you do. because you bet i will let him know the second i recognize him,”

beth nodded as she took another sip from her water at lottie’s comment. it was funny to see how lottie and beth get along, she always admired that little woman. how in high school she might’ve looked little but man you wouldn’t want to mess with that little girl. “oh no she wouldn’t, she wouldn’t stop until she’ll make the other person and cry.” beth shook her head and sighed. she wasn’t sorry for who she was back then, she was a girl who wanted to have anything in any way possible, there’s nothing woring with that. “oh please lottie i’m not perfect, i try to be but i’m not.. “ beth shook her head again as she spoke. “let’s say that i know that i’m all this stuff, but with all that-- i have my flaws and need to work on them.” beth added. “i hope so too.” she replied to lottie’s words. beth let out a laugh and gave her friend a wide smile. “can’t wait for him to tell me he met you, sounds like a good story.”

at the mention of her friend having  stuff to tell her, emma grinned and nodded, grabbing her friend’s hand to lead her to her office, but making sure to be careful with the coffee in her hand. “say no more,” she beamed as she led the way, closing the door behind them as soon as they were inside. she waved her hand at the topic beth was trying to bring up, “oh no, that’s not important. work work and one night stands, you know me. now you, tell me everything.”

beth let herself be leaded by her friend and she entered to emma’s office. she did want to know more about emma’s life, since she’s one of the few people she really cared about, but since beth had to let all out she just waited for emma to let her talk. she couldn’t even sit since she was so upset and emberssed by what her father did to her and to matthew of course. “so my parents met matt, and i think matt doesn’t want anything to do with my family.” beth said with a sigh at the end. putting her hands on her waist, traveling in emma’s office. “and i’m trying to get away from my father cause all he does now is give more and more work to keep me busy.” she added, she was frustrated. “i mean there’s nothing wrong with matt, he is so nice and charming-- god emma you should’ve seen my father face when matt told him about his daughter.”

sam nodded, a proud smile on his face to go along with it. “yeah, of course. it’d be crazy if nothing stuck, don’t you think?” he pointed out, the two practically being the same person at some point in their lives. as they grew quiet, he wasn’t sure whether to keep quiet and just let her go about her day, but at the pace the line was moving, he wouldn’t be able to stand the awkward silence for long so he tried to continue. “how’s matt?”

“yeah -- now i know that something right i was doing after all.” she said with a small laugh at the end. always looking at sam would make her go back to a younger beth, it was fun to see it sometimes. but sometimes she likes to forget about her younger self. “matt?” she asked as she pressed her lips and she thought about the other day when he met her father, she let out a sigh and faked a smile. “fantastic.”

“oh come on, why not? i learned from the best. known you for so many years, don’t you think you’d rub off on me?” sam responded sarcastically, chuckling some. even if the two weren’t exactly friends, they’re still have that banter. it was something that always existed, no matter what the circumstance was. it was time like these where he didn’t know if she was serious or just playing with him as usual.

taking another step in the line, just wanting to get over with the order already she looked over at sam. “oh--” beth let out a laugh. “look at that, somehow i got my comments under your skin that you memorize it? fair enough for me.” beth said with a smirk, if that didn’t make beth feel good, she had this proud grin on her face. beth didn’t know how to continue their little chit chat so she just nodded, not knowing what to do.

“oh, i know. i miss you! we need to get out and catch up some,” emma pointed out with a smile. she then gave a little sarcastic laugh and shook her head, “yeah, if i know your father he will definitely find something for you to do.” it was true, especially now that beth seemed to be going somewhere with matt, her father seemed to try keeping her busy more than usual. “i should be fine though, i just have to organize some papers and put them away before getting out of here myself. how are things?”

beth let out a small laugh, now they looked like sixteen years old, just the screaming and the sobbing over each other is missing. “we do need to catch up, because i got burnt from the tea i have to tell you.” beth said taking a sip from her coffee. “let’s go to your office?” she asked, emma’s office was nearby so she thought it would be quick before someone being them more work than they already have. “but first tell me about your busy days.” beth said.

at her words, sam chuckled and shook his head. even though he knew they wouldn’t be friends like other times, he wasn’t sure what to expect when running into her. it was a small town and that would happen often, as much as they would try to avoid each other. it simply wouldn’t be easy. “not stalking you, that’s for sure. maybe you’re the stalker,” he teased, even if she returned her attention towards the front, he kept speaking, knowing she could hear him.

she rolled her eyes at him and let out a dry laugh. “oh come on sam, don’t use my witty comments on me. i know you can do better.” she said looking back at the guy. people could take a popcorn and watch the two have witty comments to each other, that was most of the fun when they were together, who could silence the other first? that was always the question.

There was hardly anything said between them and that was enough for them. Beth knew exactly what Toni needed – what the two of them really needed, actually. The time and space to be with one another with no distractions. A place where they could literally be – say terrible human beings, for lack of a better phrase. They could talk shit about others, fully knowing that the other wouldn’t judge them. Toni nodded, “I think that’s great. Can’t think of a better way to spend my night. It’s a good thing I made a stop at the liquor store before coming,” she laughed. 

maybe they weren’t the cup of tea of most of people that went with them in high school, but it wasn’t their problem since the two could just come naked to school and not even think about what people would say, they had the guts and that’s what was awsome about them. beth nodded with a small laugh at her friend comment. “good thing i have just the right cups for it in my house.” beth joked and paid for her things at bake it off. “alright then, you have the same number? i’ll send you my address.”

“some water would be great actually! need to wash it all down with something that’s good for the body, you know?” charlotte replied with a giggle, watching as beth brought the drinks for them. “the important thing is that whatever you do, you do it for yourself. not because you feel like you have to. but knowing that he’s bringing out the best of you… that’s amazing, beth. it really is.” charlotte was truly happy for her friend. even if all those years ago she dated her brother, knowing that she had moved on and found a man who made her happy delighted the caine. “well, then you take things as they come. but there are so  many more things to life than just work, beth,” she added, knowing that work often was too big a part of life that it overshadowed the importance of other things. “i’ll have to keep my eyes out then. overanalyse all my costumers until i spot him.”

“water for the lady then.” beth said as she brought up the drinks for the girl sitting across her. “and yeah i totally understand, that’s why i always drink one cup of water before and after i eat. it’s very healthy.” she said with a small laugh. thinking about all the sweet she ate, isn’t very much healthy. she sat down back in her chair while she drank her cup of water. “sometimes it doesn’t work, like people tease me and not in a good way but i try to hold my horses before i speak.” beth joked. “i just feel like he could date any girl believe me, and he chose me. i thought i’m not worthy, but i’m doing this to prove myself that i am.” she admitted with a small shy smile. beth never felt in her life not worthy, but well.. what love can do to you. “you’re right, but i need to make my name. like i need to make it as beth shuster and not just as the daughter of shuster, i’m doing this slowly but it a hard work. “let me know when you’ll find him.” beth chuckled.

his neck bent slightly so that he could reach down and press a soft, reassuring kiss to beth’s lips. he was angered by the encounter, but he was certain that beth felt upset and hurt by the way it went. and that made it all even worse. “you don’t need to be embarrassed. it was his doing, not yours. i know you had the best intentions in mind, but don’t be so hard on yourself, okay? promise me.”

she was happy to feel matt’s lips on her’s, it made her calmer than ever. knowing the guy could have that effect on her, she was so grateful to have him. “but he is my father, after all i thought he would understand.” beth repeated herself with another sigh leaving her mouth. “let’s just get out of here, i just want wanna be be at my own home.” she said, it wasn’t hard to notice how upset beth was.

It had been an impromptu trip; one meant to find solace in being alone. After having felt so crowded, all Freya wanted was to be away from everybody. But she couldn’t help but approach the only other figure on the empty beach, having recognised her from run-ins in town, or when she would come into the café. She was curious as to why they would be there, too. “It is nice out, isn’t it?” the blonde replied with a small smile, “You just have to enjoy it before Summer goes.” She waited a beat before holding forward a container of treats, “Want one? Self reflection tends to make me hungry.” 

it looks like the other was familiar but she couldn’t put her finger from where she saw the other. but still, she looked like someone she wouldn’t mind having around right now. “yeah i wish i could enjoy it more, i always miss out all this in the summer. there are lots of more cases in the summer. lots of ugly divorces. god knows why.” she said with a shrug. “thanks, but no i’m good.” she said putting her hand on her chest. “so you want to keep your mind off too?”

The way she got Beth’s attention, Tonimarie couldn’t lie upon how hilarious that she thought it truly way. And on top of it, the way that she accepted it with no questions ask, only reminded her why they were an unlikely pairing then, but potentially an unstopabble duo now. “I respect that – always what I’ve apprecaited about you. You never took the backway to get where you needed too,” she admired truthfully. Toni held onto the womans’ hugs around her, embracing the hug. “I actually am a ghost,” she dangled her hands in front of the other woman’s hands beore dropping them. “No, seriously – I get it. I know it must’ve been so weird seeing me here, right? Well, New York just wasn’t my fit anymore so I figured I’d try home again.,” she shrugged. 

what was best in toni and beth’s friendship was that the two had a different point of view on almost everything, and it helped them. helped see things in a way that they might not like, and get beth to see a different point of view in stuff was hard, and toni managed to do so. beth let out a chuckle and embraced her friend. she raised her brow at her friend and crossed her arms as the both let go of each other. “okay i think we should take this somewhere you’ll spill the wine as we drink wine. what do you say?” she asked opening her arms.

holding beth’s hand, matthew was finally relieved to be out of the house. beth’s family was completely different than his, he had known that from the start. still he had never imagined it would go this way, be a disaster from start to finish. he could feel himself relaxing the second they stepped outside, and his hands reached for the car keys, eager to get away from the place as quickly as possible. “you don’t have to apologize for his behavior, he’s a grown man who can apologize himself.” moving his hands to rest them on beth’s shoulders, he turned her around to face him. “beth, dear, look at me. i love you. that’s all that matters.”

beth felt so ashamed that matt had to face that, beth knows how hard her family is and remembers how her mother made one of her younger brother’s girlfriend run away just because she thought he hair wasn’t nice. but beth is older now, and she knows what she’s doing and she is held by the matt’s arms. a wise, fun man. she finds it really hard to believe that her father just acted that way towards the guy she loved. when she felt matt’s hands on her shoulders it was like she could breathe again, but yet she felt so bad of what he has to go through inside the house she grew up in. she looked up at him with a half smile. “i love you too.” she said as she placed her hand on his cheek. “yet, i’m so embarrassed, i thought it would be a good idea.” she said looking down again.
