Plein Airpril continues! the first third of the month is here... and I've been collecting my paintings on my wall!
And here we are, day 11, a cellophane bee photographed on an aster of some kind and then painted in gouache on wood panel:
and here's some studio shots of this one:
plein airpril day 12! a sunny, hazy day at the beach.
plein airpril day 13! This commemorates a one-eyed cat that lived in the same neighborhood as me when i first got my own place after undergrad. he never actually sent me on a quest into a second world, but he sure looked like he might if the circumstances were right.
plein airpril day 14! A snowy scene in the Annex in Toronto, originally photographed on film. I love when the sky is brighter than the snow even at night, it's such a quiet, muffled feeling.
#pleinairpril day 15 - the halfway point! excited to have hit this milestone this month and also, i am now well into the mysterious world of "what on earth should i paint next? - all my initial ideas and plans have been painted! which is why this is a painting of a window view, as you may notice!
happy plein airpril day 16! here's one of my favourite birds, the house sparrow, caught mid-landing. Yes I exaggerated the colours on this one. No, I regret nothing.
plein airpril day 17! More exaggerated colours on this swamp sparrow taking a bath in a puddle with some drenched goldenrod, from Bluffer's Park.
day 18! for making it past the plein airpril halfway mark, i treated myself to a few new tubes of gouache in some useful greens, and also grabbed more cheap and useful brushes, and then painted this scene from a cute little Toronto neighborhood park:
Plein airpril day 19! A dappled summer view of the house sparrows' favourite bathing spot - in the gutters after a summer rain.
day 20 of #pleinairpril ! this scene is from inside the Don Valley.
here's a look at my progress wall now I'm 2/3rds finished!
guys. holy fuck

Nothing more cringe-worthy than a story where the writer clearly thinks they're making some broad statement about the human condition in the modern day but actually it's just been too long since they left their specifically dysfunctional community, which is ultimately irrelevant to most of society. And 95% of the time that community is Hollywood.
[writer who got his big break and moved to LA about 10 years ago] wow has anyone noticed how everyone has become an inauthentic, self-obsessed social climber in the past decade?

So when I was getting dressed today, I very quickly put on a lab coat and some cat ears, not even trying to have something coherent, just wanting to have some kind of costume, and then I used some eyeliner to draw some whiskers on my face, so, yeah, that's my costume, cat in a lab coat, does it make sense? no. who cares. Still wearing the same skirt and striped knee-high socks from yesterday, but that's just my work clothes.
But then when I got to my office in the physics department, one of my colleagues was immediately like, "Oh! Schrödinger's catgirl!"
It both was and was not a coherent costume until someone observed you and collapsed the wavelength.
movies are literally good. or bad sometimes. depending
I will always add the follow up to this.
