Boys Track Leaderboard (1/13 Update)- Amazing Distance Performances!

It was a fast weekend for the 300m, as William Heathman and Kevin Conchieri both improved their marks, as well as Ben Seward and Jeremy Carter jumping onto the list.

Dage Minors is having a season to remember.  At Dartmouth this past weekend he hitched onto a fast 1mi race, and clocked 4:24.82.  Converted to 1600m, that becomes 4:23.28, over a second under John Brueckner's State Record.  What's more, that performance puts Minors on top of the performance lists for 300m, 600m, 1000m and 1600m!  It will be interesting to see what event(s) he keys on for the State Meet.

Not to be ignored was another pair of record-threatening runs by Dan Grosvenor and Marc Brandmeyer.  Grosvenor may have been usurped by Minors atop the 1600 list, but his 4:26.84 1mi run in the same race converts to 4:25.29, within a second of the State Record.  We're hoping for another matchup between these two before the end of the season!

Brandmeyer continues to roll off a strong XC season, distancing himself from most of the state in the 3200m.  His 2mi time at Dartmouth converts down to a 9:35.47, less than 2 seconds off Kyle Powers' state record.  What's more, he's now 50 seconds ahead of 3rd place in the state at that distance.

After Saturday's performance, St. J's Dage Minors now has State bests in the 300m, 600m and 1000m.  Particularly impressive is his 600m, which was run on UVM's undersized track.  When using NCAA official conversions, Minor's time drops down to 1:25.94 on a 200m oval, like the one he'll see at the State meet.

This weekend saw six new times in the 4x200, including a South Burlington team jumping into the mix.  But it's still MMU and Essex out front.

There are a few holes to fill in the Girls Distance events, specifically the 4x800 (which only four teams have competed in thus far) and the mile/2mile, where a lot of schools are running the 1500/3k at Dartmouth instead.

BGH Track Leaderboard- Girls Sprints

Happy New Year everyone! We're finishing up this week with the Girls' Leaderboards, starting short and sweet with some sprints.  

Above is the point distribution (thus far) of our leaderboard.  Early off, Mt. Anthony is showing some of the depth and dominance that last year's South Burlington team exhibited.  It's important to keep in mind that most of Mt. A's races have been run at the more sprint-friendly Dartmouth track, though.

BGH Track Leaderboard- Boys Distance

We're just a few weeks into the season and there have already been some great performances on the distance side.  Defending State Champion Dage Minors (St. Johnsbury) has already run 2:35 in the 1000m, less than a half-second off of the state record.  In the 2-mile, Montpelier's Dan Grosvenor has already run 9:41, especially impressive considering no one has gotten within 40 seconds of that time.  Take a look at the full lists below!

BGH Track Leaderboard- Boys Sprints

Today we unveil our patented BGH Indoor Track Leaderboards.  Throughout the winter season, we'll be updating and posting the top times in each State Championship event and displaying them grouped by event type.  

As the season progresses, we'll award points to each school and at the end of it all, we'll crown the best schools in Sprinting, Distance, Relays and Field Events.

Are you familiar with Kickstarter?  It's a website where people propose quirky and creative ideas, and ask you to donate to their cause.  If you haven't checked it out, I really recommend giving it a once over---> Kickstarter

I happened across this one the other day:

Run Free 2013 is just like any other road race, except that there isn't actually a race.  You sign up, pay your race fee, get your shirt and bib number etc., but instead of showing up on race day, you just send in a picture of you faking your race.  That's right, take a picture of yourself faking the race and then spam social media with the pictures. 

The "goal" is essentially to figure out how many people they can get to believe that Run Free is actually a thing; which again, it's not.  Clever!  (I think?)

We've been putting in the miles and hitting the gym, and we're coming back better than ever!  

During cross country we came out of the gates hard, but due to some unforeseen circumstances had to cut coverage during the most exciting time of the season.  We're glad you guys enjoyed what we were able to put together, and we're hoping to unveil a new, more sustainable system for indoor.  Don't worry, we won't skimp on the things you liked- the analysis, history, predictions and tweets- and we may just add a few things you like more.

So get your warm-weather gear on and hit the roads.  We'll see you on the track...

Quick Look- NVACs

The South Burlington boys continue their season of domination by taking five of the first eight spots, including another sweep of the top three.  

CVU is the only sure thing on the girls side, as the race for 2nd continues to look wide open.  Another strong race from Essex, led up front by Pinto and Monahan, has the Hornets looking good, though.

Weekend Roundup

With some teams off and the rest spread around the region this weekend, we've sifted through the results, consulted the oracles and drank a lot of apple cider (unrelated) to come up with a list of what you need to know about this past weekend for VTXC.

MMU Home Meet #2

Note 1- Essex Boy's Spread

Over the past month we've seen Essex develop one of the most formidable spreads in the state.  In fact, their top 3 average spread for the past four weeks has been an unbelievable 2.59 seconds!

Note 2- MMU continues to struggle in the absence of Hegman, who missed his second consecutive meet Friday.  The bright spot continues to be their Freshman, Brooks Moreau, who finished beside another emerging Freshman for the Cougars, Jackson Wright.

Note 3-  Despite having the same time as MMU's Andrea Duncan at Woods Trail (21:14) Essex's Rachel Pinto cruised to a 32 second victory over the Cougar #1 the following week.  

Manhattan Invite

Note 1- Taylor Spillane continues to run phenomenally, leading the Redhawks to a 5th place finish in Eastern States and running 14:42 (2.5mi) in the process.

Note 2-  The CVU boy's spread was air-tight once again, 18 seconds from their 1-5.  This time, Delaney led the charge, finishing in 13:46 (2.5mi).

Burnt Hills Invite (Saratoga, NY)

Note 1- Brandmeyer runs 15:29 on a SPAC course that features a sizable hill, good enough for 2nd.  

Note 2- Mt. A averaged 16:52 for their top-5, a very respectable performance to follow up Woods Trail.

Updated Woods Trail Compilation

*note- individual placing still represents the scoring with all 16 teams since '07, we only display the top 7 teams here.

Originally, our compilation only included teams that finished in the top-3 in their respective years, however, given the success of this year's teams, we decided to add in CVU to see where they ranked.  

We've got the updated scores above.  You can see, CVU sneaks ahead of 2010's St. Johnsbury team.  Also, adding in the extra CVU guys brings the '08 Essex team into a tie with '07 MMU.
