I wish we got to know more about Beverly’s relationship with her grandmother but I am reading so much into the little crumbs we get. Like, we get the idea in Sub Rosa that Beverly loves her very much and they were very close once, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. They mention that Beverly’s barely been to visit her in the last 20 years, and this lines up with Wesley not even being at the funeral - does he even know his great-grandmother? Beverly didn’t know her Nana was dating someone (and that doesn’t seem to be because of the whole ghost sex candle thing cause Beverly happily told everyone that she was dating that same ghost) and it just really seems like they’re not close.
And Felisa has a framed photo with Beverly in her starfleet uniform but how does she really feel about starfleet? Like this is a woman who was present during an undefined disaster on a federation colony, lost her child and was left to raise her orphaned grandchild, used holistic medicines to help people survive after the traditional medicines ran out, and then moved herself and her granddaughter out to what was basically a historic recreation colony. She retreated to and raised Beverly in a simulacrum of the past. How did she feel about her granddaughter leaving to join starfleet, the epitome of progress, modernisation and movement? Is that what drove a wedge between them?
Or is this just another example of Beverly’s tendency to keep the people she loves at a distance? Did she just isolate herself and stop talking to her and stop visiting because if she’s close to people then losing them will hurt more?
