"Dude! You're so cute! C'mere, little guy! Or girl! Or whatever you are!"
@snugglyporos
Which version should I finish?
Top
Bottom
"Heh, yeah, we're not exactly super common," Ava admitted sheepishly. And most of them weren't nearly as sociable as she was.
"Oh, uh, yeah, it's a small paleontology convention! Nothing crazy like SVP, but I had the opportunity to go and jumped at the chance. Any scientific event is worth my time!"
She paused, thinking to herself.
"Well... I don't see the problem with it, but I think you need to get a ticket. Then again, you're a Teen Titan, they'll probably let you in anyway!"
While Beast Boy did do his research on animals, the term SVP wasn’t ringing a bell right now. He could only assume it was the head honcho of paleontology. (Yes, he knew what paleontology meant.) “Oh, I can buy a ticket no problem! ...Unless you have to buy one in advance. If that’s the case, I might be able to go in as security. Or maybe a display!” He took the form of a velociraptor and let out a trill.
Syd nodded, "Yeah, it is! 'Cept I haaaave to call her 'Mum', cuz I guess callin' her by that isn't 'polite' or whatever, and-"
She stopped, once she saw her mom's face looking...well, almost like it was rapidly and spontaneously sunburning.
Charlotte chuckled nervously, suddenly feeling like a naughty student that'd been caught passing notes in class again.
"...Um...y-yeah, that...that was me..." she responded. "...I, ah..."
The smaller of the two redheads joined in the laughter, "Smitten?! Are you 'avin' a bubble, Mr. Neil?! They're all ooey-gooey, lovey-dovey with each other!"
She began to mimic her parents' voices in a dramatic sort of way, rattling off a bunch of terms of endearment they'd often call each other and making exaggerated kissy noises.
Both adults facepalmed at their daughter's ridiculousness. Now, there was nothing wrong with being- as she put it- "ooey-gooey, lovey dovey", but she didn't have to be so loud and obvious about it.
While Mod initially joined Syd in her laughter, it ultimately tapered off as he found himself a bit envious. He was so lonely. Sure, he had a friendship growing with Mitchell, but he was currently with the Titans to see if they could help him better than he could. That's why Beast Boy told him to head to the beach in the first place; to see another person who isn't Mitchell and take his mind off his work. He didn't want anyone to know what he was feeling though, so he attempted to bounce back with a forced laugh. "Guess you should call me Cupid then! Get me a bow and arrow and I'll be set! Already practically in my knickers, uh?" His laughter was more genuine this time. "So, I imagine you lot 'ave some questions for me."
Granted, he'd been out of university for years at this point, but that specific voice had Syd's dad (The "Malone!" in question) freeze- almost as if it was a reflex.
Oddly enough, Syd's mom did, too. She knew that voice- the one that sometimes haunted her in her nightmares and reliving her school days (albeit with the embarrasment factor turned way, way up).
Syd raised an eyebrow, curious. Why'd they react like that? It was when both stuttered a "M-Mr. R-R-Richards?" that both of the child's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"...Wait a sec," she looked to the two while pointing at Mod, "You know him?!"
Then to Mod, "You know them?!"
Mod wasn’t able to keep his authoritative facade up for long before he cracked and erupted into laughter. “Oh-ho-ho! You should see the look on your faces! Ah-ha-ha! I can’t believe that worked!” Doubling over, he continued to cackle. “How many years ‘as it been? Ha ha ha!” He gave the child’s shoulder a few hearty pats. “Your parents used to be my students! At least I know your father was. Your mum,” he pointed to the blonde, “seems to have been as well, given ‘er reaction. Wait. You said ‘er name was Charlotte, right?” He looked at Syd, then turned his attention back to the mother. “Are you the same Charlotte ‘o thought she could out-prank me? The one I paired with Roger to see you bicker and I’m fairly certain ‘e was smitten with?”
Syd's eyes widened like a child on Christmas morning.
"WOAH!! Wicked!! How'd you get it to do that?!" She looked at the cane up and down like it was some mystical artifact. "An' how'd you manage to the twirly-spinny thing?! I've done that, like...a buh-million and a half times with a baton or a broomstick, and I always conk meself on the head when I do it, and-"
She kept excitedly rattling off a bunch of questions, completely unaware that two figures were coming up on them- both looking like who Syd had described as her parents. The look on their faces were currently one of a pair of folks who were used to having to deal with apologizing for their kid poking their nose into other peoples' business.
Mod chuckled as he listened to the kid ramble on, licking the sweet treat she had brought him. The girl was talking a mile a minute with questions to match. How she expected him to answer in the time it took her to take a breath, he had no clue. Oh well. He’d just continue eating until she ran out of questions and allowed him to speak. As she rambled, the description of her parents stuck out to him. Roger Malone... He knew he’d heard that name before. He wasn’t sure where, but when he saw the man approaching with his wife, the memories flooded back. Roger looked uneasy. Perfect. He placed a hand on Syd’s shoulder and muttered, “Watch this.” Standing up straight, he glared over at the father, but it wasn’t overly noticeable with his sunglasses. His scowl, however… “Malone!” he spoke with the most authoritative voice he could muster, hoping it was still commanding while in swim trunks, covered in sand, and holding an ice cream pop. “You are late again! If you don’t learn to scrape the molasses from your shoes, you’ll miss out on everything!”
Ah, now that explained pretty much everything that had just happened. Sort of.
It took Ava a moment to realize what had happened when they landed in front of the convention center, blinking a couple times as the falcon turned into... oh, Beast Boy!
She knew the Teen Titans existed, she just hadn't expected to ever MEET one of them, even in their home town! Ava grinned, hopping in place a bit.
"Oh, wow, hi! Um, I mean, yes! Er, no, I didn't mind! That's what I meant, yeah! Sorry, jeez, I just didn't think I'd get to meet a bona fide superhero!"
Beast Boy was still not fully used to seeing people being fans of him. Fans of the Titans? Sure. Fans of him specifically? Not so much… until after he hit eighteen.. and gained muscle…and got taller... and received his inheritance… and mentally matured some… Whatever the reason, he was certainly excited by her reaction. “I didn’t think I’d get to meet a bona fide harpy! I’ve never seen one of you in person before!”
Was that rude? He hoped not. “Mind if I keep tagging along to,” he gestured vaguely to the convention center, “whatever it is you’re doing here? Was hoping to chat if you’re cool with that.”
Roddy stiffened infintesimalley from the heartiness of the pat...but the praise instantly made him soften. He liked being acknowledged for things other than him being shy.
"I-I guess that means you have to be careful w-with what exactly you teach them...l-like when you have a...um..."
He stopped for a minute, thinking out loud and quietly speaking to himself
"Ach, Was ist das englische Wort für 'Kleinkind'...toddler! L-like when you have a toddler nearby, and you stub your toe. A-and you let out a curse word, and that's what they keep repeating. "
"Can we get goin'?" Syd asked, as she scarmbled closer to the two, and was attempting to hold off a check up from the little critters, "I am gettin' kinda peckish..."
“Big Daddy will have to keep that in mind if those little guys ever get to talkin’.” The sumps emerged from the RV and made a beeline for Syd. Whether she wanted them to or not, the colorful little beings used their combined strength to lift her up and carry her into the RV. “Guess we’re leavin’ now,” he muttered to himself as he followed after them, taking the supplies back in his arms. “C’mon, kiddos!” The creatures set the young girl on a plush seat and proceeded to play doctor with what they’d gathered. One patted her knee and babbled some sort of equivalent of ‘there there,’ while another placed a cold damp cloth on her forehead. As one more readied a thermometer, the final one placed a bucket in front of her, just in case.
Well, this was definitely one of the weirdest situations Ava had ever been in. Something told her this was not a normal bird--especially when it nodded and winked at her. As if the green wasn't a dead giveaway.
Still, it was fun to watch the strange falcon veer away and do an impressive loop before coming back. Weird or not, it was definitely quite the acrobat.
"Uh... oh, no, don't give me that look!" She insisted sheepishly, and a bit breathlessly--talking and flying at the same time was taking quite a lot of effort. "I'm more of a 'fly in a straight line' kind of gal..."
It had never occurred to the changeling that it probably took more effort for a harpy to fly than it would for a typical bird. After all, many birds flew more than they walked. He figured it must be the opposite for harpies. Maybe he could just ask her… once they landed and she could breathe more easily. He gave her a nod and continued the flight in silence, peacefully soaring alongside her. When the woman began to descend, he followed, taking his human form once more as his feet hit the ground. “Hey!” he finally spoke to her, grinning ear to ear.
“Hope you don’t mind I tagged along for your flight!”
i wanna make it unequivocally clear that there are no time limits when it comes to rping with me. idc if you're scrolling through your drafts and you find a thread of ours from two years ago+ and you wanna continue it... but you're afraid i'll be upset with you bc it's been so long...
babes, i am holding your face so gently when i say this: do the thing. i promise, the only thing i'mma be when i see that notif is excited
Syd made another face, "Even worse."
"And yet, you will put ketchup on goodness knows what." Mina mumbled.
"Hey, that stuff's at least good!"
Ignoring his bickering(?) teammates, Roddy looked to DDD. "Maybe they think S-Syd's actually sick? She isn't, obviously, but...a-a-a-a misunderstanding?"
“That might just be it. Smart little guy, aren’tcha?” The greaser chuckled and gave the child’s shoulder a hearty pat. “Those critters only understand so many words. They’re pretty smart though. Wouldn’t think it from just lookin’ at ‘em. They picked up mechanics real fast once I showed ‘em how!”

Despite his quick recovery, she still easily spotted the man's reaction, which was very similar to her own. So this was as unusual as she had thought, not just something she happened to miss out on during her time on Earth. Peculiar.
Now that she got to have a good look at him... He looked young, very young. She quickly glanced at the rest of the group defending against the stone creature behind the shapeshifting man - all likely in their late teens, quite a lot younger than her. And they were fighting this monster alone?
Stephanie took the man's hand mostly out of politeness, pulling herself up but more so relying on her own legs to get her up.
" Thank you- " She replied, shaking herself internally out of her daze, dusting off splinters from her failed attack from her dress. " I'm not going anywhere! " She interrupted before he could lead her away from the fight. " Let me help! " said Stephanie, raising her arm up into the air, palm facing upwards, the veins in her forearm once again lighting up with a purple hue. Vines once again snaked out of the holes she tore out of the concrete seemingly following the motion of her arm, now frozen mid-air in place as if waiting for her next command.
" I can hold it for a bit or trip it over if that would help. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it. "
She chose not to jump straight back into action, they seemed to have a team synergy ongoing, that she could trip up jumping in unannounced. It wasn't entirely clear to her what the stone being was, why it was attacking, or who the young heroes were, but she knew she didn't want to leave anyone so young on their own against the creature, no matter how skilled and capable they may be..
Beast Boy looked at her blankly. So, she was a super looking to help? They didn’t need help though. They practically had defeating Cinderblock down to a science, at this point. They took the monster on as younger teens and now that the youngest member of the team was nineteen, well, it wasn’t like they were getting weaker. “Um… Maybe… maybe next time. We kind of-” “Azarath Metrion Zinthos!” Raven’s gravelly voice rang out to restrain Cinderblock with her magic, followed by a loud boom of Nightwing’s and Cyborg’s combo attack. The changeling turned to see Cinderblock incapacitated. “Uh, yeah,” he looked back at her, gesturing with his thumb. “We’re done.”
The nice thing about being a harpy (well, one of the nice things) was being able to fly; unless there was inclement weather, Ava never needed to bother with a car except for very distance travel. She had brought her Jeep with her to Jump City, but when she had finally arrived, she had opted for flying wherever she needed to go, enjoying the wind in her feathers and the warm sun on her wings.
And it was especially exciting to visit the local paleontology summit! That had been the whole point of her trip in the first place, obviously, but actually making her way there was still exciting!
Understandably, she hadn't really expected anyone to join her up here; there were no other harpies in Jump City as far as she knew, and most other birds would give someone her size a wide berth. So, when a green peregrine falcon pulled up next to her, she did a double take.
"Wha... huh??" She stammered. "Um... hi there, little buddy!"
The Peregrine Falcon was like most of Beast Boy’s animal forms in that he could not speak. Instead, he lifted his head up and down in a single nod of acknowledgment. Incredibly curious about this harpy, having never met one before, he made sure to get a good look. He flew high above her, getting a better view of her wingspan, before soaring down below to see the undersides of her wings. Satisfied for now, the green falcon made his way back to her side before doing something else unexpected of a bird. He winked.
Time to show off! He folded his wings in and dove down, building up great speed before swooping up and performing a vertical loop in the air next to her. Afterwards, he looked at her with an inquisitive tilt of his head, wondering if she could do any tricks like that.
@titansandothersrp sent 🕐 for a thread with future Steph
It's been years since the last time Stephanie came to Earth. With her life now in a relatively stable place and possessing the means to defend herself, she was finally able to go explore all of the places she wanted to see for so long - Starting off simple by returning to a familiar place, the world that had been her home and her prison for many years. Except this time the stay was entirely on her own terms.
She had expected a lot to have changed in that time, but what she didn't expect during her exploration was some sort of giant stone golem-like creature rampaging through the city. The streets were in sheer pandemonium with dozens of people desperately pushing past her in all directions, screaming and crying, hoping to escape in time. She stood there stunned, trying to process what she was even looking at.
There were meant to be no such creatures on Earth as far as she was aware. Was it an animation created by an Earth elemental? A hollow made by faunal magic? Whatever it was, it had to be stopped before it did more damage and there wasn't anyone else in sight to help... To hell with magical secrecy!
The golem-like creature suddenly changed direction and charged towards a group of bystanders attempting to flee.
" Oh no, you don't! " the woman yelled out and took a steady defensive stance as thick vines burst out of the concrete road, whipping past her at high speeds and wrapping around the creature's legs and arms to stop it in its path, binding it in place. Her hands enveloped with purple light and threaded with glowing veins curled up into fists trying to keep the vines stable as the creature started struggling against her, pulling violently in the opposite direction. She quickly closed her eyes and pictured the fibers of her creation hardening, followed by a fast movement of her now shaking arms. Responding to the motion, the vines began quickly shifting into wooden branches in an attempt to incapacitate the foe altogether - her tried and tested strategy for defeating Hunters without hurting them.
However, the being was much larger and stronger than a Hunter. After a moment of struggle, it successfully tore the branches apart into pieces, sending them flying in different directions. One of them hurdled towards Stephanie, knocking her to the ground before she even had a chance to react. The universal grunted in pain from the impact, opening her eyes to see the stone being lift a car off the ground and throw it her way like it weighed nothing.
Reflexively, she attempted to re-summon more vines to either catch the car or pull herself away, but she couldn't get enough leverage from her current position to break through the concrete again. The vehicle was about to land on her. Was this it?
" Titans, go! " a male voice bellowed out from behind.
Before the vehicle could finish its arch through the air a giant green reptilian looking creature suddenly dashed in front of her and caught the huge flying hunk of metal in its large jaws, throwing it back at the stone man. What in the world was that? And why did it save her?
A group of other figures ran past them both, ones looking and dressed far from the regular fashions on Earth. They were dashing towards the terrorizing foe. Were they there to fight it?
Stephanie pushed the huge branch off herself, ready to jump back in to assist the unknown group, but before she could the giant reptile in front of her shifted and shrunk down into a- human man? How was that even possible? He couldn't be a faunal, shapeshifters cannot stretch their mass that much and she sensed no magic circulatory system within him. Was this man from Earth? But he was an odd colour... Like her?
" Woah... Incredible... " she said in awe, unable to pick herself up off the ground just yet as too many questions flooded her head.
Cinderblock was no doubt an immensely powerful opponent. He took hard hits and dealt even harder blows. Not to mention he was hard headed in multiple senses of the word, even with his inability to talk. Give him an objective and he’d brute force his way into completing it. He didn’t have much focus outside of destruction and following orders. Whether he was under orders or simply on a rampage was yet to be known. Whatever the case, the Titans had to stop him. “Titans, go!” Nightwing didn’t need to tell them twice. As the team leader prepared an attack with Cyborg, Starfire and Raven worked on corralling the civilians to safety. Meanwhile, Beast Boy had taken the form of a Tyrannosaurus Rex to keep the villain distracted, stomping thunderously towards the stone creature. That’s when the car went flying… right towards a woman! The T-Rex launched himself into the air and caught the car in his massive jaws, flinging it right back at the attacker. His primal instincts soon took over and he let out a threatening roar before returning to human form. “Hey, are you alri-?”
The changeling turned, stopping mid sentence as he took in the woman’s appearance. Their similarities weren’t lost on him. “Um. I mean.” He shook his head to get himself back in the game. “Let’s get you somewhere safe.” He held his hand out to help her up.
