In honor of Thanksgiving coming up, here's a oneshot I wrote last year set after the lightning strike!

Summary:

In the aftermath of the lightning strike, Buck finds himself struggling with expectations as Thanksgiving approaches. When Eddie shows up and comforts him, it leads to a breakthrough for them.

I'm sick of all the posts about how we "never saw Buck being heartbroken or pining for lost love". I am begging you to watch the whole series. The first half of s2 is about Buck being heartbroken and pining for lost love! Abby still haunts the narrative. Do not dismiss the importance of Abby and all the relationship Buck had before just to elevate Tommy. Or just say you're a misogynist, who can't seem to understand the importance and impact of women

I am broadly excited for s8e8 and keeping an open mind, but my key wish for the upcoming episode is please please please let there be progress for Eddie and Christopher. All other theories and hopes I can take or leave but if we go into the season hiatus not meaningfully moved at all from where s7 left them then I am... going to be very frustrated.

Buck leans forward in his seat, looking at Eddie with genuine interest. “I just want to make sure I’m understanding correctly. A priest told you to stop avoiding drinking juice so… you invite me over to dinner and compare me to fruit?”

Father Brian helps Eddie realize he's allowed to go after what makes him happy, and Eddie should have learned from the vat of chocolate speech that he's not the best at analogies.

“She’s nice,” Maddie echoes Buck’s answer to the much dreaded ‘What do you think of her?’ question. “I practically raised you, Buck, I know when you’re lying to me. And you don’t like her.”

“It’s not that I don’t like her,” he tries to explain, “it’s just that—”

“You love him,” Maddie interrupts, a soft knowing look on her face.

With a heavy sigh, Buck concedes, “I love him.”
