there is an inevitable sense of hilarity to the optics of the situation. her sitting behind observing the chimera trying to pick between garment options, the curious and subtly scared look of the only assistant on the floor waiting behind the counter across the store as it is closed making them the only shoppers around. it is a test run of sorts after all.
“what would be more comfortable for you to wear?” she redirects the question gently yet firm. although matters of fashion and creativity are way beyond her scope of expertise, riza does know by first hand experience the hurdles of performing normalcy in front of civilians. a costume that fits comfortably is easier to wear than one that does not. perhaps in time it will stop feeling like a costume at all. “there are not rigid rules when it comes to layers of clothing, i don't think. it's more so a matter of comfort. you should try them on.”
He takes in the question, lips drawing into a tight line. Comfortable.
There were two conditions when it came to his uniforms: concealment, and ease of movement. On the rare occasions he needed to appear before unauthorized persons, he'd hide his tail in a long coat. Beneath that his clothes-- like the ones he's wearing now-- were tight and uncomplicated. Comfort was a side effect.
Each stitch in the yellow sweater leaves the trace of a bump behind when he runs his thumb across its surface. It's an odd feeling against his finger pad. By contrast, the green vest is smoother, though still soft. Neither are quite what he's used to.
He tugs the vest over his head and holds his arms out from his sides, peering down to scrutinize himself. Is it comfortable? He turns in a slow circle.
"It doesn't look right," he finally says.
One is faded buttercup yellow with a loose turtleneck, long sleeves dangling limply. The other is forest green and sleeveless. He holds up each in turn, squinting hard.
"Sir?" Finally he turns around, projecting his whisper a little-- making sure to get her attention without being too loud. "Sir, would it be more efficient, do you think, to stick to long sleeves only?" He pauses for a moment, then clarifies; "So that we don't have to get something else to go underneath it."

Greed quickly downed their drink, smacking his lips together as he thought about the taste.
"Oh, an excellent point, we'll have to." Greed agreed, procuring another bottle from behind the bar, and pouring them each a glass.
"Now, I have a very refined palette, after over 200 years of consuming things, both what humans consider foodstuffs, and, uh, a few poisons, just to check, and...well, rocks, a few times...I'm getting carried away. You understand."
Greed then drank the second glass, tongue poking out to lick his lips as he hummed, staring down into his now empty glass.
"I'll be honest with you, Bido. I...cannot tell the difference." They admitted.
Bido closed his eyes as he felt the last of his own glass drain down his throat. The taste lingered on his tongue. It did make some sense that Greed, always eager to try something new and exotic, wouldn't exactly hone in on the subtle differences between years of champagne.
"Ours is a little... um..." He cocked his head. It was certainly different. Less snappy? Not in a bad way. The flavor was different too, but like hell did he have the words to describe it.
"I'll be honest too, Mr. Greed, when I'm drinking I don't normally care what it tastes like." He sighed, and thrummed his fingers on the counter. "It's a little crazy... being able to slow down, and think about things like that. You wouldn't believe the stuff they fed us back there."
Well. Actually, Greed had just talked about eating rocks.
"Okay-- maybe you would. Still."
When presented with the bottle, Greed gasped, taking it, and immediately tearing into it. "Let's crack open this bad boy, see if the competition has a better supplier than us. If they do, I'll find 'em and...well, I won't kill 'em, cause I respect the hustle, but I'll...do somethin', probably. I dunno. That's for a schemin' day, todays a party day."
"There are a few presents inside, Martel says I can't open 'em yet, which is bullshit, 'cause it's my birthday, and I think I make the rules on my birthday...and every other day, too, but she's not budgin' on this. I did sneak a peak at a few, though..." Or, well, all of them, but he wasn't going to admit that out loud.
They dropped their hand to Bido's back, guiding him as they walked back into the bar.
"D'ya want a glass'a this, Bido?" Greed questioned, ducking behind the bar to grab some glasses. "Only right that the big man himself takes the first sip." He doesn't wait for Bido's answer as he pours them each a glass, pushing one across the bar to Bido, before holding up his own.
"Cheers."
"The big--?" His face flushed. He scoffed into his fist, but the smile crept up on him nevertheless. "Mr. Greed!"
Here he was trying to play Greed's cards, forgetting that they'd always be three steps ahead of him. The shot of straight ego would always go right to his head. The big man himself... that was what Dolcetto and Martel liked to call Roa, which made a lot more sense from both social and strictly literal perspectives, but the idea of Greed holding him in such high esteem made his chest feel light and bubbly as he set his glass back down on the table.
"Hic." Okay, maybe some of that was the carbonation.
"I think I did a pretty good job," he declared. It was easy enough to be proud of himself with the aftertaste of the nickname still fresh on his tongue. "I don't know if it's better than ours, though. I guess we'll just have to try some of that too."

RP PET PEEVES: i love complaining
godmoddings a freebie, but it does drive me up the wall. dont make me tell you "he would not fucking say that" about the character IM playing. dont auto-win a combat thread in a single response with zero prior communication. nobody likes this but everybodys encountered it in some form or another and unfortunately i doubt it will ever fully come to an end until the universe explodes
on the other hand, not everything is a contest. i normally operate under the premise that my characters will react to their situations based on... well. common sense. we're not playing a tabletop rpg where everything requires a dice roll, we're playing toys with our imaginations, but ive still encountered several situations where pointing out that a character has some ability that would put them at an obvious physical advantage over another has been a problem, for some reason. if you dont want brad from accounting to lose to goku you dont have to make him fight goku! he is not going to beat goku! there are way more interesting ways for brad from accounting and goku to interact that dont involve fighting!!!
lack of communication about roleplay in general, and this one i come at through a lens of compassion because ive BEEN there and i get it. its hard to communicate. its hard one on one, its hard in groups, and the less you communicate the more alienated you feel from the people around you and the more out of wack everything gets. But You Gotta
a more specific type of lack of communication that makes me go "man": when people constantly demand rp into the void but never explain what their characters are like and what to expect from them. how am i supposed to know if i want to rp with you......
one time i joined a server that made everyone who wanted access to the nsfw channels dm the mods a picture of their face and the birthday on their real life drivers license to prove they werent faking their age and im sorry but thats insane
LEVEL OF RP EXPERIENCE: id say a lot!!! i got my start on warrior cats in middle school more than a decade ago and ive come back to the hobby a couple times since then, but ive also never gotten super into the ooc community side of things aside from discord groups, so theres still a lot that goes over my head on that end.
FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT? i am a sucker for "deep conversations about complex feelings" and i dont know if that falls into any of those three categories. i guess angst is closest because the Troubled Emotions are there but when i hear angst in the context of rp i think of characters getting kidnapped and tortured and almost dying in each others arms and whatever? which to be clear im not opposed to. like im perfectly open to all 3. i have never actually done smut before though
PLOTS OR MEMES? plotting is great but ive never actually managed to see any kind of plot through for very long, and i blame that on tumblr dms just being really bad for expressing longform thoughts. the little box doesnt give me room for big ideas. bido is also hard for that kind of thing because canon puts a lot of constraints on him and his movement and im always loath to break them (i am Arbitrary Self Restrictions Man). i need more aus where i can just put him in a sandbox and figure something out with somebody else so. i guess the answer here is "memes are great and easier in the short term, but in the lonely hours of the night i yearn to plot"
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES? i love short replies. can never manage to keep them short. allergic to brevity overexplaining is my best friend
TIME TO WRITE? it. varies. its going to be either 20 minutes or a year.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE? in some ways definitely! i cant claim i havent done some projecting to flesh him out, and i also relate (albeit in somewhat abstracted ways) to a lot of what hes been through. themes of limited freedom and dehumanization and institutional abuse are very personal to me, and when i write his feelings about his experiences, it helps me solidify and work through my own shit at the same time.
but theres also many parts of him that are very much Just Bido Things and i do consciously try to maintain that separation between the me out here and the character in the writing because a) getting too emotionally wrapped up in your own character usually sucks, and b) hes a fascinating person in his own right and i shouldnt have to relate 100% to everything he does and thinks to be invested in what happens to him. hopefully i can continue to hone my portrayal as time goes on!

A "birthday" was loosely putting it, really. At least, in the traditional sense. After all, a pious man would likely find Greed's very existence to be blasphemous, a real smear on the name of all that is good and righteous in the world. There was no celebration of life to be had when countless lives had to be lost just for Greed to take his first breath, and with each day that passes with him wandering the Earth, those same souls continue to live on, in agony.
But, hey, it's an entire day dedicated to Greed, so he wasn't going to squander it.
The gang had thrown him a party, because they always threw him a party, the banner from last year (and the year before and the year before and the year-) being reused, the number constantly being crossed out.
HAPPY 207 8 9 TH BIRTHDAY GREED!
"Has anyone seen Bido?" He questioned, the makeshift party hat on his head slightly tilted, as he wandered through the bar.
"He's gonna miss pin the tail on Roa, that's, like, the best part."
Greed wandered outside, putting a hand to his forehead to block out the sun as he called out toward the roof.
"Oy! Bido!"
Turning, he did a small jump at the realization the man was right behind him.
"Christ, Bido, you're too good at sneakin' around." Greed suddenly perked up, pointing at the bottle in his hands.
"Whatcha got there?"
He jumped when Greed jumped; then he laughed, sheepishly. "Oh, well..." Holding out the bottle in both hands, he inspected the ribbon job one last time. Was it still lopsided? Just a little? Could he maybe... no, no, it was too late for that. "I wasn't really sure what you'd like this year but I thought I might get you something from our competition."
Twisting around, he glanced up towards the roof, where Greed had been calling.
"Sorry, sorry for the wait. Last minute, um, finishing touches-- I wouldn't miss your party for anything, Mr. Greed! Has anybody else brought you something yet?"
Talking about new possessions was a surefire way to bring a sparkle into Greed's eyes. Maybe it'd make up for spooking him.
Do birthdays get old, after nearly 200 years? After fifty his own have stopped holding much significance. But to someone chasing immortality, Bido reckons maybe each passing year is a little more to celebrate...
He arranges the ribbon on the bottle just so. Hiding away in the Cobweb til after closing time and sneaking something expensive-looking out of their inventory wasn't actually all that hard, but getting caught would have been a disaster. Worth it?
Well. He can think about that later.

"Daaaaddd" Aya groaned. "C'mon its jus' a couch---I took a nap there yesterday. I doubt Greed'd want ya t' rest on the floor when the couch is empty."
She led him into the back room slowly to make sure he didnt topple again. "Why do Greeds hang out spots make ya so nervous?"
"Nerv-- nervous! Who's nervous!" He makes his best effort to square his shoulders and push out his chest. "Nervous, why, you've got some nerve, miss... ueh heh heh... no, no, no, it's, it's his! So it's important. It's very important. It's-- geh."
He stumbles again and his shin catches on one of the legs of the table. Oh it's hard to walk around drunk with these feet.
"No, I might as well be saying that I'm the one in charge and obviously that's-- it's just not true. I mean look at me. I really can just sit down..."
And that he does, lowering himself carefully to the floor. He sits very primly for how teetery his balance was a minute ago.
Seeing his friend drop to the ground was enough to snap his mind back, without a second though he felt himself moving forward as if his feet had a mind of their own and dropped down to Bido's level throwing his arms around them and tail curling; so relieved that he hadn't lost his family again, not all of it..
He was right, he was alive. They were alive that's what was important right now and could only hope they weren't the only ones left.
"No, not hurt." Timaeus shook his head putting on a slight smile hoping to put their mind at ease. As for eating? It was a yes and no. His appetite had plummeted to almost non existent after the raid, and with the constant traveling with Luna and going up North having done no favours in that regard but he still tried to eat some. If only to keep her from worrying or fussing to much.
"Yeah, I try to" He assured, hoping it would be enough to dissuade any worries he might have, "Luna can be very...pushy,"
It was the first warm touch he'd felt since then, and it set off some kind of release valve deep in his chest. Bido sobbed, clinging to Timaeus. His claws caught in his clothes. Everything being gone forever was one thing, but the reminder of what he'd had, right in front of him, was so tantalizingly cruel it felt like the scab over his heart had been torn right open, leaving the memories to pour out like they were brand new again.
Finally he pulled himself together. He sniffed hard, wiping tears and snot from his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Her too."
Of course she would survive, out of all of them. She was immortal. But then Greed was supposed to be immortal and...
"You... you wouldn't happen to know where they took Mr. Gre... Mr. Greed." Saying his name out loud felt like swallowing a stone. "O-or if anyone else..."
Her main objective was getting him downstairs to get some food in him---at his insistence of not staying upstairs unfortunately. She braced herself at every sway to make sure they didnt BOTH topple!
"I gotchu, unstick yer foot" Usually the sticky pads werent an issue walking around the nest but she assumed the intoxication was playing a major part in their struggle at the moment.
When she felt him shift she was quick to move to the step below and brace herself. "Noooo falling! No falling, c'mon lets get you to the couch 'n the back and ill get ya some food"
"Oh, no no no no no-- ack!"
It's just as he realizes the imbalance that he's suddenly caught. He's lucky Aya's strong; still, the last few steps are more of a controlled tumble than anything else, and he clutches tight to his daughter's shoulders once they've reached the bottom, as if the ground's going to fall away from under him again.
"Ahh, thank goodness... that was close..." Once he's satisfied the world has largely returned to equilibrium he awkwardly pats down his cloak and peers over Aya's shoulder. "Oh... oh, no, that's... well he said I can sit there but really if he isn't around then I ought to just... you know I can um, the floor is just fine."
His heart nearly stopped, breath hitched as he stood speechless at the site of his friend.
How many times had he imagined him laying dead or locked up back in a lab. But there he stood alive and as far as he could tell unharmed, he recalled Bido leaving shortly before they came but with so much chaos he hadn't know if they'd returned or been spotted or anything.
"I....I'm sorry," Was all he could bring himself to say, wrapping his arms around hugging himself.
"Ran..I ran.. I mean first I hid there was so..so much shouting and the guns and..and the blood, " He stammered trying his best to explain, the events of that day replaying so clearly in his mind, "So-so when I could I just ran.. but didn't know where to go, I..um I hid in the um..the," His right hand shook in a circular motion as he struggled to remember the word "the train place. There was an empty one unused, so..so I stayed."
Should he have tried harder to search? To fight?
No, no, he could see him starting to relive it. That was the last thing he wanted to make him do. Bido shook his head fiercely, feeling the tears starting to rise up again. "Don't-- it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter, you're here and-- and you're alive."
It'd been weeks. A month maybe-- right, the last time he saw the moon it was nearly full again. And Timaeus had been hiding in the trainyard for all that time.
"You... have you been eating? Are you hurt? I have-- I have some bread. It isn't very much but, but you can have it, I mean, I had some today, already, I..."
Oh, it was too much. He sank to the ground on his knees.
