Unfortunately this speaks to the misogyny in Hip Hop and how little of opportunities there is for WOC in the culture. Men use women as accessories, spew casual sexism and are the gatekeepers of how a woman should be received when achieving her craft in hip hop. Either she’s too masculine ( Rah Digga) not masculine enough (Missy Elliot), or a thot (Lil’ Kim). The ageny, profiency and possibilities are continuously limited by men. “Showing love” is another example of how few women there are and how they are always in competition with one another. At least, that’s how I read it.
