NANCY WHEELER & ROBIN BUCKLEY 5.01 | Chapter One: The Crawl
El hearing Jonathan mention something about what Lonnie was like and El immediately deciding it’s time to take a field trip to Lonnie’s place. Jonathan follows her actively trying to talk her out of it and hoping she doesn’t succeed at finding out where he lives. Not because he really cares all that much about what she’s planning to do to Lonnie but she’s going to be in major shit after whatever she does and he doesn’t want Lonnie anywhere near her. And Will’s following more in a well he’s obviously going to follow to see which one of them wins this argument and how it plays out kind of way. And Jonathan thinks Will tagging along is all the more reason to not go anywhere near Lonnie
But then while Jonathan’s going on about how hurting Lonnie would be a bad idea because what if he goes running his mouth about some girl with powers and gets you found and El’s like fine then I won’t use my powers to hurt him, but that doesn’t mean I can’t do anything. And Jonathan’s curious about what that means but isn’t going to ask. Will does though and that’s how Jonathan ends up driving them to a safe distance far down the street from Lonnie’s place to watch the pipes in Lonnie’s place burst and see him run out into the lawn upset before speeding off l before Lonnie can spot Jonathan or Will
Jonathan’s lowkey worried Lonnie’s somehow going to know it was them anyway and freaking out internally until they’re a few streets away and he turns and sees Will and El laughing. Will asks if he saw the look on his face and this is the least afraid and most happy Jonathan has ever seen Will right after being around Lonnie. And Lonnie more than deserves it. And Will and El are both happy and safe and away from the scene of the crime Lonnie has no reason to suspect could be a crime, especially committed by a girl with powers he’s never met. So now Jonathan’s laughing too
My brain’s like why not start a third fic when I’ve just come back from a 3 year disappearance and haven’t updated anything yet
But also I have ideas and I want to get them out and don’t want to spoil them for later by babbling about them on here
it also just hit me that there's zero explanation for the clock theme. guy obsessed with clock imagery and forcing people to see a clock before killing them and then it had nothing to do with anything and they never made time manipulation a textual issue. "idk we like clocks"
They really said let’s write Dustin treating Steve like a clown for suggesting maybe he’s a clockmaker because of all the clock shit just to provide even less context than that and think it through even less
STRANGER THINGS 5.07 — Chapter Seven: The Bridge
I still have to finish off the next chapter of The Things in Life That I Can’t Find but I found some scenes that are already written for the one after it and I forgot how much Steve absolutely cannot catch a break in it
season 3 steve: they can’t make me wear a hat :( it hides my best feature :(
season 5 steve: actually my best feature is Loving Dustin Henderson so i am going to wear one of his goober hats. backwards, granted. but still
No one talking about Karen Wheeler enough. She is just a normal woman, never seen the monster, was drunk as fuck, was scared as shit, and yet she protected her daughter with everything she got.
A broken wine bottle and having to strike that demogorgon up close.
AND I REPEAT MY FUCKING STATEMENT BECAUSE, SHE GOT THE FUCK UP FROM BED, KNOWING THESE BOYS ARE THE KEY TO FINDING HER DAUGHTER, HER THROAT A MESS, COMPLETELY DRUGGED ON PAIN KILLERS, AND SHE STILL WENT AND KILLED 3 DEMODOGS. AND CARRIED THAT TANK FOR GOD KNOWS HOW LONG.
Karen Wheeler DOES NOT play around when it comes to her children.
Eddie following Nancy around and incessantly talking Steve up to her and pestering her about why they broke up while they’re in the middle of life and death shit in the upside down and she’s trying to focus on watching out for monsters until she finally stops walking and turns to face him as she snaps “If you think Steve’s so great, then why don’t you date him?”
Eddie stops walking too at that. He completely misreads the deflection momentarily and asks “Wait, Harrington’s into guys?” but realizes it was not the thing to say when Nancy is visibly shocked and confused and asks “What?” So Eddie echoes “What?” to buy himself time to think of something better, just to only make things worse and more obvious when he adds “Let’s just pretend I didn’t say that” and then starts walking again and is glad when she does too and doesn’t say anything about it (or at all)
Meanwhile Robin and Steve were hanging back chattering together and happily bickering. They heard none of it until Nancy’s outburst that was loud enough to cut through their conversation, but then they blatantly listened in with their ears perked up in time to catch that last part of the interaction
They start exchanging glances because hold on they know another queer person? But also because is Steve into guys? He hadn’t realized Eddie was an option but one thing he’s sure into is attention and he’s been enjoying Eddie’s so does it really matter if he’s a guy instead?
So Steve’s visibly considering if he’s into guys and Robin’s visibly noticing something’s going on and trying to silently ask him what his face means with her face. And then Steve’s trying to figure out what her face means and they’re getting nowhere. But before they can sort anything out at that moment, Nancy yells at them to hurry up and catch up (partly because they really have fallen behind and now completely stopped walking and partly because she’s still not sure what to say to Eddie after that and can’t decide if it’s worse to play along and pretend she didn’t hear it or say something to try to make him less noticeably fidgety since he said it)
So Steve and Robin jog to catch up and by the time they do, Steve’s already decided to start chatting Eddie up some more as soon as they’ve caught up with him because hey maybe this whole Vecna bullshit doesn’t have to completely derail his desperate search for a relationship after all and really this is a far better idea than hitting on Nancy just because his default setting is to be hitting on someone and he’s obviously not going to pick Robin
You know, out of all my brother's friends, you're my favorite. You've always been my favorite.
NANCY WHEELER and DUSTIN HENDERSON in STRANGER THINGS
The kids getting suspicious of Eddie and Steve after Eddie makes some dig about Steve’s taste in music or what he’s wearing so Steve responds “bite me, Munson” and Eddie just grabs Steve’s arm, shoves his sleeve up, and chomps into Steve’s forearm before he can even consider the consequences of his complete lack of impulse control that probably would have been more advisable to keep to when he was alone with Steve
It’s not Eddie responding to bite me with actually biting Steve without a second thought that gets them suspicious though. Eddie does weird impulsive shit just because people wouldn’t expect it all the time. Sure, they think biting Steve is grosser than his usual stuff but they’re not reading anything into it beyond Eddie being Eddie and okay gross he’s pulling a whole vampire act at the cost of having to bite Steve until Eddie’s eyes go all wide as he realizes what he has done in front of the flock of children and he starts stammering something barely half coherent that mostly amounts to “I just…” with no actual context while visibly flustered
Eddie’s reaction to his own action is only half of the suspiciousness though because really it’s the combination of that and Steve having some stupid dopey smile on his face after being bitten until he notices everyone looking at him questioningly and then immediately switching it up to putting on an annoyed act and grumbling “Jesus Christ, Eddie, you can’t just go around biting people” that really gets the kids asking questions
STRANGER THINGS 5.08 — Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up
