Is fanfiction where one or more characters are fat ok?

And how do I "submit" something? Is tagging you in something I share on my blog ok?

Hello!

Fanfiction is not accepted unless you change the characters’ names. This is because it’s impossible for both us and the readers to know all the source materials so we would probably feel like we don’t really understand everything that’s being said in the text.

Fiction where one character is fat is fine. We would just like it if the weight was mentioned in the text at least a couple of time and it was clear that the other character is fat, not so that the weight is mentioned in an author’s note and otherwise not mentioned in the story at all.

There should be a button on our profile that says Submit. Though you are also welcome to tag us so we can share the post.

Hear me out… fat characters in fiction should be common.

Over half of earth’s population is fat and you can’t write a single fat character?

When I worked in my school magazine at one point we had 6 fat writers including me in our 20 something group of people, and you can’t write a single fat character? Bro

i haven’t read a single published novel and have read only a handful of online novels with fat main characters over the years and it’s really grating.

i’m on a mission to write a lot of fat characters because goddammit we deserve it 💪

On a more serious note. Do you understand how it feels to never see fat people outside of a rare few people championing for representation unapologetically. Or negative news. We are always seen when something horrible is said about us. I see fat people acknowledged when people talk about fatphobia. I see fat people acknowledged when there's a negative stereotype in fiction. I see fat people acknowledged when it's about weight loss. And weight loss. And weight loss. And the obesity epidemic.

Do you not feel exhausted. Do you not feel dreadful. I heard a fucking weight loss pill ad from the radio. On the bus. I couldn't tune that out. It's everywhere. Do you not feel hurt? Do you not stop for a second and think, Hey. Where are all the fat people. And WHY. Please think about it. Just think about it at least. Everyone is skinny. Everything is about skinninness. "Beautiful" Is about Skinny. "Healthy" is about skinny. "Good person", "Wealthy", "Normal" is made about skinny. Is this not endlessly exhausting and horrifying.

I'm tired. I'm really tired.

One reason Bigfatliterature was recently started was to gather a community that writes more fat representation into literature.

We are tired of reading books and not seeing fat characters, or only seeing fat characters represented in fiction as r*pist creeps or antagonistic dumb chubbies.

My favority types of literature are queer literature and Chinese literature, and queer Chinese literature is filled with dumb chubby antagonists who are only ever on the way of the protagonists. The chubby bully stereotype is all over Chinese literature.

Meanwhile in Western novels, the chubby bully sterotype isn’t that common, but fatphobia is still rampant. The word fat is thrown in randomly sometimes as a joke or an insult or a fear of the main character with an eating disorder. Fat characters are non-existent, or if they exist, they exist to represent a kink in one-shot p*rn stories (I’m not kink-shaming, but I’m tired of either not seeing fat characters or sometimes rarely seeing fat kink, as someone who’s not into any food or body related kinks and who just wants to read a good fleshed out non-p*rn story that has a fat main character).

Us Bigfatliterature hope to gather stories with fat characters into our blog so that fat readers will finally get the representation we need and make people finally feel heard.

Bigfatliterature’s First Monthly Writing Prompt!

Us Bigfatliterature are a writing blog that’s meant for you guys to submit your original works to us so we can gather a community full of amazing works with fat characters and voices.

And today, we are sharing our first monthly writing prompt:

The main character hates social interaction. But oh no, one day they wake up next to a magical cat who seems keen on making them interact with other people! How does the main character cope? And what’s up with the weird cat?

No word limit for this month’s prompt! Submit your story before the 1st of June. Our favorite story will get a shout-out from us and (hopefully) fame from other Tumblr peeps! :D Just remember that the story has to have at least one fat main character for your submission to be included in this blog.

Please don’t send me asks or submissions that are not genuine, but make fun of fat people, etc. Your ask or submission will not get shared to the public and you will just seem like a miserable person in my eyes and my eyes only. My asks aren’t a way for you to rant about fat people, this blog is about literature. If you think fat people shouldn’t have literature about ourselves and instead make fat representation a moral issue in the name of health and anonymously come to a literature blog to whine about fat people, especially if you try to disguise your whining about fat people existing into a genuine literature ask, then shame on you.

If you want to be miserable then don’t do it anonymously in a way that only one person on this earth sees your message. I am not the representative of all fat people on this Earth and you’re just making an ass out of yourself by bothering one singular literature blog about your hatred for fat people.

What you can send me:

You can send me anything that depicts fatness in a positive OR neutral way. A fat character in your submission doesn’t have to be a hero, they can also be an anti-hero, as long as their fatness is not depicted as a negative trait. Your submission can critique fatphobia and oppression, or your submission can be light and just feature a fat character/fat characters in a central position in the story. Essays and poems are welcome as well :)
