Quickly finishing the analysis of the imitation art
I will here quickly list some interesting things in the few remaining pieces I didn't get to in time. I'm doing this because I don't like to leave things unfinished yet I don't have the motivation to work on something dead.
Grace's piece: many graces, one wielding a bat and all hurt. I heard that the leaks said she was in a gang, so that's what it likely meant. The sign says History repeats, which was one of the game's core theme. The word A friend likely means she was looking for friendship, or that her friendship with her gang was an important part of her character.
Jean's piece: his crew, one of the rare case with different people, and someone with a gun pointing at them. either his crew of pirates got caught, or he betrayed them. A secret is likely both the fact that he's a criminal and the [Leak or betrayal depicted]
Cassidy: I heard she was the mastermind. The two cassidies mean she's likely haunted by her past. The spiders crawling up likely symbolise past deeds. A decision is likely the decision of joining the group that makes the killing game.
Cara's piece: likely means she was supposed to be a mystery to be solved and linked to murder or deaths. Notable that her animal seem to the human. A reason likely means she's the reason for the killing game.
I apologize for the bad writing and lack of precision, but I really don't wanna work on something for a dead game. It was fun, and may all go on to greener pastures.

Analysis of Project Eden's Garden imitation pieces part 13

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this thirteenth post analyze Ingrid Grimwall's imitation piece.
In this piece, we see Ingrid surrounded by 13 hands, lacking pupils, and with the letter D written on her clothes.
I'll start with the connection to the number 13. That number is both the number of hands, and the meaning of D in hexadecimal. From what I've seen, that number is often interpreted as meaning that Ingrid will be the next victim, so that she would die when there are still 13 other students.
However, the hands are not necessarily those of the other students in the game. We see in her Free Time Events that her family is important to her. As such, it is possible that she has 13 siblings, a quite large family.
Now, apart from the number of hands, those hands could mean two things. Either they are reaching for her, or they are holding her. As such, and the answer to the question "What are you?" being "An obligation.", might mean that she feels like she has an obligation to either show a good example, or to support others. The others in question may be the students, and/or her family.
While D could be another instance of 13, it could also be 4, as it is the fourth letter of the alphabet. Four can be a sign of bad luck, as can be 13, so that also contribute to the theory that she'll die next chapter.
The last two minor details from the first page are Ingrid's lack of pupils, and the background. The absence of pupil could be to imply lack of soul or lack of veracity, same as it would in Diana's and Cassidy's pieces.
The background looks like a forest at night. That might be another part of her backstory, as a quick search seems to indicate that forests are important in Texas, which is where Ingrid's accent comes from according to the wiki.
Now, about the second page, with the silhouette of a lion. Two things seems important: the smile and lack of eye, and the mane.
The absence of eye in an animal who usually has them seems important. Only two other silhouettes are in this situation : Mark's alligator and the sheep part of Wolfgang. However, of those two, only mark's also has a visible mouth. I think it can be interpreted as categorizing both Ingrid and Mark as people who express emotions without feeling them. However, I am not confident in this analysis.
As for the lion's mane, it seems notable as lionesses don't usually have them. As such, if the lion is meant to symbolize Ingrid, it would imply that her story has an element of gender role, even if we still don't know what. That would fit, as to my knowledge blacksmithing is a very masculine practice.
In conclusion, we can theorize that something bad will happen to Ingrid because of the abundance of unlucky numbers, regardless of if we interpret the D as a 4 or a 13. It is also likely that she ends up as the victim of chapter 2, again because of the 13. However, it is also possible that she simply has 13 siblings. There is also uncertainty on if she thinks she should be a model or a support for others, and if those others are the students, her family, or both. It is also highly probable that she has trouble with emotions, either expressing emotions she doesn't feel or not feeling much. And lastly, gender roles might play a part in her story. In my next post, I'll analyze Grace Madison's imitation piece.
Analysis of Project Eden's Garden imitation pieces part 12

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this thirteenth post analyze Jett Dawson's imitation piece.
In this piece, we can see Jett holding a trophy, his helmet broken and his face on fire. The trophy shows a reflection which is notably different from Jett's appearance. There is a lot of writing, both on the trophy, and hidden in the piece, so small as to be difficult to see.
I have asked someone I know to slightly modify the image to make those words easier to see:

And there is one instance of "TELL THEM THE TRUTH", which you can find under his left shoulder pad.
I will start by saying that the trophy here likely symbolizes a victory in a race. The fact that Jett is burning here indicates that this trophy is likely the one from the race that scarred him, as is mentioned in his profile.
On the trophy, there is written "CONFESS" and "HERE IT". The second inscription is however not fully visible, but I will here analyze it as if it ended by "IS", which I believe makes the most sense given the size of that which is obstructed.
I believe those words imply that Jett wasn't actually the victim of the accident, but rather the culprit.
That is not the only reason to believe that Jett didn't win fairly.
Jett's motif animal is the coyote. The coyote, in many native American cultures, is seen as a trickster. As such, it might be notable that a character with a goofy personality has it as his motif.
The hidden words, being many instances of "WHY" and "TELL THEM THE TRUTH", also have the implication of guilt. The "WHY"s, however, have also another possible meaning : that either him or his victim(s) does not understand why he did it. That is also corroborated by the second page, having the answer to "What are you?" be "A mistake.", which might also imply that he regrets it.
Now, to analyze the second page more fully. It has two coyotes, one with an open eye and the other with it closed. They both have one paw forward, with a claw visible. The paw forward may represent either attack and hostility, when interpreted as a lunge, or it could be another indicator of shadiness, when seen as sneaking about. The claw could either be there for anatomical correctness, or it could mean danger.
Now, to analyze the final part of the piece: the reflection in the trophy. It can be seen two ways: either it is Jett, or it is his victim.
The reflection has got both of its eyes, doesn't seem to be on fire, and has wide eyes with small pupils, which I think is a sign of fear in humans.
If it is Jett, it could be his public image, a cleaner, more innocent version of himself, in which he is not the cause of the accident and rather a victim.
If it is his victim, it might be here to show that they didn't see it coming, that they were taken by surprise.
In conclusion, we can see in this piece a side of Jett far more in concordance with his motif animal, rather than the goofiness he shows in the first chapter. He appears to have caused the accident that left him scarred, all for a victory. He seems to have lied about it, but he might regret it. His victim also seems to have likely a strong importance in his backstory, though we don't know enough to say with certainty. I will add that all this make him a possible blackened in a future trial, as "goofy guy with surprising talent for manipulation" would make for a great culprit. In my next post, I will analyze Ingrid Grimwall's imitation piece.

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this twelfth post analyze Kai Monteago's imitation piece.
The piece depicts Kai on the floor of a bathroom surrounded by butterflies and three mirrors. He is in simple clothes, has his natural hair color instead of having it dyed, and has a turned off phone nearby. His head is over the toilet like he was puking. He is also barefoot.
I will start by analyzing the many butterflies. There are 13 of them, an unlucky number. That number of butterflies also appears on the second page, though most are quite obscured there. I edited the image to show them more clearly:
Firstly, 13 is known as an unlucky number. As such, the abundance of this number could imply bad luck.
Secondly, the fact that there is 13 butterflies in both pages is actually surprising, since at least one likely symbolizes Kai himself. However, this can be interpreted as meaning that he observes himself in a third person point of view, exterior to himself.
Thirdly, we can here develop the same theory as with some of the other characters, that the number hints at the death order. Here, I think it would be analyzed as him dying when there are still 12 other students, making him die as the killer of the second chapter, or as the second victim of that same chapter.
I'll now analyze the second page more generally. The fact that the other butterflies are hidden seems to be here to put more emphasis on Kai, and to maybe hint that Kai might not fully perceive other people, or he might just be self-centered.
Two of the butterflies are in part on top of the central butterfly. I believe this means that two students will have a strong impact on Kai. While we can guess that one of those is Damon, we don't have enough information to infer the second one.
The answer to "What are you?" here is "A cycle." . I don't think we know enough about Kai to guess what the cycle is exactly, though I think it might be related to his lack of real friends.
Now, the imitation piece itself. Firstly, Kai himself. He is in simpler clothes than usual, he doesn't have his jewelry, and he doesn't have his shoes. He also has his natural hair color.
I think the clothes and hair color are here to imply that this is him beyond the mask he usually wears. The lack of jewelry might imply his lack of friends, as we know from his Free Time Events that at least one of his ring was a gift from a friend. The lack of shoes might imply instability.
Also about shoes, we can see in the top left mirror someone's legs, wearing pants who are not Kai's usual ones, and with shoes that while similar to his real ones, are different. In the killing game, we can see him wearing black shoes with a white back, while here the shoes have white in front. This can be interpreted to mean that he is watched by an inverse, or at least different, version of himself, which I believe would be his online persona.
Now, on to Kai's position. He is laying on the floor, his head resting atop the toilet. I believe this position implies that he is sick or unwell in some manner. The most likely possibility is sick from loneliness, but he might simply have an actual illness that we still haven't learnt.
And now, lastly, the turned off phone. I believe it is here simply to indicate that this is him without the internet.
Now, two things I wasn't able to analyze. First is the second mirror from the left. There is one butterfly being reflected in a mirror. I don't know what it could mean.
Secondly, the third mirror. I simply am unsuccessful at understanding what is represented here.
In conclusion, we can see in this piece that Kai might be unlucky and he might be the culprit of the second chapter. The piece however puts a lot of emphasis on his loneliness and a distinction between him offline and online, both through the mirror and the turned off phone. And finally, the piece shows that Kai is sick, though we still don't know if that is simply because of his loneliness or if he has an actual illness, be it physical or psychological. In my next post, I will analyze Jett Dawson's imitation piece.

I remember little to nothing about it, heck I wasn’t even aware of it until my mom first told me, but she says that when I was abt like 3-4 years old I carried a woody doll with me quite literally everywhere. I was so obsessed with it that I apparently considered him my boyfriend and was genuinely in love with him for whatever reason…
It all ended when my cousin stole him and took it with her back home. Don’t know how to describe it, but it explains a lot more me than I thought. Doesn’t stop it from being the most embarrassing part of my life though.
I have such Sayotsugu brainrot that it affected my taste in color schemes (I'm a sucker for anything with a blue-and-brown color scheme), right down to the walls and decor of my room.

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this eleventh post analyze Wolfgang Akire's imitation piece.

In this piece, we can see two Wolfgang, one wearing a crown and with wolfish features trying to stab the other.
I will start by giving names to both Wolfgang, to help with the rest of this post. The one with the crown will be K!Wolfgang, for king, and the one with the sheep pin will be V!Wolfgang, for victim.
I will start by analyzing the second page. It depicts an upside-down wolf, seemingly barking, and a sheep looking forward. The answer to the question "What are you?" is "Not like you."
The wolf appears to symbolize K!Wolfgang, and the sheep V!Wolfgang. This can be seen in multiple things : their position, the presence of the sheep and wolf motifs on V!Wolfgang and K!Wolfgang, the eye of the wolf and lack of it for the sheep.
As such, we can be quite sure that they each represent part of Wolfgang.
As for the answer, "Not like you.", it is quite peculiar. It is the only second page to not respect the pattern. All the others are two words, an indefinite article (a or an) followed by a noun. Wolfgang's doesn't respect this pattern. This could be analyzed to mean that he is nothing in himself, he is only unlike somebody else. The most likely possibilities are his parents : either his father or his mother. I don't think we have the necessary information to be sure about this, but I don't believe it is necessary to understand this piece.
As for the animals, I think both are here to symbolize a part of Wolfgang : the wolf is his cutthroat self, while the sheep is his kind, compassionate, and trusting self.
I will now analyze K!Wolfgang. He is wearing his usual clothes, but his suit is unbuttoned. He has wide open eyes, a stabbing implement in his hands, a crown, fangs and a tail.
We can see that he has his usual clothes, and not his father's, by looking at the details : the little pieces of what I think is metal on the wrists and shoulders, the tie has a pattern, and his undershirt is white. As those clothes also look nothing like what we have for his mother, I believe we can take this to mean that he is successful at being different from whichever of his parent he wants to distance himself from.
The unbuttoned shirt and wide open eyes are most likely here to imply madness or fury. This could indicate that his cutthroat attitude might come from a place of emotion, most likely anger.
The wolf traits, fangs and tail, in addition to simply helping us interpret him as the wolf, could also be seen as meaning that this aspect of him is hidden. Indeed, the tail is not all that visible, and his fangs are not visible unless you look closely at his face.
And lastly, the crown most likely imply two things : one, the cutthroat Wolfgang is also the leader Wolfgang, and two, that he has quite the ego. Both of those interpretations are also corroborated by the game, in which we can see that he easily takes the leading role in the group, and uses it to exclude Eva and Damon.
Now, I'll analyze V!Wolgang's appearance. He is crying and sweating, holding a cross on a necklace, he also has a sheep pin.
I will start by saying that crying and sweating are obvious indicators of high emotional stress in humans, and most likely means he is panicking.
His cross on a necklace, combined with his sheep pin, might indicate that he represents the innocent part of Wolfgang, naive and trusting.
And his sheep pin is different to the one he wears in the killing game. The ears are not pointed in the same direction : his usual pin has ears downward, while in the piece the ears are upward.
I will here use 1moreff-creator's analysis, as I don't have anything to add to it :
"I’ve found very conflicting reports on what ear position means in sheep (evidenced by this Reddit post where there's three completely different answers, and one of them includes "depends on the breed"), so it's a bit hard to analyze. One source claims horizontal ears, which is kinda what we see in killing game, are possibly connected to relaxation and comfort. Which makes some amount of sense, as animals usually put their ears up when they're alert. Given that Imitation Sheep Pin Wolfgang is about to get stabbed, I could see why he'd be more "alert" than the Wolfgang in killing game, though it's a bit odd since I wouldn't exactly say that killing game Wolfgang was particularly "relaxed and comfortable."
Instead, I would relate it more to the fact that a sheep's ears being down can be an indicator of the sheep being in pain (hey here's another source!). It makes sense to think that killing game Wolfie is in some sort of pain, given I doubt anyone's doing particularly well there. Meanwhile, Imitation Wolfie looks quite happy in a liberated sorta way, so I can see the angle that he is no longer in pain.
In fact, you could probably combine both interpretations. Killing game Wolfgang is in distress aka pain (seen by the issues he was working through in his breakdown with Diana among other things), which would be the "real" way to read his pin, but he pretended to be relaxed and have everything under control, so most of the rest of the cast "reads his pin" the other way. Meanwhile, Imitation Sheep Pin Wolfgang has no reason to pretend to be relaxed, as he seems to be free from pain and worries, so his ears are in what would be the natural position for his breed... I guess?"
Using their analysis shows us that the meaning is difficult to parse, but that we can take it to mean a difference in the emotional state of V!Wolfgang and the one we see in the killing game.
I will now finish this analysis by trying to explain why K!Wolfgang is trying to kill V!Wolfgang. I believe the attempted murder here symbolizes usurpation, as in a part of him taking center stage. As previously mentioned, I believe that K!Wolfgang is him at his most cutthroat, whereas V!Wolfgang is him at his most trusting. As such, I think this piece shows us that in the end, mistrust won inside Wolfgang (which would be why he brought a knife into the boiler room)
In conclusion, this piece shows us an internal conflict inside Wolfgang between his cutthroat self and his trusting self, won by the former. However, even when he is at his most cutthroat, he isn't the same as one of his parents, though we don't know if this refers to his father or mother. In my next post, I'll analyze Kai Monteago's imitation piece.
Analysis of Project Eden's Garden imitation pieces part 9

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this tenth post analyze Diana Venicia's imitation piece.
In this piece, we can see Diana looking at her own reflection in a mirror, and drawing a heart with condensation. The background seems to be in a building, most likely in a bathroom. The second page shows two silhouettes of chameleons on branches.
I will analyze this piece according to two different viewpoints. Either the reflection here symbolizes Diana's inner self, or it symbolize her past. I will start paragraphs related to the former with 1, and those related to the later with 2.
I will start by analyzing the difference between the Diana and her reflection. While we can see most of the reflection, we can only see Diana's right arm and her left hand. That is however sufficient to notice that she has her usual bracelet while the reflection doesn't. As with the other pieces, the animal motif is the thing that is common to all Ultimates, and as such symbolizes the title of "Ultimate". But if we look at her sprite in the game, we can see that the bracelet is oriented the wrong way, with the chameleon's head toward the hand instead of being toward her shoulder.
1 : Diana could see herself as not really being an Ultimate, maybe simply being a young girl at heart.
2 : That would position the reflection to be her before she got her talent, when she was just some girl who is good at make up.
This inversion of the bracelet could mean that the chameleon here symbolizes either the inverse of what it means usually, or it could symbolize the negative aspect instead of the positive ones. The positive meaning of the chameleon, as was explained by Diana after the first chapter's trial, is change and adaptation. As such, the inverse would be stagnation, continuation even in the face of inadequacies. However, the negative aspect the chameleon can represent are shyness, wanting to disappear in the background and wanting to be like our surroundings.
The second visible difference between the reflection and her usual self is her necklace. Her usual outfit lacks such necklace, and none of the official artwork I could find of her in other outfits had it either. As such, I believe it can be assumed that this is another of the difference between Diana and her reflection. The heart usually symbolizes either emotions or feelings.
1 : That could mean that she is the kind of person with very strong emotions, very passionate.
2 : That could mean that she used to be very passionate, but that she is less passionate nowadays.
Now on to what Diana is doing in this piece. Firstly, she is holding her left hand against the mirror.
1 : That could imply that she is in tune with her inner self, that she knows and likes who she is deep down.
2 : That could imply that she likes who she used to be, that she has happy memories.
With her right hand, she is drawing a heart in condensation. While it can be analyzed the same way as the previous thing, it can also be noted that condensation is not a lasting medium for art.
1 : As such, it could mean that her appreciation for herself is fragile.
2 : As such, it could mean that her appreciation for the past is fragile.
Now, on to the mirror and the room.
The piece appears to depict a bathroom, from the tiles on the walls and the prominent mirror. The bathroom is usually a place of isolation, of privacy. This might mean that the introspection this piece represent is something she doesn't say to people, which is also corroborated by her FTE, where she appears hesitant to talk about herself.
The mirror has some weird effects on it. Most visible on Diana's reflection, there is an effect similar to the glitch effect on Toshiko's piece. I believe this is to imply a degree of imperfection in the reflection.
1: This could mean that she doesn't have a perfect grasp of her inner self, that she doesn't know her own inner thoughts.
2: This could mean that she doesn't have an accurate memory, that either she forgot something important or that she has a memory of something that didn't happen (or that happened differently to what she remembers)
Now, for the last part of this analysis : the second page. There are three things to analyze here : the answer, the chameleons and the branches.
The answer to the question "What are you?" is "A change.".
1: The change might be that Diana doesn't just tries to hid her inner self, she might also want to change it.
2: The change might be a change from what she used to be.
The chameleons themselves have two visible difference : the top chameleon has a smooth back and closed eyes, while the bottom one got spikes and open eyes. As the words "A change." are between both chameleon, I believe we can extrapolate that the top chameleon is before the change and that the bottom one is after it. The spike and smooth back likely symbolize the capacity or inability to resist pressure, respectively. It can however be noted that in actual chameleons, spikes are used to help in camouflage, so it could actually mean that her after the change is more of a lie, less true to herself.
1: The open eyes could mean that while Diana is naturally trusting or relaxed, that when she is around other people she is more on her guard and less relaxed. The spikes could either mean that she is, in her inner self, less aggressive than what she looks like, that she has less of a backbone. However, if the spikes are here for camouflage, it could be that she tries to bland in with the background, to be forgotten and overlooked.
2: The open eyes could mean that Diana was more trusting or relaxed, but that she became more wary as time passed. The spikes could either mean that she was more passive when she was younger, or it could mean that she tries more to bland in now.
Now, for the branches. Amidst the imitation pieces, only two other characters have items in their second page : Desmond and Ulysses. Both items are part of their first page : the first has the six arrows, while the second has a debris of the statue. Diana is different, as her first page contains neither trees nor branches. As such, I believe the branches are symbolic of something else in her piece. I think it is here for her make up, that she does wear in the first page. I interpret that to mean that both version of herself use make up as a support for themselves.
1: It could mean that she uses her make up both to support her appearance but also to help her feel better.
2: It could mean that she was already using make up as a support before becoming an Ultimate.
In conclusion, Diana's piece is difficult to interpret without more context about her character. It could mean that she has a good but imperfect relation with her inner self, and that she uses make up both to feel better and to shape her appearance, and is naive and trusting by nature , or it could mean that she has a good but imperfect relation with her past self, that she used to be more trusting, and that she used make up in the past as much as today. The inverted chameleon bracelet could mean either a will to disappear and to be overlooked, or an absence of changes and adaptation. In the next post, I will analyze Wolfgang Akire's imitation piece.

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this ninth post analyze Mark Berskii's imitation piece.
This piece contains two persons. One is bedridden on a hospital bed, with an oxygen mask and electrodes, while the other is crying with red eyes and a fearful expression. The room they are in has a cloud drawing on the walls.
The clouds most likely mean that they are near death, close to the afterlife.
Both individuals in this piece are Mark. This can be seen in the fact that they both have his peculiar hair, with green at the end.
The Mark that is crying will be referred here as C!Mark and the one that is bedridden will be called B!Mark.
C!Mark has his animal motif on him, with his shirt being the same one that he has in the killing game, with the color of an alligator. His jacket his absent, however.
B!Mark is shirtless, having electrodes on his torso. He is wearing an oxygen mask.
This seems to symbolize that Mark has two side, one sick and the other talented, as the animal motifs are the common point amidst the Ultimates in the game, and so C!Mark is most likely the version of him that is associated with his talent, as it is the version with his animal motif.
Now to analyze the medical equipment. I have to say that I am not a doctor, and I got no idea how to research this kind of things, so this analysis might be slightly short, and I may have made mistakes. Please tell me both my errors and what I've overlooked if you happen to know more on this subject.
The oxygen mask seem to indicate that B!Mark has trouble breathing. That could be interpreted to mean that Mark is feeling drowned in problem, that he has no room to breath.
He has both electrodes and a sphygmomanometer, an armband used to measure blood pressure. This would be both things used to measure symptoms linked to stress, such as high blood pressure and accelerated heart beat. This could be interpreted to mean Mark is highly stressed.
The blood bag on the transfusion pole is not connected to him : the part that should be connected by tube is instead a red spike. This could indicate that he doesn't have the help he needs, that he feels neglected.
However, all those interpretations take an a priori that they are metaphorical. Those medical equipments could also simply be things he needs because of a sickness we haven't heard of, as of now, in the game.
There is also something I failed to identify on the transfusion pole that looks like a medical instrument. I don't know what it is or what it could mean.
As for the second piece, there is an alligator with an open maw and the answer to the question "What are you?" being "A choice.". This seems to indicate that Mark has the choice between the C!Mark and B!Mark.
In conclusion, we can see two Mark who seem to symbolize his talented self as an Ultimate, and his self that is sick. The sickness of this other self could be mental or physical. The second page appears to mean that Mark has the choice to be either talented or sick. I, however, have to say I had difficulties analyzing this piece, and as such hope that somebody with more understanding of medical science tries to explain this piece, or we can simply wait for the full game to have more context. In my next post, I'll analyze Diana Venicia's imitation piece.

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this eighth post analyze Ulysses Wilhelm's imitation piece.
In this piece, we can see Ulysses sitting by a broken marble statue. He is writing in his notebook using a quill made of an owl feather. The statue has both roots and fungi growing on it. the floor appears to be covered in water. The second page depicts a sleeping owl and an object reminiscent of the parts of the statue in the other page.
I will start by analyzing Ulysses himself. He is looking away from the camera, and his face is fully unseen. This could be symbolic of his shyness and unwillingness to speak up, not wanting to bring attention to himself.
In his notebook, we can read multiple words. they are one word reminders of things in the daily life (we can see the word "Reminders:" on the top of the left page), four in the left page arranged in a square pattern and three in the right page in a vertical line.
On the left page, going from left to right and top to bottom :
Eat ; Feel ; Breath ; Shower
On the right page, going from top to bottom :
Sleep ; Brush ; Remember
The word Remember is in the process of being written by Ulysses
To analyze this, we can first assume that those reminders are not an exhaustive list, as is shown by the pattern. The fact that we can only see four and three set of reminders most likely implies that each page contains more, as we can deduce that it has at least 6 per page (two per line and 3 lines per page), to make both pages contain the same amount of words.
As for the words themselves, they mostly remind us of something we learnt in the prologue, that is that Ulysses has to write down most day-to-day stuff, like brushing his teeth. But two of the words here do not conform to this : "Feel" and "Remember". This seem to indicate that he also has to remind himself to do those things.
Also, he is in this piece in the process of writing "Remember". That seems to indicate that he hasn't finished this task, unlike the rest. That is also corroborated by what we see in the game. Ulysses seems to have difficulties remembering anything other than historical fact, like the name of his classmates.
I will now analyze the statue. It is clearly inspired by Greek statues, as the reference indicate it is inspired by the statue of Asklepios, Greek god of medicine. I will take this statue to symbolize history, or maybe just the past in general, as that seem to be a large theme of Ulysses' character.
I will start by analyzing the visible physical damage of this statue. It lacks arms, and its head fell to the floor, with the top part broken off. The lack of arms seems to indicate an incapacity to act, to affect things directly. The past is the past, and it cannot act anymore.
The lack of head is interesting, because the bust is not just lacking the head. The part until the shoulders is absent from the statue, while we can only see the head on the floor, with a little debris around but far from enough to be the missing part. This seems to indicate the loss of history through time.
As for the head itself, its top is broken. This might be to indicate the lack of memory of history, as it repeat itself again.
I will now analyze the roots and fungi on the statue. I have to say that, as I am not a biologist, I might have made mistakes in this analysis, and I would welcome anybody more knowledgeable correcting me if that is the case.
The present fungi seem to be of the polypore family. That is a kind of fungus that grows mostly on trees, both dead and alive. When it grows on trees, it is the cause of brown rot, a type of tree sickness, which might cause the tree to die. As such, it is bad news for any organism it is growing on, as it is either already dead or soon will be.
Another of the characteristics of this type of fungi is its presence almost only in old forests. That seem to indicate that here, history is depicted as old, which make sens I guess.
Polypores only grows on organic matter, as such there is two possibilities : either they are growing on the roots on the statue, or the statue is organic. If the statue is organic, that would mean that history is alive, while if it is not, that would attract attention to the fact that history is a stable and rock solid thing, unchangeable. But if it is growing on the statue, it is also notable that it means that the history is either dying or dead.
The roots do not seem to be identifiable, but they do seem to be in the same space as the fungi. Either, as mentioned earlier, the fungi is growing on the roots, or the roots are coming from the fungi. Regardless, this seems to indicate that the statue is both old and unkempt, as a statue should not have roots (nor fungi) on it if it was properly maintained. This might indicate that history is here seen as something overlooked, that not many people take notice of.
I will now analyze the two remaining details : the water and the second page.
The water on the ground is clear and still water, but seem very thin. Clear water usually symbolizes life, while still water means calm and stagnation. As such, the water here can be interpreted as a calm life. The thinness can also be interpreted to add to this that this calm life is unstable, that it can easily be perturbed.
Finally, the second page. The owl seem to be asleep, evoking Ulysses sleepiness. The object near it seem to be referencing the statue in the art. As for the answer to "What are you?", that is "A sacrifice." That seem to indicate that Ulysses view himself as a sacrifice. However, we don't have enough context to analyze this, as I believe it is something that will come about in the killing game.
In conclusion, this piece puts the spotlight on Ulysses habits, like his sleepiness and his need to write things down, and hints on his unique view of history as something old, unchanging,repeating, and distant. The second page indicates that something might happen in the killing game to make him sacrifice himself. I have to say that this analysis is based mostly on speculation, and that we should be able to be more certain of the meaning of this piece in the future. In my next post, I'll analyze Mark Berskii's imitation piece.

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this seventh post analyze Wenona's imitation piece.
I will start by describing this piece. It depicts a still body of water with lily pads lacking their flowers. In the water, five Wenona are lurking, each glancing at the camera. Their eyes are vertical slit pupils with yellow iris and black pupils. The second page shows three silhouettes of bears, one on the top, one on the left, and one on the bottom. They are positioned as if the side they are on is the ground, and each more faded than the one before them.
I will start by commenting on the fact that they are lurking in murky water. While it usually means to have problems, here we see them totally unbothered. We can extrapolate this to mean that she has many problems, but do not feel those external problems to be a cause for worries. However, there is an obstacle in this piece, and that is Wenona herself. That can be seen using the answer to "What are you?" written on the second page : "A foe." As we established in the first post in this series of analysis, we will take those answers to refer only to the characters themselves, in relation to themselves. Here, that means that Wenona is her own foe. That analysis is further supported by the rest of the piece.
Firstly, the many Wenona. In the piece, there are 5 Wenona, while the second page only got 3 bears. The Wenona in the water are identical, while the bears are different, both in their opacity and in the fact that the top bear is the only one with visible eyes. As such, I believe the multiplicity in each page mean something different : the first page means that she is her own enemy, her own competition, while the second page means that she isn't on an equal footing with herself.
For her being her own competition, that can also be seen in her eyes. Wenona here has yellow irises and black vertical slit pupils. Those type of eyes are, in nature, for ambush predators, while human eyes are made for hunting down preys in daylight. This indicate not only that Wenona is a predator, but an ambush one. specifically, one that does not hunt in pack, as social animals don't usually act as ambush predator. As such, we can guess that such an abundance of ambush predators means they are each others competition.
For her being not equal to herself, that can be seen in the common direction they are looking at. All Wenona are looking at the camera, looking at something that is, as can be guessed from the perspective, slightly above them. While it might be a stretch, I believe they are looking at the top bear of the second page. There is two reasons for this : one, it is the only other thing with eyes in this piece, and two, in the art book, if it were to be printed out, they would be on two pages who'd be facing each other.
Another reason to think she doesn't see herself as an equal, is with the second page. Each bear being more faded than the next, and the least faded one being the only one with eyes, and being placed on top, seem to indicate that this top bear is superior to the other. But the fact that they are more and more faded seem to indicate that even amidst the different Wenona, there is a hierarchy, instead of just having one be superior to the rest.
I will now analyze the last part of this piece, that is the lily pads. The water lilies that are notably absent here would have meant purity and rebirth. As such, their absence mean the contrary : impurity and stagnation or final death. I believe this means two things : Wenona is impure in some way, most likely linked to what we learn in her FTE, and that she feels like she is stagnating. In her FTE, we learn of some of the underhanded methods she used to get her fortunes. As for stagnation, I don't think we know anything about this, but it is a theme that comes back in her echo art.
In conclusion, this piece shows us that Wenona is living a life full of problem, but her own worse enemy is herself, being her own competition. As an ambush predator, she doesn't work well with others, and she considers herself superior to others, and even superior to herself. In my next post, I'll analyze Ulysses Wilhelm's imitation piece.

Analysis of Project Eden's Garden imitation pieces part 5

In this series of posts, I will be analyzing the imitation pieces. I have to preface this by saying that I am not the best, for I am neither an art critic nor a painter. I will miss details, and I hope people will be kind enough to point those out. I will in this sixth post analyze Toshiko Kayura's imitation piece.
In this art we see two girls. Almost all of my analysis will concern them, for this piece doesn't really have much else. I will, like with Eva's and Damon's pieces, name them to facilitate the comprehension of this post. The one on the right will be R!Toshiko and the one on the left will be L!Toshiko. I will start by explaining why I think those are both Toshiko. The two of them have the same hair style as she does in the killing game, without the ribbons. They are also both shown as flamingos in the second page. As such, I am confident in the fact that they are both in some way Toshiko.
I will start by explaining what my interpretation is of the presence of two Toshiko in this piece. I think that two interpretations of this piece are feasible, but that we, as of now, lack the necessary information to chose between them. The second page shows us the answer to the question "What are you?" being "A wish.". I think this is a wish for transformation, but the question for our analysis will then be to know if it is R!Toshiko wanting to be perceived as L!Toshiko, or L!Toshiko wanting to live as R!Toshiko. I will describe both possibilities, as I cannot decide which is the most believable. I will start each paragraph pertaining to one or the other of those interpretation with either 1 for the right to left, or 2 for the left to right.
I will now describe each difference I can find between the two of them, and analyze them according to both interpretation cited earlier.
The first and most apparent is the difference in clothing. L!Toshiko is in a yukata or kimono similar to hers in the killing game, but with full flowers instead of petals on the top part, and geometrical patterns instead of flamingos on the lower part. R!Toshiko is wearing a more casual outfit, maybe even a school uniform, with exposed legs and shoes. That can be interpreted as L!Toshiko symbolizing professionalism and work, and the strict order that comes with it symbolized by geometry, while R!Toshiko symbolize casualness, normality and school.
1 : This shows us that she wants to be seen as a professional, as she indicated quite clearly in the game. The school-like appearance of R!Toshiko is here seen as bad, indicating a simplicity and normalcy she dislikes
2 : This shows us that she wants to be more free from the restriction of her job. The geometrical pattern shows us that she is constrained in a role, as the flowers are contained within the hexagons. R!Toshiko's has freer legs, showing that she is more free to act than L!Toshiko.
Secondly, the difference in the face coverings. R!Toshiko has a smear effect on her mouth, while L!Toshiko has a cloth mask. While we do not know why Toshiko hides her mouth, we can still analyze this generally. L!Toshiko's mask is a way to hide the mouth through something physical, implying most likely her fan, and her social mask, as in the way she present herself. R!Toshiko's smear shows us that whatever is hidden should not be seen, that it is unsettling. The incomplete face is most likely here to unsettle, by hiding one of the essential part of the face. The fact that the smear totally obscure it might also mean that even if she didn't hide it, it wouldn't be seen. The fact that the right flamingo in the second page has more than just its beak covered in a glitch effect, clearly here to remind us of the smear effect, seem to indicate that whatever it is, what has happened to her mouth most likely impacts her deeply psychologically.
1 : This shows us that she really doesn't want to show her mouth. She prefers to use something physical to hide it, like her usual fan or this mask.
2 : This shows us that she doesn't like having to hide her face, but she wants even less to have her mouth seen. She wishes for the courage to walk around without a mask.
Now, for their attitudes and action. Here, R!Toshiko is active while L!Toshiko is passive. R!Toshiko has a sparkler she is holding downward, while L!Toshiko has her hands on her chin. Both are looking at the sparkler. R!Toshiko is active, meaning she takes the initiative, while L!Toshiko is passive, meaning she observes others' actions. That is also corroborated by the left flamingo in the second page having a closed eye, seeming asleep.
1 : This mean that Toshiko wants to be more active, to take more initiatives.
2 : This mean that Toshiko wants to be more passive, to let others take the initiative.
I'll now start talking about what they have in common.
Fistly, their hair. While I think the buns are here simply to make us realize who they are, I think the lack of ribbons is interesting. If who she is currently and who she wants to be lack ribbons, where do those come from? I think their absence from this piece imply that the ribbons are an element foreign to her : they are the impressions others have of her, that of a young girl.
Secondly, the flowers. Both Toshiko have a single flower, but L!Toshiko also has more flowers on her kimono. The flower seem to be the cherry blossom. It symbolizes quite many things, like the fleeting and ephemeral life and the Japanese patriotism, but also grace and feminine beauty and power. I do think the meaning that there is more of those on L!Toshiko's outfit, and that she has an actual one in her hair, shows that she is more connected to what this symbolize.
1 : This shows us that Toshiko wants to be less associated with femininity, as is also shown by the total lack of her ribbons in this piece, and that she doesn't want to be ephemeral, to die young.
2 : This shows us that Toshiko wants to be more feminine, but also is more linked with the Asian theming of her character in general (kimono, fan, etc)
In conclusion, I found two possible ways to analyze this piece. Either Toshiko feels like she is trapped in her role as the Ultimate matchmaker, that she wants to be more proactive and live a long life, without hiding who she is or her mouth or it could mean that Toshiko wants to be more mature, more passive and more feminine, less active and she wants to keep her mouth hidden. In the next post, I will analyze Wenona's imitation piece.

The piece is a depiction of Eloise fleeing and looking back toward what she is running from. She is wearing simple clothes and no shoes. It is foggy, and there is a blurry gate in the background.
The main question of this art is what, or who, she is running from. I think the second page can show us the answer. In it, we see two silhouettes of swans, the bottom one crying while the top one doesn't show any particular emotion. Something to remember is that swans are violent animals, often fighting amidst themselves. Another thing to note is that the presence of multiple animals in the silhouettes is not something they do every time, and so most likely mean something. I think it is here to symbolize that Eloise "hunts" herself. That can also explain the answer given here to the question "What are you?", that is "A hunt." . As such, Eloise hunts herself, but what does this mean? I believe it means she is fleeing from another part of herself.
Those who played through her FTE know that she can be quite aggressive when she wants to. I believe that the part of her that she is fleeing from is this aggressiveness. A part of this is the presence of purple flowers in the field. It could be two things from my analysis : either purple sage, or lavender. Lavender has old symbolism of distrust and a new one of silence and devotion. Purple sage has symbolism of wisdom and spiritual awakening, and was used in cleansing rituals. Both have a connection with bad stuff that goes away, either because of historical changes in its history, or because of the cleansing of a tainted mind.
Another thing is her clothes. They are plain white, she has neither shoes nor accessories. This symbolizes vulnerability, and I think it is here to show that she is at a disadvantage in this hunt. The non aggressive part of her is trying to run away, but she doesn't even have shoes. As such, I think this says that she will lose control in the game, showing us what made all her opponents forfeit the fencing matches.
Now, for the fog and the gate. The fog is most likely here to convey the feeling of being lost, while the gate shows us the possibility of escaping the hunter, but also maybe that she is being locked with it. If we continue the previous interpretation, we can take this to mean that there is a possibility that Eloise will grow past her aggressiveness, but that she doesn't feel like she can.
Now for the last two things : the presence of a field similar to Desmond's, and the general vibe.
The field clearly shows a connection to Desmond. The presence of purple instead of green and the foggy night instead of a clear night shows us something we already knew : Eloise is far more lost and anxious than Desmond.
And now for the general vibe. It is more difficult to show this, but because of the large space taken by the mist and the field, there is generally fewer things in this piece. I do believe this is intentional, and could mean two things. Either the scarcity is symbolic, and means that she is more unilateral in her characterization than the other characters, or it could imply that there is more that isn't said, that this piece is incomplete.
In conclusion, we can interpret this piece to say that Eloise is in an internal conflict, she wants to escape her own aggressiveness but do not think herself able to do it. Her connection do Desmond is also reinforced, and it is possible that she hides something more than what we know of her, or she could be a more simple character than what we expect.
