Check out all the cute pics—somebody will win $50,000.
Going to do some Shameless self promotion here…sorry! We entered Finn in the Gerber baby contest and even if he doesn’t win the grand prize he has a shot at the “Milestone” award by votes. If you have a free minute each day and you remember, go vote for the little dude! Thanks in advance!

Got a sleepy tiger on my hands. Moments like this melt my heart
Star Wars + “Bohemian Rhapsody”by British rock band Queen = Geektastic parody of awesome proportions.
Students and faculty from the Digital Video Program at University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona took an already epic song by a legendary band and cleverly changed the lyrics to apply them to the most epic space opera of all-time. Throw in some fantastic Star Wars cosplayers performing the piece and, voila, it’s a truly exceptional work of pop culture parody.
For comparison, here’s the original “Bohemian Rhapsody” video:
And because it’s also awesome and this is a great opportunity to be reminded of it, here’s the version from Wayne’s World:

Watching BB with Allison and I've been waiting for this to happen. Favorite moment.
This is possibly the best Parks and Recreation blooper

Tonight we hosted the 2nd Pub Run with our local running store The Shoe Shack who brought a vendor on board from Brooks. Its amazing to see such a gathering with all the hard work we put into the club. It was on per as the last Pub Run we did but for sure isn’t the last. Here’s to many more!
Look what we did again!
I’ve had such a tremendous amount of support from friends and family for the Runners World Cover Search. I hit top 15 and looking at the data mining I did I don’t think I can go too much higher, but should stay there if I continue getting the votes daily and no big hitters come through.
No matter what ends up happening, I can’t express enough gratitude to everyone involved. If you have a minute, vote for me please! Bug your friends and family to get this #radrunnerdad on the cover of Runner’s World!
If you have a minute, please go vote for me!
Recap:
Yesterday was the big day for me in regards to racing. I’ve been training for the Madison ½ Marathon for quite a few months, and although I had some doubt, I felt pretty good with how it was going to go.
The race started out relatively well - I was just about on pace for the first 4 miles when I decided to grab a little water as a precaution. Shortly after there was a small climb…and the sharpest side stitch I’ve ever had in my life.
Between running at a 6:53~ pace while being an anaerobic and the stabbing pain I had to walk for the first time in a road race since my 2nd marathon. As I was trying to focus on my breathing, slowing my pace wasn’t enough and walking was almost just as unbearable. For the first time ever I thought I was going to have to truly drop out of a race.
Had it not been for another Dubuque Runner passing me by and giving me some encouragement and a little humor(thanks for not stopping and rubbing my side) I wouldn’t have been able to pick up the pace or worse yet, I would have dropped out.
The one amazing thing I have found during running is even though you can be competing, just a little encouragement from another person can really boost you through a hard trial. I decided to pay it forward on the last mile when I came up to another guy who was slowing down and gave him the encouragement and told him to keep going. He ended up getting the boost he needed and finished about 30 seconds after me and stopped by post race to give me a thanks for giving him that push he needed in the end.
Although I didn’t get the time I wanted(about 3 minutes slower) I did get a 96~ second PR and had a lot of insight or how much torture a body can go through and what you can easily take a negative and make a positive out of it.
I made it to 10.5 and thought about Finn and how many more hard things in life there are than just this one race. Raising a child will be much more challenging and that gave me a great boost just thinking about him and my family.
I end this with a quote from a visualization that I listen to from time to time before a race by Dr David Asp - “Success is in the effort, not the outcome.” I didn’t hit my sub 1:30, but the effort it took to get my time was amazing.
