Hey guys you should totally get into this thing i like. Yeah it's mid at best. It also aged poorly. You'll get nothing out of it at all. You'll like the idea of it more than the actual thing. But at least only takes half your natural lifespan to finish it
Born to be Y/N Stark with Wanda's powers but purple who is besties with Peter, builds Legos with him on the weekends and pulls pranks with Natasha while Clint hides in the vents. Goes to Stark galas and has HYDRA trauma, hugs Bucky because he needs it and is probably in some sort of weird forbidden relationship with Loki who's living in the Tower with no valid explanation, and keeps pop tarts on stock for Thor
Forced to work instead. Oh how I miss you Y/N Stark...

You either die a tumblr user who has never watched supernatural or you live long enough to get invested in the fandom like a decade too late
Hi I watched the Odyssey here are my thoughts:
1. THERE IS NO NOBODY SCENE. This is probably the MOST iconic scene I can remember from reading the odyssey and when Odysseus reveals who he is to the cyclops right before he leaves is WHY he is cursed. NOT simply because he injured a son of Poseidon or because he decided to shoot another arrow at the cyclops after blinding him. His cunning AND his pride ruin him
2. No marriage bed scene?? I'm talking about the second trial where Penelope wants to move their bed but that's impossible because the bed is still attached to the tree it was crafted from. The bed was a fact that only Penelope and Odysseus knew, and THAT got Odysseus to officially reveal himself to Penelope
3. Guys in the poem Penelope is an incredible cunning Spartan queen here in the movie she's portrayed sort of like a whining child wishing for her favorite toy (Odysseus). She was SO much more fleshed out in the poem, and so was Athena for that matter.
4. Menelaus LOVES Helen of Troy in the poem he would never have cut her face. And she likes him too she literally CHOSE HIM to be her suitor
5. In the movie Calypso felt like a perfume commercial? Like she was just hanging out. And remember kids, in the poem Odysseus and Calypso had a KID together
6. "Law of Zeus" this and "Zeus's law" that JUST CALL IT XENIA
There's so much more to talk about, but honestly I think that if Nolan was such a big fan of the Odyssey then maybe he should have made the movie feel more of an accurate love letter (it's a poem we need feeling) than the overly-loud-but-somehow-quiet action movie it turned out to be.
Things I liked: Telemachus, time period appropriate instruments, cinematography, Argus, Eumaeus, aura farming Agamemnon, Circe, the siren sequence, etc.
so I just watched the odyssey movie....
and I made this within 5 minutes of returning. so I think that sums up my thoughts on it. (though im willing to rant more if ppl want it. cause I have COMPLAINTS)
i thought the “this is the face that launched a thousand ships, although now it would maybe be five-hundred.” line was just an internet joke but apparently that's a line Menelaus actually says in Nolan's Odyssey??
Not only that the language itself sounds straight out of a marvel forcibly funny haha moment, but Menelaus? The Menelaus who all thoughout human history, from Homer, to Sappho, to Euripides, to Virgil, to Shakespeare, to Brooke, to Barth; from Classical vases to Medieval poetry to Reinessance art, has been known as the man whose sword fell from his hands at the sight of his wife after 10 years apart?
"What joy for me to hold my wife" Menelaus?
"He flung the sword away, and kissed her feet" Menelaus?
"I believe all. I understand nothing. I love you" Menelaus?
"I have no fault to find; my wife, he daughter of Zeus and Leda, is mine again, she whom her brothers on their snow-white steeds, whilst torches blazed, made my happy bride, but gods removed her from my home." Menelaus?
The Menelaus who was picked out of the suitors by Helen herself? The Menelaus who couldn't kill a begging Trojan so his brother had to do it for him? The Menelaus who rescued Odysseus and got out Patroclus' body? The Menelaus who volounteered to fight Paris one on one so everybody could go home? Who kept expressing his guilt about himself being the cause of war through every assembly he spoke at in the Iliad? Who after 10 years away at Troy, took his wife through a 7-year long journey at sea back home, where he reinstated her as the queen of Sparta? Who wept like a child in front of Telemachus recalling the war and his brother and all the friends he lost and the only consolation being his wife' gentle hand on his?
You want me to believe that man scarred Helen's face and called her only worth half the ships because of it?
I'm actually physically sick just thinking about it.
The “nobody” scene in the odyssey is absolutely not just a clever pun—it’s a character defining moment for Odysseus because he refuses to be nobody. He devised an incredible plan that worked and he could have saved his men and returned home much sooner but he just had to yell to the cyclops that he isn’t nobody—he’s Odysseus, king of Ithaca so now Poseidon knows who to curse which severely fucks up the rest of the journey.
The “nobody” scene highlights both Odysseus’s cleverness but also his arrogance and those two traits define Odysseus throughout the entire story. It’s a foundational aspect of Odysseus’s character and cutting the scene displays a shocking level of ignorance and disregard for the themes in the source material.
all the jokes about Daeron chilling in Old Town while the other targtowers were experiencing The Horrors™ in King's Landing meanwhile Daeron was being raised by known Targaryen hater Ormund Hightower experiencing levels of catholic guilt Westeros has never seen again
