I like that Percy is a funny protagonist.

Something about so many tricksters in Greek myth: and outsmarting the gods being sometimes punished, and sometimes rewarded.

Something about seeming like the wise-cracking side character in his own story. Unconventional heroes.

And something about using humour to dismantle unjust systems.

i’m still stuck on poseidon’s line from 2x08.

“there are forces more powerful than the will of the gods, my son. fate is one of them. love, another.”

this is truly just the thesis of percy jackson. this whole story is about fate and love and how these forces collide and create all these circumstances.

poseidon’s love for sally is the reason percy was born. sally’s love for percy is the reason he becomes the hero who saves the world. luke’s love for thalia and his pain in her absence is part of the reason he joins kronos. annabeth’s love for luke is the reason he takes the knife at the end of the last olympian. percy’s love for his friends drives his actions throughout the entire series. and all these things were fated to happen.

it’s like the gods are the most powerful beings in this world. and yet. love is even stronger. everything happens in this story because of love. or because of the absence of it. something even the gods can’t change or prevent. fate and love being so intertwined and being the main driving forces of the story are so important to me.

Pjo is so much more fun when you remind yourself that it’s literally middle schoolers dealing with all that.

And that the main villain we interact with is literally like fresh into adulthood. Like I’m soon going to be older than Luke ever has been and I’m like… really?

Like the crash out is valid but don’t you got class? Shouldn’t you be studying? Or at least being hungover from a frat party?

Luke would thrive if he was given the tiniest bit of support but no Chiron made him worse.

something about percy winning against ares by drawing first blood, not giving a fuck that it’s the god of war he is making an enemy out of vs him being caught totally unaware by luke and luke drawing first blood because percy hesitated, because this is his friend, because making an enemy out of a god is way more preferable over making an enemy out of a friend. percy winning against insurmountable odds vs him losing because his loyalty is truly and undoubtedly fatal.
