monster prom walkthrough: vera oberlin
This was originally going to be a walkthrough for all the prom dates, but there are… so many events, lunches, and secret endings to cover. So I decided to make a walkthrough solely for Vera Oberlin instead. If people want walkthroughs for other prom dates, I might do more. We’ll see!
Under the cut, you’ll find most if not all events, lunches, and secret endings featuring Vera. There’s a lot of events, so use Ctrl+F to find the specific one you’re looking for!
(This isn’t a complete list; I’m still working on compiling everything, so please be patient with me. Also, if you can’t find a specific event below, send me an ask and let me know—same goes for any mistakes you catch!)

Just imagine this but from a man who hasn't seen sunlight in centuries.
There was recently a copyright infringement case in YA and I need everyone to know that the following sentence was in the legal decision:
“Hot, sexy, dangerous boys, central to virtually all young adult romance novels, cannot be copyrighted.”
“Regarding setting, the court held that both works taking place in Alaska high schools was not protectable because Alaska is a public place and setting a teen novel in a high school is a common genre convention.”
Freeman v. Deebs-Elkenaney | Loeb & Loeb LLP
I've read the entire decision (skimming over the purely legal precedent/definitions bit) and here are some of my favorite bits:
“indeed, it seems that the Pacific Northwest (Twilight) is a common locale for finding vampires and werewolves at a high school” oh my god
i think very often about this story i once heard about a dom who made jewelry. he made a short, delicate chain as a leash for his partner - I think the other end might have connected to a ring he wore. it was so fine it would have been very easy to break.
so as he went about the party they were hosting, his sub had to be completely cued into him and mindful of his every move. too close and she'd be in his way, too far and she'd damage this beautiful thing he spent so much time to make for her. can you imagine how much attentiveness that would take? how much the person on the other end of the chain would become the center of your focus and everything you do?
i think as fun as physical bondage is, mental bondage is really underrated. i love restraints you could break, but actively choose not to as an act of obedience. i love restraints that would be easy to break, so the thing that keeps you in them is knowing it's what your partner wants. that motivation to obey what they want for you can consume your entire focus, while for them it's just as passive as if the restraints actually forced you to obey - or it can be something they challenge and make actively difficult for you, because you can't rely on that sturdiness of actual bondage, it's all up to you and your willpower.
some of you need to get more normal about erotic horror, im not saying you have to like it, or have to consume it. but its such a potent form of horror. you all love Alien but dont want to talk about how its about penetration. its a great excercise in media literacy about things that might at first make you uncomfortable, which is the point.
horror reflects societal fears, and analysing it through media is a brilliant way to engage with how sexuality is controlled and censored and made frightening please think about this instead of slasher slop of the week, this is your homework.
im going to talk a lot about Alien here because it is a beloved piece of media that is accessible and well disected in terms of its themes. but think about how the xenomorph, a creature that is inherently phallic in its design is also feminised, it was created specifically to make men uncomfortable at the time of its release, im conflicted on whether or not i feel that this is pushing a transphobic subtext i would rather allow space for trans women to talk about this rather than myself.
but the concept of the sexually phallic and penetrative female form is presented to be both be alluring to the straight man, and make him fear forced penetration and birth, it is supposed to make someone who would not usually empathise with this type of horror relate to that fear
its also worth noting Ellen Ripleys de- and regendering over the course of the movie, it is intentional that we know her much more as Ripley than by her first name, she is androgynised throughout the plot in order to take on the traditionaly masculine action movie protagonist role. it is only towards the end of the movie that she is recontextualised as female, in a space in which she is most vulnerable to the sexual dominance of the xenomorph
I also want to talk about a piece of media i thoroughly enjoy that i believe uses sexual horror poorly, i am a huge fan of fear and hunger, its erotic themes are undoubtedly uncomfortable and sometimes frightening though it unfortunatley says little about its story and themes, monsters use vaginal and phallic imagery as pure shock value, for a game so fundamentally about cycles i really wish the sex and birth aspect was utilized more to say something.
your homework is to watch Alien and play Fear and Hunger and tell me what you thought about both of them
there should be creatures that only exist at night. they should be made of shadow and, if possible, evil itself. and they should be impossible to defeat!
Preaching my #truth
I Agree with this statement
funny how much both count dracula and van helsing got so drastically mischaracterized in pop culture. no, van helsing isnt some big macho who hunts monsters as a full time job, he is an old doctor who was asked for help by his favorite ex student with a puppy crush bc a woman he loves is dying. no, the count isnt a handsome mystical love interest with a sad backstory about some lost love, he is a bisexual disaster who gets no bitches and crawls on the walls while trying to buy real estate in london.
Last night I had a dream I woke up to find that my house had been turned into a Smart House with every wall being a digital screen including the roof so I could see it even laying on bed and the Siri voice said “Don’t worry. You are perfectly safe in your Apple Smart Home™️” knowing I have a BIG phobia of intruders especially at night and it continued with “Let’s explore the neighborhood from the comfort of your home” so it opened google maps and accidentally zoomed past a shitty jpeg of the girl from The Ring standing outside my house and it said “ignore that”. woke up laughing
It is not the only thing of me he is soon to take.
Please tell me you were talking about your massive c-
I have turned this sheet about, and yet on it no further word do I find. Were you stricken down in the very act of writing, and by some art managed still to have it sent on?
Love how lawyer boy Jonathan Harker always happily takes the hint when people tell him, "Yeah we know about the tall bugger who hired us a bit but we're soooo thirsty, so we cannot talk much," and buys everyone alcohol. He is so eager to bribe, in general. Client confidentiality whomst?
Dracula: "I am not tipping any of you." Jonathan: "And what else did he say? How about some more booze?"
Mina’s act of reversing the psychic link that was meant to dominate her and turning it into a weapon against the Count is fiendishly clever, but thematic too. Earlier, Jonathan had asked, “Why should I not imitate him?” about scaling the walls, even though the sight of Dracula doing so had once filled him with horror. Yet by imitating the monster’s movements, Jonathan discovered the truth of his nature and found his way to freedom. Mina takes that same principle.
Jonathan imitates the monster's body; she mirrors the monster's mind.
She realizes that if he can enter her consciousness, she can enter his. What was meant as a chain becomes a channel. By asking Van Helsing to hypnotize her (Van Helsing imitating Dracula's own hypnotic powers), Mina hears what he hears, sees the darkness he sees, traces his movements across land and sea, as he meant to do to her. In his coffin, she purposely becomes one mind with the undead, "dying" each dawn and dusk.
"Renfield told Mrs. Harker so much, and he was so sophisticated and articulate when he'd mock me and never answer me anything of substance in months, she must have some special power!"
Seward it's called being nice to the mentally ill person and listening to him and empathising, rather than trying to obsessively study him. Come on.
Everyone is like "Dracula in the Lucy plot is a dark seductive force that awakens her sexuality and her sinful desires" when he is much more like the personification of a terrifying terminal illness going into remission and then resurfacing again, no matter what doctors or cutting-edge medical technology or love can do.
THIS! lucy having "sinful desires" is so weird bc how can anyone come to that conclusion?
lucy was shown to be more than happy to get married to arthur even if a little overwhelmed from having three proposals at the same time. she wasnt forced into a un loving marriage or having anxiety over the future.
the whole tragedy is that lucy was a young woman whos future dracula cruelly took away in order to turn her into a monster that her beloved friends were forced to destroy.
