Heist.

Details :

Pattern - This time the jealousy went in the other direction and my daughter needed the same hat (but in PINK!) as my son. So again, I knitted the Masked Superhero and Burglar Hat by Sunshine Stewart.

Yarn - I received another yarnbox shipment and decided to use that for this project. This is Mitu by Rauma.

Go Ninja, Go Ninja GO!

Details :

Pattern - Masked Superhero + Burglar Hats by Sunshine Stewart. Great pattern with tons of options to make whatever hat you (or your kids) desire. 

Yarn - The red yarn had to match his fingerless mitts (and of course Raphael is the coolest turtle), so I used the same Merino Bamboo Nylon DK by Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts. (Still the same skein from yarnbox.)

Another Little Pair of Fingerless.

Details :

Pattern - Not to be outdone, my son made it clear that he also needed some pirate mitts. This is the Rattle ya Dags pattern by Paula Henley again. I have a feeling that I will be knitting double patterns a lot in the upcoming years. 

Yarn - Because I need to ensure both of my kids’ yarn names are sufficiently long, I used another doozie here. This is Merino Bamboo Nylon DK from Ancient Arts Fiber Crafts. Keeping with the trend, this is another yarnbox delivery.

Petite Fingerless.

Details :

Pattern - These are the Rattle ya Dags pattern by Paula Henley. The Mini-me wanted her own pair of fingerless to match Mama’s, so this is what we came up with. Great pattern. Go get it. 

Yarn - This one’s a mouthful. Seriously. The yarn name is as long as it is soft. Ready? It’s Artisan Yarns Alpaca Silk by Hampden Hills Alpacas. But boy is it soft. So soft that I had to knit with wooden needles. But it was worth it. This is another Yarnbox yarn delivery, which should surprise nobody by now. 

Mods - cuff: 32 rounds, ending w knit row hand of the mitt: 22 rounds thumb section: 8 rows then 4 rounds cuff: 8 rounds, ending after knit row. BO purl-wise

Fingerless Mitts 2016.

Details :

Pattern - This AMAZING pattern is River Mitts by Katie Rempe. I am feeling more confident in my knitting and wanted a new pair of fingerless for the 2016 winter and this is what I came up with! (I highly recommend this pattern because not only is it well-written and fun to knit, but I honestly get compliments on these mitts EVERY SINGLE TIME I wear them.)

Yarn - Dragonfly Fibers Pixie. I subscribe to way, way, way too many yarn delivery services, and can give some pretty great advise if you’re looking to do any. The reason I bring this up without any sort of segue is twofold: 1 - because I’m rusty as hell and haven’t posted or written anything in an embarrassingly long time, and 2 - because this yarn came from yarnbox. I am not going to give a review of yarnbox here, but I will say that I am still subscribed to their monthly yarn shipments after three years. 

Mods - I cast on 44 stitches and then knit one round before beginning the k2, p2 for 15 rounds.when knitting the inner circle I knit two rounds in the round before moving to back and forth on the 3rd round. Because of this I was knitting a RS row on row 19, and rejoined then. Project Page here.

Shawlin.

Details :

Pattern - I have never knitted a shawl, and I had two different handspun yarns from two different people that I didn’t know how to use, so I thought - time to dive in! I liked the stripes in the Serena Shadow Shawl and thought it would help to separate the two very different yarns. The pattern is by Antonia Shankland, who has some great scarves that i will be knitting later. 

Yarn - One yarn was gifted to me for Christmas. It came in a plastic bag without any notes attached. I have no idea who made it, but know it was purchased at a festival of some sort and it was handmade. (This is the white yarn.) The weight changed quite heavily throughout the skein and it was incredibly intimidating for me, quite frankly. I tried to use it multiple times prior, but then I received American Graffiti from Frost Yarns and knew my answer. (Nicole Frost is my favorite fiber artist and I’m actually hoping to bring my daughter out there to make some custom colorways ... more on that another time.)

Overall I am pleased for my first shawl. I will knit another soon.

Mermaid.

Details :

Pattern - The daughter wanted a mermaid so I took a stab at the Onsie-Mermaid by Knitterbees. The pattern is super well written, and she has TONS of other super cute creatures to knit, so I highly recommend checking her out. 

Yarn - I went to Peru and bought a bag of Indiecita Alpaca DK in various colors, and this was the perfect opportunity to dive into said bag. It’s an incredibly soft yarn - just a pleasure to your fingers. (Get your mind outta the gutter, yo.) It’s soft. Super soft. 

Mods - I obviously didn’t put in the button eyes - instead I let my daughter draw a face on Ariel, but I’m not showing it here because quite frankly, she was cuter before she had a face... Poor Ariel. Always cuter without everyday features. No face. No voice.

Baby Bear Hat.

Details :

Pattern - I went back to an old favorite book of mine called Baby Beanies. This pattern is Flour Sack by Amanda Keeys. I’ve knit this hat a few times over the years for both of my kids, and there was a new baby in the family so I just had to knit it again. It was a quick knit, as they all are, and super cute when finished. 

Yarn - Artesano Aran. Super soft, comes in tons of beautiful colors. It’s an easy choice for this project. 

Mods - Zero. I knit this hat exactly as per the pattern.

Crochet Playgrounds by Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam

Japanese artist Toshiko Horiuchi-MacAdam is considered one of Japan’s leading fiber artists, using knitting and crochet as the foundation for much of her work. 

Her website explains that she specializes in “creating large, interactive textile environments that function both as imaginative and vibrant explorations of color and form, at the same time as providing thrilling play environments.”

Details :

Pattern - This is the Dino Cap pattern by Kris Hanson. My son was tired of me knitting things for myself and for my daughter and picked this pattern for his winter hat. Honestly, I was a little scared about screwing up the spikes, but the pattern was really well written and I didn’t screw it up so awesome! 

Yarn - Brava Worsted by KnitPicks. Yes, yes, I know. And you know by now. I love it. But the pink was switched up this time - Spud & Chloë Sweater. (Yes, my son picked the colors too. He wanted all pink spikes at first, but after talking ti through, we compromised on pink highlights.) The yarns worked perfectly together and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. 

Mods - Nothing here again. Very well-written pattern and as you can see the end product was a success!

Model Assist - My darling little boy, Nico. (And I’m sorry about the blurry photos. Trying to get him to stand still is like trying to catch a wave upon the sand... Maria...)

Lola Headband.

Details :

Pattern - This is the Lola Headband pattern by Gina Jones. I made it to match the mitts I knitted for myself. I rather like it but it’s a bit wide. Not crazy-wide, but just wider than I’m used to. But I definitely wore it and like it paired up with my gloves. 

Yarn - I will just copy and paste this from my previous posting “Say it with me: Brava Worsted by KnitPicks. This yarn is too awesome and too cheap not to keep using for shit. Honestly. I don’t have all the anxiety of picking the “perfect” pattern for the yarn because the yarn is less than $3 a skein - if I don’t like it, whatever. Honestly. But I’ve liked it every single time. Good call KnitPicks - I just send another order along for much, much more yarn. Not because I need it. Because I WANT it. And that’s how I’m rollin’”

Fingerless Mitts v2.

Details :

Pattern - This is the Center ice Hockey Mitts pattern by Njeri Sims (again.) I loved the mitts I made for my sis so much that I had to make myself a pair. And I had this BEAUTIFUL teal yarn I’ve been wanting to use on myself, so... that’s what I did.

Yarn - Say it with me: Brava Worsted by KnitPicks. This yarn is too awesome and too cheap not to keep using for shit. Honestly. I don’t have all the anxiety of picking the “perfect” pattern for the yarn because the yarn is less than $3 a skein - if I don’t like it, whatever. Honestly. But I’ve liked it every single time. Good call KnitPicks - I just send another order along for much, much more yarn. Not because I need it. Because I WANT it. And that’s how I’m rollin’

Mods - I changed this one up similar to the last one, but I also made the wrists a little smaller as I have skinny wrists and the mitts I made for my sister were quite bulky on me. I’m super pleased with the results, let me tell you. Project Page.
