he wasn't angel, no dark defender, and he knew this. he was just — doyle. he wasn't noble or heroic or mysterious. he was just... doyle. but, he'd be damned if he ever let @bl3dchaos get into any kind of danger or get hurt if he could do something about it. he would do it all over again, saving her from that vampire when her wimpy date fled the scene in his fancy car and shiny shoes. he didn't have a fancy car or shiny shoes, but he did have the decency and courage to help a woman when she was in trouble. when they got back to the office, he insisted to cordelia that he was going to be just fine, but she was persistent in her need to patch him up. he did manage to get a good scrape across his hairline, bleeding a bit, and it was throbbing. who was he to ever say no to cordelia? ❛ careful, now, i might have some sort of concussion... ❜ he told her as she dabbed a small cotton ball with disinfectant, but a teasing smirk danced on his lips as he gazed into her eyes. ❛ m' alright, y'know, ❜ he reassured her, nodding a bit. ❛ are you alright is my concern... ❜
there were some things in life cordelia chase was certain of.. the first and most important? — her inevitable stardom. everybody would know her name soon enough, just wait and see. the rest, however, were a collection of absolutes: double denim never works, diamonds look good on anyone and vampires really had to learn to leave their original eras behind if they were gonna live forever. soulless immortality was no excuse for bad fashion. the only thing ( or rather, person ) she didn't have completely figured out was him. whenever she thought she did, doyle always found another way to surprise her.
his tease about a concussion earned an eye roll, gentle touch still wiping at his wound. "how would we know the difference?" insult had less bite in it than usual. her tone was softer, warmer. maybe even fond, though cordy would deny it with her last breath. what doyle did for her tonight went beyond comprehension. he put himself in danger for her, fought for her … and still the only person he showed concern for was cordelia rather than himself, like nothing else in the world mattered as long as she was safe. meanwhile, her date probably hadn't even stopped fleeing yet. "i'm fine, no thanks to mr look-how-fast-i-can-run-in-three-thousand-dollar-shoes." response came in an unimpressed scoff while leaning in just a little closer to get a better examination at his scrape. it looked better already. dropping her arm back down, cordelia sighed, meeting his gaze with a faint smile. "thank you." the additional 'you saved my life' goes unspoken, though it could be seen lingering in grateful eyes if someone looked close enough.

"my mom would've loved this dress." — she thinks anyway. the older tabi gets, the harder it is to remember ava. clear images start to blur, but there are some memories that never fade: long days of laughter on a family farm / quiet nights tucking into popcorn, watching old movies with songs she can still hum along to. hands smooth down red material and she smiles, expression fond rather than sad. things don't hurt as much to think about when mary-louise is near. "it looks just like one from a film we used to watch." the world she came from wasn't always rotten to the core. once upon a time, tabi was just a little girl with oil smears on her princess gown because she helped daddy fix his truck engine again after home-school. "she'd let me put her heels on and i'd stomp around like i was prom queen or something stupid like that." nose crinkles and the blonde shakes her head, as if embarrassed by her own story. tough fighter isn't used to showing vulnerabilities. it's different up here on top of roadhouse roof though. this moment is theirs + theirs alone. "thanks for coming with me tonight." her hand turns enough to brush her fingertips over @/ monstramystica's knuckles in a touch that's almost cautious. "i don't think i could've done it alone."

"i don't.. i don't know what i like." it was a difficult confession to avoid out loud. a part of her felt stupid. — is this something she should know? no one else who came into the spot seemed to struggle to settle on an order. fingers picked at cuticles outta nervous habits while eyes darted over the different options the counter had available. brownies, cookies. pies of all variations. each one looked prettier than the last. tabi tried not to let her wonder show, but it still seeped through usual deadpan expression. she'd never seen anything like it before. keep your spells, witches, this is real magic. "back home, we just kinda ate whatever we could hunt or scavenge … which was usually worms or berries." baking hadn't been such a factor once the apocalypse crashed down, though something about all these lingering scents triggered a distant memory: she thinks her dad used to make bread like that. the thought threatens to overwhelm her. asking for aid didn't come easy to the girl who had to teach herself how to survive alone. however, there was a comforting warmth in @milleroptimism's gaze when she looked up. it reminded her of something maternal. " … will you help me choose?"
