You can call me October,

I like to write and draw and I am currently really into “The Black Phone” so this is what my tumblr will be about.I’ll be writing, drawing and mostly talking about that on this account!

However, if I ever ask for you guys to request things, please understand I will not be writing anything for X readers, or smut in general.

First, these characters are children (except for Albert, max and the parents). Second, X readers make me slightly uncomfortable especially with writing. And third, I am a child myself (16).

The ground rules here are basically, don’t sexualize minors, and don’t simp for pedophiles who abduct them and abuse them, thanks. <3

I think it's so weird how the black phone fandom inherently links shipping the minors with perversion.

There are KID characters in every show that have relationships: Aang and Katara, Phineas and Isabela. There are even series where supposed minors are sexualized, like Euphoria, and yet no one seems to care. Because they're straight.

The link of the very idea of a gay couple (even very young ones like in the black phone, that would do no more than holding hands and maybe smooching) with sexuality and perversion, while straight kids can have a cute, wholesome relationship SHOULD NOT BE ENDORSED.

So, this is your reminder that SEXUALIZING the black phone minors is wrong, but inherently shiping them is not.

Finney Blake loves space, we all have that established. But- and h e a r me out.

Finney Blake who adores science to a horrific level. (Which would also include space, which just so happens to be the favorite subject). So he also knows a lot about other things involving science, which also includes biology.

Finney Blake would 100% be the sweet quiet kid in class who simultaneously would ask the teacher if they could keep the bones after dissecting something in bio class.

Has anyone else come to the realization that Finney never really had a safe space to be?

He wasn’t safe at home, we can tell from the fact that his father was a heavy alcoholic and was abusive. No matter the reason that doesn’t excuse the fact he abused his kids. It doesn’t matter if it was because he was “worried” about them being like their mother. He still hit them, still yelled at them, still scared them just by being there.

He didn’t have a safe place at school. He got bullied (which is obvious). But we know it wasn’t just mental abuse at school it was also physical. We can infer this not only from the fight scene that happened but also how Gwen talks about how Moose “made your nose bleed”.

Finney wasn’t safe at school, wasn’t safe at home, and ultimately wasn’t safe outside of either place as well. Considering the fact that he got kidnapped while on his way home.

It’s likely Finney went over to Robins house at least a couple of times so maybe that was his safe place for awhile, but after Robin went missing and died I doubt he went to their house anymore. And even if their dad promised to be nicer, I have doubts that it succeeded. (Not because of the whole “abusers can’t be better” because they can become better people, but because the damage is already done. Even if he becomes nicer, Finney is 13 and already terrified of his own father. That doesn’t just go away.)

And even if the bullies are scared of Finney now, so is literally everyone else except for maybe Donna.

It’s just really sad when you think about it.

I see a lot of people saying that Vance is autistic, and I’m not saying that they’re wrong!

But personally, to me, Vance seems a lot more likely to have BPD (borderline personality disorder). (Though I also view him as autistic as well as having BPD because there are definitely aspects with which you can see both in the movie).

Now I, myself, don’t have BPD. However, I have 2 people I know on a very personal level who have BPD, and Vance acts like a mixture of both of them in ways throughout the movie.

For one, we know Vance has a violence streak, we literally watch him beat up people over a pinball game. Often times with BPD, you have trouble controlling your anger in general and it is often intense and can often be felt at inappropriate times. Another thing is people with BPD often go on “sprees” (basically impulsive behaviors that can be damaging, like binge eating, substance abuse, spending sprees etc.). I think Vance does go on sprees but I feel like his sprees are more violent. He’ll get into fights a lot and do reckless things that are usually damaging to one’s health.

We also see Vance have a hard time controlling his anger, and it being mostly intense and inappropriate when he’s talking with Finney. (Though the only reason it’s considered inappropriate is because of the fact he threw bottles at Finney. The rest was kinda justified by the situation of him being… ya know…. Dead).

But yeah, so while I do agree Vance is autistic I also think he’s heavily BPD coded. (I also didn’t really think much of the possibility of it being BPD until both of my friends told me that he shows symptoms of it throughout the movie. So shout out to them!)

Robin 🤝 Griffin 🤝 Vance: being raised by a single mom

Vance Hoppers mother does her best. She’s a single mom, and she has no clue where Vance’s father is. He cut off contact with her one day and just left, no one knows where he went. Since then she got a job and did everything she could for her son.

She wasn’t perfect by any means. There were days they had late dinners, and there was far more take out eaten than actual home cooked meals. Sometimes the house was a bit dirty from time to time, and there’d be dishes in the sink no matter how much they cleaned. But she tried. She always made sure there was food on the table, and even if she had to starve a day or two she’d still make sure Vance had something.

Even when Vance started getting caught up in stupid things. No matter what he did, or how many times she had to drive up to the police station, she never hated him. She loved him, and she’d do anything for him. No questions asked.

Vance loves his mother, and his mother loves him. They’re all the other has, and they’re all the other needs.
