My OC from Fallen London universe
THIS. I saw a post the other day that literally said if you do it to a fictional character, you’ll do it in real life.
No. Just NO.
I’m so glad someone put it into words.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is a legend, and he’s absolutely right.
And I really feel like there are parts of fandom that don’t get or don’t believe this, and I think that’s troubling. I’ve seen arguments that people shouldn’t have dark fantasies, or that bad impulses in themselves make a bad person. I’ve seen so much shaming over thoughts.
And if you get to a point where it’s bad to have dark thoughts and it’s bad to wonder what something would be like and it’s bad to put yourself in the shoes of anyone who isn’t “pure”, if fiction is no longer a realm where you can confront and explore, but an ongoing test of moral purity… well, maybe not everyone’s brain works like mine, but I feel like that takes away something incredibly important to being human.
Purity culture is gonna kill art if y’all let it.
Fiction is a safe place to explore whatever fucked up or dark desire that you have. You can write the most vile and fucked up shit in fiction and it be absolutely nothing you desire in real life. You can write about a serial killer who gets away with it. You can write about someone who goes on moral crusades to purge the world of all evils and still be the protagonist. You can write anything in fiction because that’s what it is meant for.
It isn’t meant to be a social commentary unless you create it to be.
It isn’t meant to be educational unless you create it to be.
Sometimes a story can be just that, a story. Entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.
Not everything has to be deep, or have meaning, etc. unless the creator wants it to be and a lot of the purity types end up forcing something to have deep meaning or social commentary where it isn’t meant to. Is this inherently bad? No, but these people don’t just say “But this is my interpretation of it.” they go as far as trying to force that interpretation onto everyone else, including the creator, as a means of saying “See? It means that they promote/condone xyz so they’re bad and shitty people who should spend the rest of their life in jail with/are the same as people who’ve actually committed acts of violence against other people.”
THANK. YOU.
@ all the people in the notes saying “yes except u can’t write about (list of immoral things they don’t want to see in fiction)” congrats on missing the point so spectacularly I’m not sure I could create better performance art if I tried
quick sketch of my baby girl, rosie, in a wedding dress because I thought she’d look cute
This is an old practice.
Not so friendly reminder Satan is anti map
“Do not harm children” -Rule 9 of The eleven satanic rules of earth
Amazing how even the religion with the one of the worst reputations is anti MAP lmaoooooo
Right? Also rule 5 “Do not make sexual advances unless given consent”
For people who expressed interest
I am not a satanist so I can not provide in-depth knowledge but there are many branches/types of satanism. Here is the ones I know of.. I might get a few things wrong but as said before I don’t practice satanism.
The Church of Satan: The church of Satan belives in no deity except for that of yourself! You are your own god/goddess. You worship yourself in the form of self-love, self betterment, happiness, and pursuing knowledge. To name a few. This branch of satanism encourages sex, but sexual acts towards children or animals are considered sins. (This church was founded by the man who wrote the satanic bible)
The Satanic Temple: Above all this branch encourages benevolence and empathy as well as the embrace of common sense and justice. This group does not worship Satan as a deity but rather as a figure off rebellion. Recently you may have heard that the temple erected a statue of Baphomet on public property in Detroit because of the city building a statue of the 10 Commandments. They also held a “Pink Mass” at the funeral of Westboro Baptist Church Leader Fred Phelps’ mother. Gay couples were welcomed to the pink mass and encouraged to publicly display affection and wish for Phelps’ mother to be “gay in the afterlife.”
Luciferianism: Luciferians are most concerned with the pursuit of knowledge. They worship Lucifer (mostly as a symbol but some as a deity) rather than Satan. To them he embodies self-determination and liberation from the slave mentality. Luciferians’ main goal is to help people “take responsibility for their own life and act as an individual moral agent, using the full potential of their own genius and thereby optimizing possibilities.”
Christian-based Duo Theism: This is a very small sect of Satanism that differs greatly from the rest. Theistic Satanists believe in the Christian bible… but in the war between Satan and the Lord, they’re on the side of Satan.
Why isn’t this being spread more often? This is so interesting and awesome
This is actually pretty interesting….
today on “i didnt know i was a satanist”
the church of satan specifically does cool activist stuff, like insisting that if the Arkansas State Capital Building has a christian nativity scene, they have to allow this satanic Baphomet statue as well
I’m pretty sure the goal was to get the state government to admit it should not participate in religious celebrations, but those folks are SO stubborn they let this statue go up to keep their nativity scene.
Fucking fantastic, you funky little Satanists
The future is now
I DIDN’T THINK I’D LIVE TO SEE ANY KIND OF CYBORG TECH THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME
bethesda will never reach the level of character writing that obsidian achieved when they made one of the main evil antagonists a fascist who read hegel once, misinterpreted it, and let those misinterpretations guide his ideology for the rest of his life until he decided to trust a handsome mailman he just met earlier today to do surgery on his brain
This just happened
Fallout is fun because it’s supposed to be social commentary on society’s obsession with money, the damage caused by capitalism, the way that propaganda is woven into the fabric of our society, and the terrifying obsession we as Americans have with romanticizing our military and war in general.
And now they’re selling shit like Memorial Day and army themed items in their microtransaction shop, which uses currency named after the most devastating weapon in human history.
Fallout has literally become a parody of itself. Incredible. Good job, Bethesda.
Sorry to go back to this but the Atom Store is genuinely absurd to me.
One of the main themes throughout Fallout has been the terrifying obsession that people have with atomic bombs. It’s shown especially in pre-war things, with not only the songs (all real) but also the toys and games and decorations. Even the soda from the main games is named after nuclear warfare (Nuka Cola). This is explicitly shown to have been the result of propaganda, efforts on the part of the government to make nuclear weapons seem benign, even fun, and to normalize them to the public.
This is something that was done in real life too. You can see it in the media, especially the music, from the 40s to the 60s, where so many themes revolved around nuclear energy. Characters and singers talked about mining for uranium. Toys based off of nuclear bombs were advertised to children. Romanticized ideas of nuclear fallout were played in schools. There’s at least one song comparing the ticking of a Geiger counter to the beating of someone’s heart when they fall in love (Tic Tic Tic by Doris Day).
It’s all propaganda, and Fallout used those things to show the cruelty and greed of the government and the corporations who lied to and manipulated the public for their own gain.
And then Bethesda turned around and did the exact same thing in real life.
It sickens me. It genuinely sickens me. A game that was meant to call attention to military propaganda is now pushing that exact same propaganda to its users.

in case you haven’t heard it today, or don’t fully realise it yet: i promise you that most people in this world are kind, loving and understanding. the people around you want you to succeed, they do not want you to fail. your friends don’t hate you, they love you, and they want to see you grow and prosper.
the world is not as bad as it seems. don’t forget that.
Sounds fake but ok
good news: it’s not fake. everything i said is true. being dismissive towards good things is a damaging mindset to have. you’ll feel a lot better if you have some trust and if you’re willing to consider optimistic viewpoints.
Is this what non depressed people feel like ? Damn. You’re so lucky
i’m extremely mentally ill and extremely depressed at that. deflecting good advice that encourages you to think positively about life by claiming that the person who said it is not depressed (when i very much am) is also a very damaging mindset to have.
OP is the opposite of the “Then Perish” meme. All of OP’s replies read as “Then Prosper”.
Hey all y'all, it turns out that saying positive things and encouraging others with them even when you don’t quite believe them yourself is an excellent coping strategy for clinical depression. I know it’s hard to understand when you’re in the pit, and if I’m honest it’s still hard for me to grok, but the more you say positive things, the more they start being true. If that means lying to yourself, lie! Your brain chemistry is already lying to you about bad things, you may as well lie right back about good ones.
“Your brain chemistry is already lying to you about bad things, you may as well lie right back about good ones.“
Wow. That is a really fucking good point.
THEN PROSPER
Casual reminder that depression and PTSD *literally actually* warp your perception of reality.
When you fall through a kiddy pool and end up in the Coca-Cola Hellscape.
you will not die, but for ten thousand years you’ll wish you had
This came out way way WAY WAY better than I was expecting. It fits well and has great visibility and breath ability. Only issue being that its a bit small. Fits perfectly on me but ive got a teeny tiny little head.
i don’t know what’s cooler tbh:
Demon horns being broken halos from when they were angels.
Demons willingly grow their own halos, but never complete the circle to symbolize their rebellion against heaven’s strict order.
In addition to the second one, angels are GIVEN their halos rather than earning them. Demons like Lucifer rebelled for freedom and individuality, thus demon horns all look different compared to an angel’s boring halo.
Horns are useful tools, but if you join them into a circle they become useless badges of authority.
And the thing about wearing a badge is that you become a symbol of someone else. You’re not you, you’re an extension of the entity whose authority you’re borrowing. You can’t be yourself until you ditch it
Here’s a visual representation of angels and demons.
I figure that as angels, their “horns” would glow when connected to become traditional halos. However, this blinds the angel with heavenly light, making the angel rely on God’s guidance.
Angels who break their halos become demons, and willingly grow their horns in obscure shapes so it won’t connect back into a halo. Because the halo no longer blinds them, demons can finally see but can no longer communicate with God for guidance – the light they once gave to heaven now belongs to them, hence demons being proficient with fire allowing them to see in the dark.
Extra notes on horns & halos:
Circular horns (Halos) are smooth and easy for God to “grab” like a chain.
Jagged horns are sharp to the touch and can pierce God.
Crucial notes I forgot to add:
The only way angels can break their own halos is through strong, direct, hard force; rebellious angels willingly fell from heaven, breaking their halos upon hitting our world’s surface. That’s why demons are called “fallen angels”.
The only thing that can hurt God and other angels is another angel, so the shattered remains of a demon’s old halo would be reformed into tridents and pitchforks commonly associated with the devil.
Regretful demons wishing to commune with God again would either try to grow their horns back into a halo, or clasp their hands in prayer to form a circle with their own body mimicking a halo. It would faintly work. These demons would become the first priests, and spread the practice to humans.
It’s just,,,, haunting
