Some basic trans terminology for newbies who may need it
FTM: female to male, someone who was born female and is now transitioning to male
MTF: male to female, someone who was born male and is now transitioning to female
Nonbinary: neither male or female, can be both male and female or neither
Genderfluid: a person's gender changes over time
Transmasc: trans masculine, anyone transitioning to appear more masculine
Transfem: trans feminine, anyone transitioning to appear more feminine
True gender: your experienced gender, the gender you identify with
Assigned gender: the gender the doctor noted down when you were born
Gender dysphoria: the negative feeling of your experienced gender and your assigned gender not matching
Social dysphoria: gender dysphoria caused by social situations and how people treat you
Body dysphoria: gender dysphoric feelings about your own body
Gender euphoria: the positive feeling of being gendered correctly
Social transition: coming out of the closet, going by a new name and pronouns
Medical transition: HRT and surgeries
HRT: hormone replacement therapy, taking artificial testosterone or estrogen
Top surgery: mastectomy (aka titty chop, top chop, ect)
Bottom surgery: can refer to multiple different surgeries but usually vaginoplasty or phalloplasty
Vaginoplasty: a surgery that makes a new vagina
Phalloplasty: a surgery that makes a new penis
Closeted: not out as trans
Stealth: transitioned and is now living life as their true gender without disclosing to people that they're trans
Dead name: your given name that you no longer use
Misgendering: treating someone as a gender they're not, calling someone by the wrong pronouns
FFS: facial feminization surgery
T4T: trans for trans, a trans person who only wants to have romantic/sexual relationships with other trans people
Binder: chest binder, an article of clothes worn to hide breast tissue
Girl mode: appearing to the world as a girl (no matter your true gender)
Boy mode: appearing to the world as a boy (no matter your true gender)
GNC: gender non conforming, someone who doesn't follow the stereotypes and expectations of their gender (doesn't have to be trans but can be)
