Hey all! I’m BlazingQuill or Quill. For many years I would have quantified myself as a certified lurker, but I’ve been posting fanfiction?? Semi-regularly??? With plans to post more? Exciting, but very odd.

I anticipate I’ll be writing Orufrey for some time. I’m working on multiple stories right now, and have many more ideas.

I also have some writing pertaining to the lil indie game Esoteric Ebb and Dragon Age which is decent, and a bit of very old writing I refuse to delete but is questionable in quality for the Walking Dead Telltale game. Inspiring: turns out with practice you can become a better writer!

witch hat atelier’s handling of gay representation is arguably just as funny as it is painful because straight out the gate shirahama throws two unmarried men cohabitating and raising multiple children together at you in that special manga way where you can kind of just assume that they’re not officially together purely because it’s not legal in japan. but then in like chapter 50 she introduces two side characters who stare directly into the camera and tell you that gay marriage is legal in zozah so you’re forced to spend the next entire 30-chapter arc wondering what the HELL qifrey’s problem is. and well. then she tells you

one of my favorite things to do in limited perspective is write sentences about the things someone doesn't do. he doesn't open his eyes. he doesn't reach out. i LOVE sentences like that. if it's describing the narrator, it's a reflection of their desires, something they're holding themselves back from. there's a tension between urge and action. it makes you ask why they wanted or felt compelled to do that, and also why they ultimately didn't. and if it's describing someone else, it tells you about the narrator's expectations. how they perceive that other person or their relationship. what they thought the other person was going to do, or thought the other person should have done, but failed to. negative action sentences are everything.

Fanart for another @blazingquill fanfic, this time '...and doubt, doubt comes in.' drawn while I was listening to the Hadestown soundtrack, of course. I was thinking of this moment in particular (even though I took some additional liberties with the posing):

He makes some noise, a soft, nonsensical sound, as he curls into himself. He’s horribly exposed, his fragile heart aching in this strangeness. This isn’t what he thought – isn’t how he wanted this to go – but Qifrey’s hands are winding around him now, one moving up his chest and stopping his instinctual hunch in. The other palms against the fat of his belly and stays there, holding. And Qifrey shifts closer, somehow, a long line of warmth against his back. When Olruggio forces himself to speak, there’s a gravelly timber in his voice, air catching on all the sharp edges within him. He manages, “Can I…can I talk?” A long silence, and then, “No.” Absolute negation. It’s softened only slightly by an absurd, delayed, “I’m sorry.” This must be what stupefied refers to, Olruggio thinks, this compelling call to make the stupidest decision of his life. He breathes out, long and low, and gives a sharp, spasmodic nod. He’d never been able to deny Qifrey, not on a direct request like this, not when the only person harmed was himself.

I just. ugh. I loved Qifrey telling Olly not to turn around, and trying to let himself - both of them - have this, if he could just keep not look back.

But of course, he does. This is the path to Paradise, likewise, the road to ruin.

(Also, the pose is very heavily referenced from the cover art for the novel Brighter than Scale, Swifter than Flame, that I have framed next to my desk because it is SO GORGEOUS. I bought the original sketch for that cover last year at Dragoncon and it is one of my most treasured pieces of art I own.)

Olly's face was, like, 90% of the motivation for drawing this because I needed to see the expression I so clearly felt in your writing! I am glad it aligned with what you had in mind as well!!

The other 10% was Qifrey holding Olly's face forward, and adding the rose on the table, haha.

(There is a version of this piece that I do not have the knowledge, skill, or time to make, where it is animated and what is in front of them is a flickering flame, and when the flame falters in the darkness you see the silverwood highlighted and grow and wind around them both. I want this to exist but don't have the ability to make it, so I will settle for just briefly sharing it with words instead.)
