I want to come back being more active on good old Tumblr so I'm looking for like-minded Heated Rivalry blogs to follow, because on any ither platform this fandom is a mess and I need to know I'm not alone lol ❤️ like this post and I will check your blog!

* Hudson stole my sanity but I love literally everybody

* I generally approach everything and everybody on a good faith basis, which does not mean I can't be critical occasionally (and I actually appreciate level headed discussions about it!)(also, I just mean critical in the sense that I don't blindly stan anyone)

* I don't mind rpf for fun, but I keep a strong understanding that I am not privy to anyone's personal life and I don't disrespect any loved one. This is valid for BOTH hudcon and conçois btw, I want to be super clear. I may pontificate a bit for fun - keep in mind that in reality I think they're all just friends.

* In terms of what I'll reblog/talk about, there will mostly be Hudson or Shane in the mix because they're my bae 😛

* you may notice that I'm a bucktommy shipper (with multishipping leanings, to be clear), and I did not miss certain parallels between what has been said about Tommy/Lou and François so if you have partaken in hate towards any of the two I'm not the blog for you.

No but, honestly, imagine your buddy pulling you over to show you something on their phone and what they wanted to show you is the fact that your long-term situationship whom you're definitely in love with is dating like 2013 era Jennifer Lawrence and actually, no one knows you two were ever anything so you definitely can't have the public meltdown you can feel yourself teetering on the edge of.

I unapologetically think Hudson IS the cherry on top, AND the beautiful decorations, AND the unexpected flavor that elevates the Heated Rivalry cake.

And don't get me wrong, this is not because anybody else who worked on the show is less. They are all incredibly talented and masters at what they do.

But they were all aligned.

Jacob made an exteemely faithful adaptation of HR. He and Rachel were aligned.

The cinematographer is a master at what he does and the show looks beautiful, far more expensive than what it should considering the budget; he and Jacob were aligned.

Connor made Ilya feel alive with his incredible talent; it's also a faithful adaptation that is close to what both Rachel and Jacob envisioned, and he exceeded the expectations with his talent and understanding of the character. But they were all aligned.

What is not aligned with what was expected is Shane. Who in the books is far more of a stereotype and is autistic almost by mistake. I am not sure what Jacob wanted from Shane, but there is not one meaningful Shane scene that he hasn't told us he was envisioning something different. The hospital scene. The freaking out in episode 6. The stairwell kiss. The bathroom scene that could have been some meaningless snarky banter on the verge of being cringe, and instead is incredibly charged and emotional. Shane's entire demeanor being inspired by Hudson's personal experiences. It looks like while he was building Shane, he was far more often in contrast with what was expected from him than in agreement.

Hudson made show Shane just as much and maybe even more than Rachel or Jacob. He did not just played him beautifully and compellingly etc etc - he MADE him.

So I have just read some comments Rachel Reid wrote about Shane. I understand these are smut novels with cardboard characters - but maybe this white lady needs to never write a neurodivergent POC again if she's gonna have such a limited vision for him, yeah?

Let me reiterate how immensely thankful I am for Hudson, for pushing back with his vision no matter how many snarky accusations of being a "method actor" he got. His version of Shane is a masterpiece.

I don't think I'm ever gonna pay for anything related to this show unless it puts money directly into Hudson's pockets.

Sometimes I would like to engage in some light gossip for fun about these people I follow but I find myself in the very weird space of liking gossip and speculation but very lightheartedly and also actually liking everyone involved including real or speculated significant others and I feel like a dying fandom old breed in these times of algorithms just radicalizing people for likes. Not that people were ever very moderate in fandoms but jesus christ.

see ilya happens to be really fucking incredible at two things (hockey and sex) that he also has a vested interest in doing and gets to do often! and so i do think he has an INSANELY inflated sense of oh my god i am incredible at everything i try and shane is not going to be the one to break it to him that he’s actually like not that good at drumming at all he will wear his noise canceling airpods and sit on the other side of the house and peek his head around the corner of the garage to see ilya sweaty and shirtless and give him a biiiig thumbs up

Imagine being Hudson Williams, in late 2024/early 2025, absolutely dead set on becoming an actor (like, will die trying level of committed). You've been making these funky little short films with your friends and in every single one of them you play a little freak. You write the role of a little freak for yourself. And you better believe every single role requires you to be at least a little bit naked. And then. Then. You get a script. There's this character. Shane Hollander. And he's the freakiest little sub to ever do the damn thing and the role requires nudity and he also happens to be Wasian, and it's a Canadian production, looking to cast local unknown talent, and someone else will be getting this role over your dead body.

On one side, I love media analysis and diving deep and 10,000 words meta posts.

On the other one I wish people would remember that if they like to analyze genre, trope-heavy, popcorn media more often than not the one and only motivation behind questionable behaviour is "because drama and plot" and not necessarely a fatal character flaw, and we don't need to keep fake people perpetually accountable when both the other characters and the author have said they're all cool with each other.
