Pardon Me
“Who is the internet even for anymore?” is such a valid question. Companies are sanitizing the internet and stifling natural human expression in the name of child safety and being family friendly, but the kids such as fuck aren’t benefitting from this. The internet is becoming too childish for adults and yet still too adult for kids.
At this point. the internet is for advertisers and nobody else.
Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.
Yes, that's really it.
I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.

You may think these are all overwhelming wins, but if you started with 100 people, there would only be 66 left at this point. And since they only ever ask once for "Yes," you rapidly get diminishing remainders.
They are a corporation. They have time and money that none of us individually do. They can wait out 10, 20, 700 attempts at asking. The only way to win this is to either always have everybody answer no, or stop rewarding companies that blatantly don't care about consent at all.
No permanent negative option means they understand, and refuse to practice, consent.
See you in three days.
You are not allowed to say no to the ruling class.

In a reply on a post I made about diets not working, someone shared an article about a study that seemed to suggest that anyone can lose weight. The study is here: Dietary intervention and BMI reduction in individuals at the extremes of genetic predisposition to higher BMI: a randomized controlled trial
I thought I'd share my process when presented with apparent "proof" that weight loss is possible (and can be maintained long term). I am not an expert, and it's been twenty years since I took a statistics class, so I honestly don't remember how to read studies that well. But there's a few things that anybody can do.
First, I went to the study itself. What an article has to say about a study is usually pretty worthless. Whoever wrote the article wants to promise a lot more than the study actually does.
Second, I look at a few things: how long after losing weight did the study follow up with participants? How many participants were in the study? How much weight did they lose? What do the people conducting the study actually conclude (as opposed to what the article promises).
In this case, the study only followed participants for six months. There were 223 participants. If I'm reading it correctly (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), they lost an average of 1.51 kg, about 3 lbs.
We do know that short term weight loss is possible. It happens all the time! So this study is not very helpful in the conversation about whether diets work. To be fair, the study wasn't trying to answer that question. The study's purpose was to compare people who may be genetically prone to higher BMIs against people who were not. The text of the abstract says that the size of the study is not enough to make any assumptions about what happens to the general population.
In the anti-diet world, when we say that diets don't work, what we mean is that dieting does not result in long-term, significant weight loss. There have been a great number of studies that prove this out. Unfortunately, a lot of them are behind paywalls, but other folks have done the work of reading them and explaining them, like this post here. I've reblogged a lot of lists of books that can get anyone started on learning this information too, but I didn't tag them great (they're under the fat lib tag, but I'll have to go add the books tag to them all).
The only way to get long term, significant weight loss is to maintain a low calorie diet forever. And that is an eating disorder. If you don't start eating more and gain the weight back, then you will die. That's the only "diet" that works.
I was asked what I'm "gaining" by telling people that diets don't work. What I hope I'm gaining is people who live. People who nourish themselves, who respect their body's needs, who get the opportunity to create more memories with their loved ones. Dieting kills people. And when it doesn't kill them, it saps the joy out of their lives.
Please, take care of yourselves.

"Are you saying we should just allow people to have bad and scary thoughts and feelings??? And talk about them openly??" Yes. Yes I am. Your need to forcibly correct other people's thoughts and feelings into something more palatable and punishing them if they refuse to hide them is FAR more toxic than the hypothetical suicide joke you're getting mad about
The other day my wife told me about this influencer who said she needed to go on ozempic so she could go from 130 lbs down to 115 and I really cannot stress the degree to which we have so COMPLETELY lost the plot with this glp1 shit. Like not only are people are going on this shit for purely cosmetic purposes, the cosmetic purposes are delusional. This is the kind of mindset that gives people eating disorders but now because you can get a prescription instead of having to starve yourself or enduce vomiting a big swath of the general public seems eager to go along with it. Body Positivity did not go fucking far enough because I am being so real when I say that fatphobia is more of a public health crisis than obesity has ever been
Body positivity was doomed to be coopted. We need fat liberation.

If the holocaust denialism SOMEHOW wasn't enough for you to shut up about your favourite kids book as an adult; JK Rowling just committed a sex crime IRL against a transgender woman.
