Oh yeah! I’m fine, this is just out of precaution. The hostility against RPF has gone up (or has become more popular, as far as I can see) and that, in addition to other factors, has aided my decision of putting all my RPF fics under user only. My main tumblr should be visible through tumblr search only. This side blog is not as popular, so I felt there was no need to make it “secret” yet.

This can change again when it’s calmed down, or ig, I’ve developed a sense of proper uncaring. Maybe if I’ve locked my internet presence more. I might unlock my ongoing fics if people would prefer that. (Coincidentally, a large part of my kudos come from anonymous users, so I suppose missing that would kinda suck lmao). For what it’s worth, I’m also okay with people downloading my fics as epub or pdf.

Anyway, I’m terribly sorry if you don’t have an account for tumblr and/or AO3. I have 8 unused AO3 invites, so if you enjoyed reading my fics, I can give an AO3 account to 8 people!

Confirmation this screenshot is real. It was tweeted at 3:06 PM on Nov 3, 2022 (local time). For those with screen readers, the tweet reads: "The FBI has received credible information of a broad threat to synagogues in NJ. We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility. We will share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of emergency call police."

They followed up at 3:39 pm with: "We are taking a proactive measure with this warning while investigative processes are carried out." Then at 6:00 pm: "The FBI takes all threats seriously and we are working with our law enforcement partners actively investigating this threat. We are also engaged with our faith based partners in the affected community."

This NPR article (published 7:35 PM Nov 3, 2022) has slightly more detail: "The alert was posted after officials discovered an online threat directed broadly at synagogues in New Jersey, a law enforcement official said. The posting, though, did not target any specific synagogue by name, the official said." The article also says officials in Jersey City and Hoboken had promised increased police presence.

As of 11:10 PM Nov 3, 2022, Newark's FBI field site's website has no further information. Please do not panic, but consider talking precautionary action and/or reaching out to your synagogue for advice/concerns/etc if you attend in New Jersey. Remember that a threat is not a guarantee, but that acting with your own safety and the safety of your community and family in mind is always a positive.

I am reblogging because this post is time sensitive, and to provide further links/verification. I have only done a cursory search, and I encourage those in the area or more up to date to reblog with updates and/or corrections. Again, please do not panic or sensationalize, as it does no one any good-- this is only to spread information for those who need it.

My grandmother was harassing me about the dangers of online dating, and my grandpa was like, “Oh fer crying out loud, leave her alone. My parents met online, she’ll be fine.” Apparenly my great grandparents were both telegraph operators who would chat over the line in between messages and fell in love and my great grandma moved halfway across the country to marry a dude she met over the telegraph.

No one alive in the family had ever heard this story until like 70+ years later when I happened to start seeing a dude from OK Cupid.

I looked this up because I had to know what it’s from. It’s a film called The Gay Deceivers (1969), and it’s about two straight men who, seeking to avoid the draft, claim to be gay, but then have to keep up the pretense when the army places them under surveillance.

The man in the red cardigan in the clip was played by Michael Greer, who was openly gay himself - unusual for the time. He actually worked closely with the director and rewrote much of the film’s dialogue to reduce the homophobia and make it more realistic. As a result it’s quite progressive for its time, having a gay character, played by a gay man, living in a happy same-sex relationship, which is more than a lot of media offers us today.

Plus the clip is delightful.
