Thea narrowed her eyes for a moment, thinking about it. She needed her nails done but Ronnie was right about her nails. Wasn’t easy playing instruments with nails. “Fine. Shopping and then drinks. And no worrying about Kyle. Now go get showered and dressed.”

Ronnie almost wanted to do a little victory dance when Tea agreed to skip the nail makeover and go straight for cocktails. “Thanks.” She gave her friend a quick hug and then hopped out of bed, dropping the pillow on the edge as she headed for the bathroom to turn on the water. “I think we should try scoring two hotties tonight. We have the night off, so we might as well take advantage of it.”

“You’re not a moron. You just care. That’s not a bad thing.” Thea gave her wrist a squeeze. “Now come on. You need to get up and get a shower because you stink,” she said with a smile. “Then you and I are going to go shopping and get our nails done and we’re going to not let this Kyle kiss get to you anymore, okay?” Thea hopped up. She didn’t always know what to say but she knew what to do, and she knew that laying around bemoaning the kiss wasn’t going to do anything good. “I’m not taking no for an answer, now get up. Let’s go.”

Ronnie crunched up her nose, staring up at Thea with with a grunt. “Do we really have to? I barely have nails. They get in the way.” She knew there was no way out of a shopping trip, but maybe she’d get out of the salon torture. “How about we go and have a drink instead?”

“That’s what I’m talking about, Ronnie.” Thea said simply. “You keep him in his glass box as the guy that broke your heart. I’m not telling you to fall in love with him - he already lost that opportunity. I’m just saying that you should put him in another category. Take him from the guy that has all this control over your heart and make him the guy that you screw when you want to get off.” Shaking her head, Thea sat back. “Look, you don’t have to, but all you did was kiss him and you were practically catatonic in bed because he’s still the Almighty Kyle that shoved your heart in a blender. But if not through sex, you have to find a way to make Kyle just.. Kyle.”

Ronnie mulled over the other blonde’s words. She did make sense, in a way. But at the same time, Ronnie was too afraid to take that first step. She was a very controlling, very dominating person. She was the leader, the person everyone followed. Yet with Kyle, she was nothing but a stupid teenager all over again. He set her back ten years with nothing but a look. “I don’t know how to go about this. Even if I were to do that, I wouldn’t even know where to start. God, I’m such a fucking moron.”

“Exactly! And as long as you let him continue to be the guy that broke your heart, you’ll never get over what happened. Maybe that you need is to take that away from him. Take away the power he has to make you think about the way he hurt you. You’re the bad bitch around here, Ronnie. You get to decide what he is and how he benefits you. Use him and then kick his ass out of bed. Now that’s the real way you get revenge.”

“See, if you were talking about some random guy that I wanted to hook up with, I’d call you a genius. But him? I can’t do that, T. I can’t let myself get that close to him again. It’s not gonna end well. I’m gonna get my heart broken again and... I don’t think I can survive that.” Last time was already hard enough to get past; to even survive. If it wasn’t for Milo, Ronnie would probably have ended up dead in an alley after a bad trip on whatever drug she could find. She couldn’t risk getting wrapped up into Kyle again, only for it to end the same way.

“Well, go with me here for a second..” Thea clapped her hands down on Ronnie’s knees and leaned in a few inches. “If there’s nothing there than maybe this can just be something - you know - fun for you. I’ve heard plenty of stories about how much fun you two had, especially when it came to fooling around and sex. What if you let it be just that?”

A blank stare was all Ronnie could muster as she listened to Thea’s idea. She had heard crazy ideas from the girl before but this? This was just way past crazy and right into delusional. “Are you saying I should be fuck buddies with the guy that broke my heart and made me swear off relationships for life? He’s the guy heartbreak songs are made of.”

Thea’s first reaction was shock. She wanted to gasp and be as loud and boisterous as she always was. But she could see that Ronnie didn’t need that. She needed something more friend-like. “Is that really a bad thing?” she asked after a moment. “I know you two have history but maybe.. maybe it’s not a bad idea to see if there’s still anything left there.” She reached over and brushed some hair out of Ronnie’s face. “How did it feel?”

Ronnie was like a fish out of water. She opened her mouth to speak. Then closed it. Then opened it again. Yet no words came out. Was it a bad thing? Yes. Was it a good thing? She had no idea. Probably not. “Weird. It didn’t feel wrong, just... I don’t know.” With a heavy sigh, she pulled herself into a siting position, crossing her legs indian-style. “There’s nothing left there. Not after ten years.” Her teeth were chewing on her lower lip, a habit she had picked up whenever she was nervous. “He was drunk, I was drunk-er. It shouldn’t have happened.”

“Honey, we all fuck up. That’s no reason to have yourself committed.” Thea flopped down on the bed beside Ronnie, and turned on her side to look at her. “Besides, it can’t have been that bad. What happened?”

Ronnie waited a few moments after Thea’s question, hoping that some power that be would let her suffocate against the pillow. When that didn’t happen, she turned her head around, her cheek now resting against the pillow. “I kissed Kyle.” Her face was contorted in a mix of seriousness, worry and maybe a hit of sadness.

“Remind me to never drink again. Or better yet, just go ahead and call the men in white because I’m clearly out of my damn mind.” Ronnie groaned, burying her face in the pillow. “I fucked up. Really, really bad.”

“And if you aren’t dead then you need to get your butt up, get dressed, and go to this party.” The last thing he wanted to do was get into another fight with her but he sure was going to if he had to. “I don’t care where you feel like going or not. Rolling Stone is throwing you a party and sending you on a headlining tour - something you have always dreamed about. So I don’t care if you are pissed at me. You’re going to stop being a brat, get the hell up, and go put a damn smile on your face for the people who are helping make your dreams come true.”

“You really wanna talk about dreams? You really wanna go there?” Ronnie had a vicious look on her face. His little speech got on her nerve for a reason she didn’t quite comprehend. Not that it mattered, it came from Kyle and that was enough. “I would love nothing more than to put on a pretty sparkly dress, set my hair up like some beauty queen and spread smiles all around at my own party. But you know what? I can’t. Because you’re there and ever time I look at your face, I want to bash it in.” She pushed him away from her with both hands before stepping around him and picking her phone back up. “My dreams don’t include you.” Lie. Biiig lie. All her dreams included him. Every single one. But that was years ago. Before he shattered her heart and left her to pick up the pieces by herself. Before he nearly ruined her career and ruined her. Kyle was the source behind everything that went wrong in her life. And his return could not be a good thing. Not when he left such devastation in his wake.

Being his former girlfriend’s manager wasn’t exactly the ideal position any guy wanted to be in. Because of their break up, she felt like she had a right to chose not to listen to anything he said. Well that was going to stop - tonight, Kyle had enough. She didn’t have to like him on a personal level but she was sure as hell going to stop treating him like he didn’t have any authority when it came to the band. After dressing for the party, he went to the hotel and head up to her room. He knocked but she didn’t answer. At first he assumed she was ignoring him and he continued knocking. He wondered if maybe she left after their talk but he didn’t want to risk going to the party and not finding her. After pulling some strings and getting access to her key card, Kyle opened the door and stepped inside. “Ronnie?” It only took a minute for him to find her, headphones blaring. He sighed as he rubbed the bridge of his nose and then walked over to her. This was going to be like giving a bath to a cat. He grabbed the wire to the headphones and plucked them out. “I wasn’t joking, Ronnie. Get up, put your damn shoes on, and let’s go.”

Sitting on the couch in jeans and her favorite KISS t-shirt, Ronnie’s head bobbed along with the music, her bare feet propped on the coffee table. She hummed the lyrics to herself, eyes closed as her hand gripped her phone. Music was her distraction; her getaway. But it was suddenly disrupted when the music came to a halt and was replaced by Kyle’s voice. If looks could kill, Kyle would have dropped dead the second Ronnie’s eyes opened. She stared at him harshly, jaw set. “What the hell are you doing here?” Pulling off the headphones, she set them on the table along with her phone and stood up, crossing her arms over her chest. “I told you I wasn’t going. Now get out before I call security.”

If Ronnie was mad before, now she was furious. The last thing she wanted to do was see Kyle’s face. So the best thing she could do was not go to the damn party with a frown on her face. But, of course, he had to pull the macho boss card on her and demand her to go, which only made her want to go even less. Instead of getting dressed like he asked, Ronnie took a seat in her very comfortable hotel couch, popped a bottle of vodka and turned up the music to the point she wouldn’t even hear him banging on the door. Yes, she was being childish, but fuck him. He was not barge back into her life after ten years and expect her to nod her head and follow his lead. Those days were over. She would not let herself be played by Kyle Evans anymore. Fuck him and his caveman ways.
