i guess you thought i was going to be that girl for you. the girl who would endlessly support you and make you look so good for having that claim. you didn't expect the words that flew like an asp off my tongue when suddenly you weren't the guy i thought you were. you didn't expect the cutthroat nature of a girl who knows exactly what she wants. you expected shy smiles, gentle hands; but you received a tongue that was a whip and a brain made for stopping boys like you in your tracks.

The things I learned in my first year of high school vary from math to science to english but more importantly to life. As more and more of my friends got into relationships, I found out two things: boys don’t like a girl who speaks her mind and that I don’t care. My freshman year of high school I was called a bitch twice by boys who had not even a five minute conversation with me. It just shows you have to love yourself more than any hate.

i learned that yes a lot of guys are just looking for an opportunity to call you a bitch but yes there are ones who actually care.

i learned that though it may seem perfect, nothing ever is.

i learned to never be stuck on a single guy.

i learned when it’s time to leave in a relationship or when to stop caring.

i learned what it’s like to be so angry at someone you can’t help but cry and when to stop replying.

i learned that if you find your best friend to hold on tight and never let go.

i learned that people including myself are petty af and are not afraid to try to make you jealous.

i learned to smile when you know people are watching.

i learned to open up about my insecurities and heartache.

i learned. that’s it.

things i've learned in the first semester of my sophomore year

i learned college classes will kick your ass if you procrastinate

i learned if someone is toxic and treats you badly in their time of woe, they will spit on you again and again in your own

i learned sometimes silence is the best answer

i learned relationships never truly last

i learned when you can't breathe from your anxiety attack, the best thing you can do is leave the situation

it’s been two months since the last time i’ve talked to you in more than clipped words and short phrases. two months since i’ve smiled when your name pops up on my phone. now i smile for different reasons. i smile because we’re both petty and too stubborn to admit we were in the wrong. i smile because it wasn’t meant to be.

it's been long enough i don't even keep track of how long it's been. you don't even register in my thoughts unless im telling a story about how dumb i once was. but now i will say i am the one who got away.

the best relationship advice i ever heard was from my physics teacher, he said, "when you're six, you love lucky charms, but as you get older you might realize lucky charms aren't good for you or taste as good as a different cereal. never settle for lucky charms when you might like something else better." in more basic words, don't marry the person you dated in high school, date so many different people until you meet someone who is just right for you.

when someone is taken out of your life, remember it's probably the best scenario. the things i heard about you after you left me were awful. nothing like the person i once liked. you are as foreign to me as before i met you. so when i run away from you, don't be offended, you're a stranger and my brain screams danger.

what are the odds that one of your friends hit me up? the fact that one of your boys found me pretty and didn't even realize at one point i was yours. the fact that they wanted to meet me and know me even though you already do, that's when it really hit me. you have no power over my life even between your boys and me.
