Juno: Ransom and I are dating now
Buddy: We've know for a while now
Nureyev: We just started dating last night
Vespa: Then what the fuck were you doing before
WHY is Second Citadel so slept on. Everybody loves Juno Steel, which they should it's great, but guys. Second Citadel. It's got those contemplations of humanity that I love so much. It's got polyamory. It's got homoerotic swordfights and I know you all love those. It asks the question "what do you do when you realize that your entire view of the world is inseparable from beliefs that you now know to be false and harmful?" which is a question that could stand to be asked more often. It has the most accurate written 13 year old I've ever seen in my life. Why does it feel like nobody else ever talks about it. Come on tumblr what are you doing
Many pieces of media have tried to create a "weird girl" character, few have reached the heights of Antigone Funn in Wooden Overcoats. The woman makes her own scented embalming fluid, falls asleep in coffins and daydreams about chaining Eric up on company time
Other all-time Antigone Funn moments from the notes:
"i asked chat gpt-"
well I asked the Glow Cloud (all hail) and it emitted a low whistleing and dropped a lizard on my head.

Back in 2013, I posted a Welcome to Night Vale fic and someone commented, “I’m autistic and I see myself a lot in the way you write Carlos. Did you intend for him to autistic?”
And I was like “I’m flattered you think so! No, he’s not intended to be autistic, but I’m glad you can see yourself in him.”
Now twelve years later I spent some time this evening trying to track down that comment to give a very belated clarification. Whoever you were stranger, hey. I only said no because I based Carlos heavily on me, and since I wasn’t autistic, Carlos wouldn’t be either. Well. I’ve learned some stuff in the intervening decade that strongly support your literary analysis.
rudyard funn character of all time. he has a persecution complex. everyone is actually out to get him. those two facts are not related. hes like 5"2. he threw his rival off a waterfall and gave him grapes afterwards. he likes spreadsheets. his best friend is a mouse. his first response to any situation is to scream and cry. he fell down a well. hes asexual. he posed in a naked calendar to preserve his work schedule. one of his enemies is a parrot. hes good with kids. he brought cooked rice to a wedding. he builds furniture for mice. hes shit at acting. his first friend used him to try and blow up the town. he got kicked out of boy scouts. he got framed as a serial killer. he broke instagram. his kettle is stolen from the council. he dissolved a corpse by accident. he hates corpses. he owns a funeral home. hes 35.
[ID: a post that has been edited to say "physically, yes, I could relisten Wolf 359 but emotionally? Imagine the toll"]
So, I had this idea at work, and basically couldn’t get anything else done for the rest of the day. I’ve been working since I got home *yesterday*, so hopefully there aren’t any major mistakes, because I am DONE. (Larger version of the gameboard here.)
(FYI: I made use of this phenomenal Monopoly template.)
EDIT: Thanks so much for all the love, guys. &nightvale;
And in case you’re interested, I made a full version of the game, free and downloadable over here! :D
I liked Slodwick’s design for this Welcome to Night Vale board game so much that I decided to make a fully playable physical version with a box, tray, and three dimensional pieces. (The box is made of plywood covered in a faux leather vinyl and felt.) I changed up a few things like the color of the money (matching traditional Monopoly colors except for the $500 bill which I made purple) and the obelisk/pyramid buildings. Since these would have been too difficult for me to make out of wood, I made the obelisks condos (black cubes) and changed the pyramids back to hotels (like those you’d find in an original Monopoly game). For the game tokens, I attached Slodwick’s images onto a piece of PVC pipe (spray painted black) on top of a piece of felt. I also designed and wrote up my own instruction book to match Monopoly rules more closely while still keeping some of Slodwick’s Night Vale flavor. As a finishing touch, I etched a Night Vale eye out of a brass plate, spray painted it black, and sanded the raised surface, giving it an interesting aged look. Overall, I think the project turned out quite well. Here are some more pictures I took of the project.
Quote from Welcome to Night Vale
Happy 5th Anniversary, Wolf 359!
People sick of therapyspeak in indie stories should listen to Wolf 359 because everyone has so much wrong with them and refuses to admit it. The comparatively straight laced by the book commanding officer gassed her crewmates so she'd get a week of peace and she's not even a little bit sorry about it.
Be proud of your place in the cosmos. It is small, and yet it is. How unlikely! How fantastic! And stupid. And excellent.

it's also worth noting that while eiffel is comparatively privileged in pretty much all other ways, he clearly struggles financially (and in lack of a support system) in ways minkowski and lovelace don't. they're career military with higher education and notable parents; eiffel is not. it doesn't have much of a material impact in space, all things being equal, but... cutter bought eiffel as prison labor. that spares him time served, but he's still going to have to live with that conviction on his record, and that complicates things. i think there's a discussion you could have about the dehumanization of addicts and ex-convicts and how it's made intentionally difficult for certain groups of people to re-enter or participate in society (and how that might overlap with hera's experiences re: legally-restricted personhood.)
