A card-based, one-shot TTRPG
New game! It's like The Quiet Year with LEGO. Get some pals together and tell the story of a journey. Make it as epic as you want it to be. It could be about an intergalactic pilgrimage, or a spring break road trip.
I made a game with my pal Nate Taylor! We just launched the kickstarter. It's a GMless, quiet-year-like, one-shot RPG. You play as a group of people, with a vessel, on a journey. You use illustrated cards as story prompts and built a model of the vessel at the table (LEGO works great). If this sounds like your kinda thing, here's the kickstarter :) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/forreststorrs/a-road-that-knows-your-name
CW: Harm may come to Totoro
Totoro slips away for a third time, betraying the claw-machine's trick. Well-known at this point, the claw's grip gives out just before its catch can be dropped to the player. It probably hangs on one out of every so many plays, but usually drops the prize just before victory. For the player it's an anime-skinned skinner box. For Totoro, it's a kind of hell.
The master of malicious compliance, the sultan of subtractive poetry, it's: Engineer Gogol! put together a little spoiler-free-highlight-reel for my fav gritty greasemonkey from that little comic I drew and @bloombeard wrote about space horrors and how work sucks. "Nerve Gardens" is here if you like that stuff.
Hi Forrest! I just wanted to say I got Nerve Gardens in the mail today and ate it up immediately-- and I loved it!! The art is gorgeous as expected, and I was instantly fond of Gogol's grizzly look and attitude, but I also really enjoy the subversions in this and Desert Birds and how well you pare things down into an inhabited and imaginative one-off story. I'm especially tickled by the spotlight on vandalism and corporate emergency symbols. And the surprise spread had me making noises... I was like "why are these pages so thick" but then I GASPED... really good stuff, very glad to add this to my shelf!
Thank you very much! So glad you liked it :) Full credit for Gogol's grizzly look and his vandalism subtraction poetry goes to @jonasgoonface. He added a lot of killer ideas as he was illustrating it.
Hi, I just found out about your project NERVE GARDENS, and the Kickstarter is already over, how can I give you money for the pdf now?
Great question! To which I finally have an answer. It's on itch now! You can go here for the pdf of Nerve Gardens now! https://forreststorrs.itch.io/nerve-gardens

Very fun being the Warden for this one :)
Today is the FINAL DAY to back Old Souls on Kickstarter! We're clooose, but still need $1.1k to be fully funded...!
To lovers of body horror, grumpy andro ladies, and heavy symbolism, I hope this one tickles your spine. Thank you so much to everyone for your support so far! :D
A body-horror graphic novel set in the deep woods
pilots that die.
pilots that don't make it back to base. pilots that take a plasma lance straight through the cockpit, vaporized into pink mist, death so instant it's almost merciful. pilots that are severed from their mech so suddenly that it doesn't even register as a de-sync. pilots that leave their handlers all alone, struggling with the emergency controls as they retreat, not realizing why half the mech's systems went offline.
handlers who grieve.
handlers who let out agonized sobs as they see the giant hole of melted metal where the cockpit was. handlers who were okay with death until it happened to something close to them. handlers who hold the charred remains of a spinal interface in their hands, weeping alone in their quarters. handlers who refuse to take a new pilot. handlers who choose to fly alone.
mechs that remember.
mechs that get repaired, the metal patchwork making it obvious where the damage was. mechs that are emblazoned with "in memoriam" next to their kill tallies. mechs that behave strangely. mechs that have minds of their own. mechs that sync surprisingly well with their solo handlers. mechs that have the digital soul of another in their circuits, something that's long gone yet living on in silicon and copper.
pilots that never truly die.
JUST LAUNCHED on Kickstarter! I'm proud to announce that my short horror comic, OLD SOULS, is being published byCloudscape Comics.
In the woodsy mountains, Amarante lives in a cabin with her talking plants. Every night, against their counsel, she is compelled to hike deep into the forest in search of what she calls "beauty"... but she finds a corpse full of holes.
Does body horror and delicious inkwork make your spine shiver? Back this gorgeous book!
Old Souls rules! Jackarais really flexing his horror chops in this one. It's spooky and touching and deliciously strange. So great to see @cloudscapecomics pick it up. If you're into comics you'd be a fool to pass this up. A fool!
Poem of the Comet
I do not pray for hope. This poem is not a prayer. The One Who Climbs eats prayers. It holds them in store to turn against their casters. It turns hope into a starving dog. I leave my hope at the crumbling gates of the dead emperor's castle. I forget my prayers at the top of the stairs. I leave faith behind, and descend.
The One Who Climbs swells like mold in the dark. It crawls out from under the bedrock. Deeper than the dungeons, below the oubliettes and the sewers. It climbs from under the foundation of the old castle. The one beneath this one. The one we pretend we've forgotten about. The One Who Climbs would and drag us down to remember, or it would paint us a picture when it drinks the sun to wash down our prayers.
For a thousand years, it knew only one axe. A heavy, butcher's thing carried down every comet's return by the emperor's black knight, whose prayers had been alchemically removed by his master. That was why the emperor made himself ageless, he said. To keep The One below us. To stop its climb. But the emperor had more to worry about than an old thing in the dark. He should have been more worried about us.
What is The One waiting for, now that the throne is vacant and the emperor's un-rotting corpse stands strung up in our fields to scare crows? Now there is no black knight to stop it? The hero who slew the knight, and her friends who emptied the throne were driven by grief, desperation, and hate. But we are no fools. The knight was dead, but the axe remained.
The comet returned last night. Now I hold the axe. I the hero who slew the knight. But I need no alchemy to steel myself. I've seen a revolution through to the end, and I know the hopelessness that road demands. The One Who Climbs carves faith into doubt and asks questions that only prayers can answers. But I already need to know what I need to know, and I don't need faith to know it.
I know for what the deep thing waits.
It waits for me.
