Moffat Appreciation Week 2018 Day One: Favourite Doctor - The Doctor

“Same software, different case.”

Although Steven Moffat may have accomplished the unprecedented feat of writing for no fewer than nine different Doctors throughout his time on Doctor Who - and that’s not even counting those from The Curse of Fatal Death - in my opinion his much greater achievement was only ever really writing for one.

“The Doctors are all the same Doctor really, at the end of the day, but you can slide the faders up and down.” 

Whilst they unmistakeably all have their own distinct personalities, quirks and attributes, I have never doubted that, in the hands of Moffat, they are all ultimately the same character. One who, despite the differences between incarnations, is always guided by and aspires to uphold the same basic principles throughout his life.

Never cruel. Never cowardly. Always kind.

With Twice Upon a Time behind us, the Moffat era is officially over. Whatever comes next - and we’re looking forward both to Chibnall Who and to whatever Steven Moffat will come up with in the future - it’s safe to say that things will never quite be the same again.

So this is definitely the time for another Moffat Appreciation Week!
