"common sense protections for minors" is a funny phrase coming from school shootings and pedophile protections country
How far are you willing to go, Michael? To the end.
she really does just look like a baby who was just born
A Wild Chikorita Appeared!
This adorable chikorita furby was my latest commission! I have been a pokemon fan for a long time so this one was so much fun to work on! It also has me thinking that I want to make a furby based on my favorite pokemon drifloon!
One of her feet is bigger than the other one. She stepped on a bee and the swelling is yet to go down. I made her chug liquid Benadryl, so she should be alright. Makes me feel like a bad furby parent.
Meet my cursed furby child blerp
the worst part of summer is that people get sooo comfortable expressing their disgust at having to see other people’s bodies. they’re always complaining about wrinkly old men at the nude hot springs or fat women in bikinis at the beach. I hate that shit. if you’re not capable of being normal about bodies you personally don’t find attractive, just turn your head to look at something else! and if you’re not smart enough to do that, then at least do the rest of us the courtesy of suffering in silence, because we don’t wanna hear your weird comments. thanks.
Just finished listening to the audio book for Candelaria by Melissa Lozada-Oliva and it was all sorts of weird and fucked up and had me yelling at the characters while I was walking through the woods, so needless to say I enjoyed it
Lots of imagery of pregnancy, consumption, and recording throughout
I really appreciate how Lozada-Oliva differentiated the voices of the characters as the story just between perspectives. Each one felt so unique while still rooted and tied to the others
If you like weird books with rhizomatic plots, multiple perspective characters, and a lot of family trauma that contributes to a crazy supernatural phenomenon involving a non-zero amount of cannibalism, you should definitely check this book out
Seems legit
we all hear about kudzu being introduced as "erosion control" in the South but I don't think contemporary people understand on a gut level what that means
these are images from a 1930s pamphlet that endorsed kudzu, entitled "stop gullies: save your farm"
It was Bad.
Invasive plants need to be understood as part of a much larger cycle of incredible violence against the land.
For context: erosion on that scale occurred as a result of our clear-cutting entire states. The land east of the Mississippi used to be covered in old-growth forest to an extent that we literally can’t imagine anymore, because most of us have never seen a forest over 100 years old. It turns out if you remove all vegetation from a landscape, you end up with a bunch of loose soil ready to move downstream. A fast-growing plant that covers everything in dense vegetation sounds like salvation when you’re surrounded by 40-foot deep gullies that get wider with every rainstorm.
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
Shakespeare is like this
Every time I see a Van Gogh that’s not one of his better known pieces it absolutely blows me away
Have you seen this shit my liege? smh unreal
You ever think about how old people have no idea what “survivor bias” is, and take full credit for being excellent out of things where they lucked out?
“Back in my day we didn’t have any of these childhood protective things, we were smart enough not to do stupid shit on our own!” Except your little neighbour, who got the funniest idea at the age of seven, and got his skull pierced when he slipped?
“Back in my day nobody got divorced, we stuck together and fixed our problems!” What about your cousin, who was slowly killed by her husband because she had nowhere to escape him?
“Back in my day nobody had ‘mental problems’, we didn’t whine, we just toughed it out and endured life!” Hey remember that guy you used to work with, who seemed really friendly and normal, and then suddenly hanged himself ‘for no reason’?
“Back in my day we didn’t have any of this ‘gay’ or ‘transgender’ thing.” You did, but your family cut all ties with her before you were born.
You kinda start seeing it in everything they think, if you start looking for it.
“When we were kids nobody whined about car seats or bike helmets. We didn’t use them, and we all survived!”
Yeah, except for the ones who didn’t.
"Extinguished Gentleman"
Ink on paper
Some of the edgiest queers in the world who constantly talk about romanticizing cannibalism and gore is punk or whatever will turn into the literal pope when confronted with anything realistic having to do with sex like im sorry but people fuck in the park at night sometimes always have and always will and you’re going to have to go about your life without advocating for them to be skinned alive in Alcatraz
And— dare I point out the obvious— the policing of these public areas historically was and still is a huge element of police brutality and discrimination against gay people. Undercover cops frequently patrol areas that are known cruising spots and initiate with men so they can make an arrest when the guy reciprocates. They will also arrest men who are seen looking at each other over the urinals in these spots. Or for peeing while wearing a rainbow wristband.
Federal law enforcement turned a person they arrested in the transit hub directly over to ICE.
If you are going to be squeamish about these facts of public life then you should really be aware of how at odds that is with your “punk” “be gay do crime” aesthetics and how your fears are directly implicated in fascist policing of our bodies
idk if this is controversial or not, but I really like when non-professional writing like fic has hints of author bleedthrough when it comes to like, what different people assume is common knowledge. Like sometimes I’ll be reading a fic and it’ll just be obvious that the person writing it is either obsessed with medicine or has been to medical school, because they’ll use terms that are just a shade too technical without explaining them. It’s never the super specific stuff that they’d know other people are unaware of, it’s always the things that once you’ve known it for a while you forget it’s niche knowledge. It’s fun because as a fanfic reader it reminds me of how this is a fun hobby community, where everyone has their own thing going on outside of fandom. Everyone’s got their own specialties and they can’t help but write that into their work sometimes
…well this post sure took off
new ask game; what do you think my hobby, skillset or knowledge or any other details of me based off my writing
Blue says trans rights
Some part of me does hope that one day down the line, they will cast a trans male actor to play Alan on Broadway or even on tour…but one can dream
