KILL ME LOVE ME
"Murong Jinghe, if I can't kill you today..."
The Double | frame
The Double 墨éØäŗé“ (2024) Dir. Bai Yun Mo, Lu Hao Ji Ji, Ma Shi Ge ā Ep. 18
I continue to love what the drama did with the husband. It would have been so predictable and boring to make him a villain who would do anything for a promotion but he's just a pathetic broken man who loved his wife but not as much as his own life and perhaps only realized just how much he loved her after he committed unforgivable acts against her.
I love that he's haunted by her even as he knows she's alive. The haunting did not stop after his finding out.
This whole scene was amazing, where he does talk to her in the flesh and she confirms to him that he's nothing to her.
I loved this confrontation for her because she deserves to live free of her past and her pain but for him it's a different kind of liberation - a bleak one but one nonetheless - she is alive so he did not kill her after all, but he's dead to her and he can't even console himself in her past love, not really. She's not dead but she might as well be as far as possibility of ever being together is.
Love him walking through his own music video afterwards.
The thing is, her being alive has dispelled some of his guilt and by that restored some of his sanity but it's not good news for the princess because now the man who's snapped is playing with all his own (bleak as fuck) marbles. With the confirmation of her being alive on top of the confirmation of her understandable hatred and on top of long realized confirmation that the princess doesn't like him or love him or even care if he lives or dies and just wants to torture him for kicks, and with any sort of hope or fear tormented out of him, this is a man with nothing left to lose but a hell of a lot of plans for revenge of his own.
I mean, look at this scene, where he's kneeling in the cold/snow all night. These are some serious Tantai Jin eyes here.
And when he goes in and she keeps slapping him, there is no fear, there is no shame, there is no self loathing, there is not even mute endurance, the way there used to be. This is a man who is letting a lunatic vent as needed to get whatever he wants done.
I mean, look at this man as he says this to the princess. He's barely bothering to conceal how false his words are even if the killing intent is very real. If I were her, I'd sleep with a knife under my pillow but she's so demented she doesn't get it.
Instead she pokes him some more, another confirmation as to how she doesn't see him as human.
Lady, this is the face of a man who would like to wear your skin as a cloak. You are so epically DUMB!!!!
He's got more human emotion imagining his wife than in the whole above scene. And once again, I love love LOVE how he's haunted by the woman he very much now knows is alive. Because what's dead is his chance at happiness and his happy marriage and any real path forward.
It is SUCH an unusual take on the usual villain from past life/evil spouse our FL must overcome and I love it!

Never thought Iād do Bollywood fan art! Especially for a movie that was mostly meh. EXCEPT for the Khilji/Kafur scenes. Those were GOLD. Like when Kafur is presented to Khilji as a slave (dressed like a slave girl).
Khilji: What can you do for me?
Kafur: Anything my lord, if you wish I can give you my life
Khilji: Can you take lives?
Kafur: Yes my lord. Khilji: Kill those two *points at his uncles viziers*
Kafur: *Kills viziers* Anything else/Aur kuch? *smirk*
Drew this from memory and was too lazy to look up Jim Sarbhās face (despite his brilliant performance)
i need you hindu mythology fic writers to carve your fics on stone and bury it so when archeologists from the future dig it, people will think it's the lost part of the canon and will start reciting it as mantras and eventually it'll dominate the canon so now rama sita and lakshman living happily ever after by the lake with a pet deer, krishna and arjuna kissing during the battle and draupadi and shikhandi killing bhishma becomes canonā¢
i need to people to understand, ponniyin selvan is not about the men it is about kundavi and nandiniās power game THEY are the real brainsĀ
The contrast between karikalan seething and coping on the other side of the kingdom winning wars literally no one asked him to fight because he canāt get over nandhini and then thereās nandhini playing 4d chess with kundhavai back home as they fight over whoās guy would sit the throne so they (the women) can rule (I know kundhavai doesnāt really want to rule but she did teach ponniyin selvan how to be a good ruler/prince so essentially sheās the one guiding the kingdom)
THIS. extra information (*spoilers*) kundavi is in fact the architect of the golden chola reign. Since she marries Vandhiyathevan she gets to stay in thanjavur and she also rejects to be the queen of the bana kingdom and remains as a princess. She is a guide not only to Arulmozhi but also his son (Rajendra Chola) as she raises her nephew along with her mother after Vanathiās demise during childbirth. The men who took the throne were great men but it is the women who made that happen.Ā
And,, Nandini good lord, Kalki literally made us lose our mind over her, because she is quite literally a wielder of true power. The control she has on herself, on others, the confidence. No matter what people conclude, she was truly a victim at the end of the day, maybe if kundavi and sembiyan devi did not oust her, she wouldnāt have become who she became to be It is almost her motherās story repeating, but Nandini, she is vengeance. (insert batman voice).
Whoever did the costumes and jewelry for Ponniyin Selvan was top-notch and made great choices.Ā
Arulmozhi and his brother Aditya wear double tiger claw pendants. Besides being important to signify courage and bravery, itās also particularly appropriate because they are princes of a dynasty that uses the tiger as its symbol. (You can see the red Chozha flag with its pouncing tiger in many scenes.) Aditya, who we almost always see in his armor, also has the tiger worked into that very same armor where the leather protects his upper legs. Fur also fringes his shoulder pads, again evoking a tiger for Aditya whose personality is the most focused on physical might and combat.Ā
Madhurantaka, brought up as a devotee of Shiva, wears garlands of rudraksha beads interspersed with gold. While other characters wear them as well, he wears the most, then tears them all from his chest in a scene where he verbally and symbolically rejects the identity of a devotee, declaring his ambition for the throne and saying he was never interested in leading a life devoted to Shiva to begin with. (Iām not sure if Iām remembering correctly, but I think he also wears a lot of white when we first see him on screen, mirroring the white worn by men and women associated with temple for its purity. It would be interesting if he stops wearing white completely in the second part of the film.)
While the Chozha characters wear gold, Ravidasan and the rest of the Pandyas are all wearing silver. The only gems they have are on their slain kingās sword, and the beads they wear look to be made of natural materials rather than precious metals. Along with the fact that they now must live in the forest, the dull silver jewelry and how they dress is a strong visual indicator of their status compared to the Chozhas. Theyāre also all wearing black and dark red. Beyond visually matching the image of Kottravai with smeared blood for her, the heavy amount of black in the Pandyaās clothing mirrors how they have remained in the shadows, planning to murder a Chozha prince in revenge. Itās like a symbol of ill will and matches the fact that Ravidasan is one of our antagonists for the first movie.
The great hair choices in this movie are difficult for me to talk about because Iām not sure I can articulate it very well, (let alone completely), but I think they also fit each character very well. In Arulmozhiās first appearance, his hair is oiled and combed back around his head in a nice, controlled and neat style. But when we first see his brother Aditya, his hair is unbound and flowing around him. Itās more energetic and matches his passion for fighting and the intensity of the anger and heartbreak that he feels, which itself feeds in to his need to fight to distract himself. Even if both brothers change their hair during the movieāof course Arulmozhiās is more unkept while heās actually fightingāhow it appears in their first scenes is important in establishing the audienceās impression.Ā
Ravidasan also has a lot of intensity and motivation for fighting, and he shares that long, loose hair with Aditya, but itās also messier. (I donāt think he ever ties it back or binds it up in any way?) He and the other Pandyas have separated themselves from the rest of civilization to live in the forest, and theyāre still focused on the calamity of the death of their king and destruction of their rule. The fact that Ravidasan has probably not conditioned or oiled his hair since the day his king was killedāand has focused purely on revenge and a will to fight since thenāperfectly matches how the team of Ponniyin Selvan chose to style his hair.Ā
Finally, the very long and neat hair of Oomai Rani combines with the white color palette they gave her to build a very specific impression of her character. Itās not the same as the reason Aditya and Ravidasan have unbound and more wild hair than other characters either. (Other men have long hair as well but itās generally combed back or something like that.) Again, I have not read Ponniyin Selvan, but her appearance plus the fact that she has mysteriously shown up out of nowhere twice to save Arulmozhi made me think of the quality of shakti. Iām not sure how else to talk about it.
