"Two of the deadliest people the Barrel had to offer and they could barely touch each other without both of them keeling over. But they tried. He tried. Maybe they could try again."
I absolutely HATE book videos which have a sound from Six of Crows, yet their list of books that they're showing does NOT include SoC. Like a few days ago, I saw a vid with the title being 'Book boyfriends who if they couldn't walk, they'd crawl for their gf's' and none of the books shown in the video was Six of Crows! Literally that is where the sound is from! We need some justice for our dregs
kaz brekker: i would come for you
me: when kaz found inej after she got stabbed in six of crows, she said āyou came back for meā (cue the investment line) because she didnāt fully trust that he would. Then after they got inej back from van eck she told him she didnāt know if he would come if she couldnāt be the wraith anymore and he knew that it was his fault that she doubted him but when he tells her āi would come for youā he means it as a promise.
And this all goes back to the very beginning of their relationship, when he walked away from her at the menagerie after their first encounter then went back for her the next day. So yes, he would come for her, because he always has and he always will. And in that moment he had to expel that doubt from her mind, which is why he goes on and assures her that if he couldnāt walk, heād crawl to her, and theyād fight their way out together, because given her past, he needed her to know she wasnāt actually just some object of monetary value to him.
And finally at the end of crooked kingdom he gives her the ship because the best gift he could give her is her freedom and the autonomy to do what she wants with it. And he tells her āsay youāll return,ā because the best gift she could give him and the only thing he asks for in return is for her to choose to come back to him eventually.
kanej lines i lose my mind over daily
He needed to tell herā¦what? That she was lovely and brave and better than anything he deserved. That he was twisted, crooked, wrong, but not so broken that he couldnāt pull himself together into some semblance of a man for her. That without meaning to, heād begun to lean on her, to look for her, to need her near. He needed to thank her for his new hat.
One minute he made her blush and the next he made her want to commit murder.
She smiled then, her cheeks red, her cheeks scattered with some kind of dust. It was a smile he thought he might die to earn again.
āYou know I can do it, Kaz, and you know Iām not going to refuse. So why ask?ā Because Iāve been looking for an excuse to talk to you for two days.
āWhy the net, Kaz?ā Yes, why the net? Why something that could complicate the assault heād planned on the silos and leave them twice as open to exposure? I couldnāt bear to watch you fall.Ā
What do you want, then? The old answers came easily to mind. Money. Vengeance. Jordieās voice in my head silenced forever. But a different reply roared to life inside him, loud, insistent, and unwelcome. You, Inej. You.
Tell her to get out, a voice inside him demanded. Beg her to stay.
Speak, she begged silently. Give me a reason to stay. For all his selfishness and cruelty, Kaz was still the boy who had saved her. She wanted to believe he was worth saving, too.
He took a breath. āI want you to stay. I want you to ⦠I want you.ā
The truth was sheād tried to sneak up on Kaz plenty of times since then. Sheād never managed it. It was as if once Kaz had seen her, heād understood how to keep seeing her.
āI can hear the change in Kazās breathing when he looks at you.ā "You⦠you can?ā āIt catches every time, like heās never seen you before.ā
His gaze found hers. Heād known she was there all along. Of course he had. He always knew how to find her.
Nina glanced from Inej to Kaz and saw they both wore the same expression. Nina knew that look. It came after the shipwreck, when the tide moved against you and the sky had gone dark. It was the first sight of land, the hope of shelter and even salvation that might await you on a distant shore.
āI would come for you,ā he said, and when he saw the wary look she shot him, he said it again. āI would come for you. And if I couldnāt walk, Iād crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, weād fight our way out togetherāknives drawn, pistol blazing. Because thatās what we do. We never stop fighting.ā
It hurt to stand here like this, so close to the circle of her arms. It isnāt easy for me either. After all sheād endured, he was the weak one. But she would never know what it was like for him to see Nina pull her close, watch Jesper loop his arm through hers, what it was to stand in doorways and against walls and know he could never draw nearer. But Iām here now, he thought wildly.
āIām not ready to give up on this city, Kaz. I think itās worth saving.ā I think youāre worth saving.
Sheād laughed and if he could have bottled the sound and got drunk on it every night, he would have. It terrified him.
āWait,ā he said. The burn of his voice was rougher than usual. āIs my tie straight?ā Inej laughed, her hood falling back from her hair. āThatās the laugh,ā he murmured, but she was already setting off down the quay, her feet barely touching the ground.
She felt his knuckles slide against hers. Then his hand was in her hand, his palm was pressed against her own. A tremor moved through him. Slowly, he let their fingers entwine. For a long while, they stood there, hands clasped, looking out at the gray expanse of the sea.
Still obsessed with the fact that Kaz went from āstay in ketterdamā to āsay youāll returnā
mild spoilers for crooked kingdom
Kaz calling Jesper āJesā like Colm did and telling him who Jordie was
he really does see him as a brother
Ow my heart š š
Anyone else just remember Kaz selling all his assets to pay off Inej's contract, bandaging her wounds without his gloves, buying her a ship, holding her hand, reuniting her with her parents and making her laugh and feel like you want to find a quiet corner and sob in it?
kaz: you donāt want a look inside my head, nina dear.
*inside kazās head*: inej inej inej inej inej inej inej in-
āYou shouldnāt make friends with crows,ā heād told her.
āWhy not?ā she asked.
Heād looked up from his desk to answer, but whatever heād been about to say had vanished on his tongue.

Iām rereading Crooked Kingdom. Is this your soft, quiet, peaceful little girl??
āBefore Van Eck could take another breath, she slammed her forehead upward, shattering his nose. He screamed and released her as blood gushed over his fine mercher suit.ā āāGo on, Van Eck, threaten me. Tell me all the little things I am. You lay a finger on me and Kaz Brekker will cut the baby from your pretty wifeās stomach and hang its body from a balcony at the Exchange.āā
saints, I love her so

AND ANOTHER THING WE NEVER TALK ABOUT
Kaz and Inej have regular like, what, gossip sessions? theorizing meetings? In the beginning of SoC Kaz says that he and Inej āhad concocted a hundred explanations for the ambassadors deathā (paraphrasing lol). So. When in the WORLD are they having these discussions. Youāre saying she would regularly show up at his window (this we knew) and they would CHAT? They would engage in SMALL TALK? SCUZE ME?
yes, technically in Kazās chapters we should get to learn about his plans, but instead we get a step by step on the exact color of Inejās eyes, why she is the best person and he the worst, why she is far too good for him, how he wishes he could touch her, and how she may be the most magical being ever to walk the gloomy streets of Ketterdam
one of my favorite things about kaz is that he's such a smart character. i feel like a lot of books say a character's smart and proceed to never show it. kaz? bro has an arsenal of brain cells and uses every single one. he either knows OR IS RESPONSIBLE for literally every plot twist in the series. like when i hear about his plans and stuff, i need to take a minute just to appreciate how smart it is. what i wouldn't give to be as clever as him
