I am Sarah.

(I used to go by the user evellynssocbrainrot, but then I changed it to whimzzzyarts)

I love visual art in any of its forms. I also love reading (particularly fantasy), analyzing complex characters/fictional relationships, ice cream, animating, daydreaming, and cute, pretty, shiny things that catch my eye enough to interest me.

My recent and long time obsession is the Grishaverse, expecially Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. I've read every other book in the Grishaverse, have seen the show multiple times, read tons of fanfiction, particularly Kanej fanfiction, and devoured any other piece of Grishaverse-related media I can think of.

I meant what I said about Kanej, I love them to death. Have been since 2017.

I also agree with the people who say that Kaz is both a cat and a dog person. But his two og associates, Inej and Jesper, are heavily divided on the cat vs dog topic.

So one day, as Kaz is scribbling numbers away on his papers, Inej is seated on his window, Jesper is seated on the chair across from Kaz, and they have a conversation that goes like this...

Inej: What a cute kitty! Do you see, Jes? Look at the way it walks on that fence

Kaz: *flicks his eyes at her but remains silent*

Jesper: *snorts* come on, 'Nej, obviously dogs are better

Inej: *offended* dogs are cool, but they never beat cats, you have no idea how intelligent cats are

Jesper: cats are mean and hissy, one can at least have fun with dogs, right Kaz?

Kaz: *absentmindedly* they're useful

Inej: *scrunches her face* well, you aren't required to do so much for cats, they are independant and manage themselves perfectly, they're also great for mice control, don't you think we should get one Kaz?

Kaz: *lifts his gaze to her* you make some solid points, Wraith

Jesper: but, Kaz, you just said that dogs are useful, they could be trained to protect the Slat, so we should get a dog

Kaz: *stares at the wall and blinks into the abyss*

Inej: and then have them bark loudly enough to inform the entire neighborhood and make us twice as visible to enemies?

Jesper: and what of the cat? Have it leap around and knock shit off the shelves?

Inej: it won't once it develops a routine

Jesper: a dog won't when it develops a routine too

Inej: Kaz, you pick, cat or dog? Cat right?

Jesper: No, Kaz, dog! Pick dog!

Inej: he will pick cats, just you see, he would like their personality more

Jesper: no he won't, he'll pick dogs because they are better trained!

*both stare expectantly at Kaz who continues staring at the wall*

Kaz: both have their merit

Kaz: although, Inej does have a point about mice control and quietness

Agreed, OP. There is definitely a level of physical appeal to him, in canon, especially as several characters were implied to holding an attraction towards him, and I'm not just referring to Inej and Jesper.

Several of the girls at the Menagerie were implied to liking him. You could argue that they were tasked by Heleen to do that, but the way Kaz is described in those scenes leaves the impression that some may have genuinely wanted his attention.

And then there's also Imogen, who liked him too.

There IS a noticeable physical appeal.

But not conventionally. Someone can look bruised, intense, fucked up in several areas and lacking in nutrition, but they can still look attractive. Those two things are not exclusively separate.

Thank the heavens for Colm Fahey and him being presented as a complicated parent figure.

Like yes, he loves Jesper dearly. And yes, his parenting methods also damaged Jesper significantly. He wanted to protect the only family member he had left, but he did so by forcing the very same person to hide a major part of his identity. His love was as comforting as it was suffocating. And it's okay for these two things to coexist without cancelling each other out. Truly one of the most masterfully written parent/child relationships out there.

Maybe because he was also threatened a lot as a child by older gang members?? There's a reason why he's so fucked up, you know?

Besides, he said it himself that he was beyond merciful because his other option was murdering her, because if she had notified anyone of their presence, their whole entire damned plan, which includes rescuing Inej, would fall down like jenga blocks. It was a measured risk.

But what if we equated the idea of Kaz wearing gloves to not just trauma, but a simple fashion preference? Like, the Grishaverse settings are based off of old versions of real life cities and countries, and during those time periods, gloves were used as accessory garments by both men and women. I can totally see Kaz wearing them just because. Particularly white colored ones. They blend right into his skin sometimes, but he don't fucking care, okay?

Actually, the white colored gloves could work in Canon too. My first thought is mostly a headcanon and a "what if?" But the white colored gloves would be spooky because, like I said, at certain times, his pale skin would give the impression that he isn't wearing gloves at all, which could be useful on jobs where having black gloves would be an obvious visual cue to him being the infamous Dirtyhands. Most people either wouldn't register something off about his hands at all, or they would be deeply disturbed when the shake his hand and feel that smooth texture.

Don't think I'll ever be normal about how Kaz and Jesper look at Inej and Wylan, respectively, and see a person who has suffered immensely and is still good. Despite all the world has taken from them, they held tight to their goodness, to their faith, to their hope, and Kaz and Jesper both find this beautiful, because they couldn't.

It's so important to me that Jordie loved reading. So important.

It's proven in the line: "They'd eaten waffles and fried potatoes, and Jordie had purchased every novel he craved at a bookshop on Wijnstraat" (Six of Crows, page 211).

And now I'm just wondering where those books went after his death. If Kaz remembered his most favorites and bought them for himself post-CK, and every time Inej dropped by, he would read them to her in honor of his brother.

Kaz and Jesper's relationship always makes me completely mental.

Cause no. You DON'T get it. Jesper was Kaz's first recruit for the Crow gang, and even THAT was based on a lie. But that's all Jesper needed to fall into the trap. He loved it all too much. He went too deep. He couldn't escape the cards, the debts and Kaz. They were the only things he felt good about, that made him think he had value. Outside of all the chaos he chased, and the chaos he causes. And for Kaz? This is bad, BAD. His coping mechanisms hunger for control, precision, and predictability, BUT JESPER IS THE OPPOSITE! Worst of all, JUST LIKE JORDIE!! And it's triggering Kaz's worst and deepest weaknesses. It's raising things he TERRIFIED of experiencing again. So he tells Jesper to keep playing, to control him, to keep him in check but it's hurting Jesper, it's poisoning Jesper and leading to his destruction. But Jesper just craved the validation, the words that tell him that he did a good job, but every time, he was met with a cold shoulder, a cruel remark, a dismissal and it stings, it makes him question his own worth, BUT HE DOESN'T GET IT FROM KAZ'S PERSPECTIVE, WHO IS FUCKING TERRIFIED!! Who is refusing to quit, who is refusing to soften, who is refusing all vulnerability and choosing to protect Jesper using cruelty instead of open love. Their coping mechanisms are not compatible, they are toxic and suffocating, SO SUFFOCATING. Jesper is codependent, Kaz is horrible. AND I CAN'T BLAME EITHER OF THEM BECAUSE THEY BOTH HAVE THEIR REASONS. They are young and stupid and broken. And it all culminates when Kaz calls Jesper JORDIE, when it comes out that he doesn't want to lose another brother, but in a way that continues to make Jesper think that Kaz hates him and will never accept him. He doesn't hear Kaz begging him to be careful and not mess up and die. But despite it all, their friendship survives till the end. And hopefully finds a happier, healthier stage at some point.

I agree that Kaz parallels more with Nikolai than he EVER does with the fucking D*rkling, but its also important to remember the distinctions between the two.

Kaz built his reputation from the lowest point and starting with from literal scratch. Meanwhile Nikolai started from a position of power.

Kaz didn't feign his bad nature at all, Nikolai constantly used covers.

Kaz had a loving relationship with his brother, Nikolai hated his. (His reason was understandable tho, obv)

Nikolai once kissed Aline without consent (I don't give a fuck what his reason was), Kaz wouldn't do that even if he wasn't touch-aversed.
