why does the it fandom love to hate stanley uris? no, really, why?
because last time i checked, stan “the man” uris is not there for your reddie angst. he’s not there for some trope where he gets rejected and richie and eddie start to date. that is not his purpose.
stanley uris is a character who’s dealing with the struggles of being jewish, being bullied, trying to be forced into a religion, and a killer clown. he is afraid, he’s snippy, he’s organized. he makes quick remarks at richies jokes because he can keep up. he cares about his friends. he is helpful, he’s brave, he’s a loser.
he is his own character, with his own struggles. his own feelings, his own friendships. he’s not there for richie. he’s not there for bill. shipping is obviously okay, but that is not his entire purpose.
when i read fixit fics, people rarely make stanley alive. it’s only eddie. why? so they can have their reddie fantasy of them getting married and having a pomeranian.
the book is not about reddie. that’s an element in the newer movies, yes, but that’s not the primary focus. the book, the movies, the miniseries, is about bill denbrough. a kid who was sick on a day his brother wanted to go outside. he made his brother a paper boat, his brother went and sailed it around. he met a clown in the sewer, and said clown killed him. bill wants revenge. he takes his small group of friends, and they do research, they find the clown, they kill it. they come back 27 years later to kill it again, once and for all.
it’s not about richie falling in love with eddie. and i’m not talking about fanfiction, that’s an element, but i’m talking about the source material. it’s not about reddie. it’s about bill denbrough. and everyone loves to shit on bill, but i see why he acts the way he does. him and georgie were close. he’s hurt, he’s scared, he wants georgie back. that is what the book is about.
stan is his own character, and the movies and books aren’t about reddie. thank you for reading, if you did
