Presenting the epilogue to “Wedding Letters”. Being as self-indulgent as I am at the moment, I imagined a scene after Simon and Baz’s wedding—after everyone went home—when the newlyweds might feel compelled to go back to where it all began: the turret they shared at Watford. ❤️

I'm planning to do a Taylor Swift-themed playlist for all our Carry On kiddos but I thought I'd start with my (and let's be honest, the entire fandom's) favourite child. One might imagine that based on his initial broodiness and his colour pallette often being quite dark and grey, Baz might be more reputation-coded but he's an instropective, soft boy. He is all fluffy pink clouds and dreamy heart-eyes. He writes disgustingly sappy poetry and weeps openly over his own prose.

He is a Lover girlie through and through. He has the theatric spirit of a kid who would scream the bridge of "Hits Different" after Simon tries to break up with him - because...

"I FIND THE ARTEFACTS, CRIED OVER A HAT, CURSED THE SPACE THAT I NEEDED! I TRACE THE EVIDENCE MAKE IT MAKE SOME SENSE WHY THE WOUND IS STILL BLEEDING. YOU ARE THE ONE THAT I LOVE, DON'T NEED ANOTHER METAPHOR IT'S SIMPLE ENOUGH!"

The running thread between so many of these songs is very much an internal I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Screaming in silence, anguish, pain...my favourite kind of love.

I didn't expect to make Simon's playlist as dark as it is. Again, on the surface, it would make more sense to have his songs be more up-beat and cheerful but as we know, the Simon Snow trilogy gets significantly darker - as does Simon's mental state.

Can you guess which songs would be for his relationship with the Mage? Lmao. Also Suburban Legends is on there because that's how I think Simon would perceive his break-up with Baz:

If I had to assign an album to Simon it would be Midnights - the anxiety and self-loathing is at a fever-pitch, particularly during WS.

The theme across these songs is about running away from a destiny that somebody else decided for you. But then there are a few love songs about meeting someone unexpectedly (ahem, Niamh, ahem) and knowing you've finally found your person, despite the odds.

AAAAnd finally we have Penelope Bunce. Hers is the most eclectic collection out of all of them - it was super hard to comb through the TS discography and find something that would actually fit. Luckily, I did. She's probably the most reputation-coded one of all of them!

in half your classes simon is smoking so much it’s making you sick, you can barely focus. baz is no where to be seen but the two of them have always been a packaged deal before…it’s strange without the spit wads and punches always been exchanged…

then baz is back! not that you care, you were just getting used to the relative silence (despite the humdrum’s attacks). you’re studying for midterms in the library and you are suddenly magically pulled to see simon outside fighting a dragon . with baz. as soon as the spell wears off, you go back inside. you’re sick of their drama and you have tests.

the fighting that had been a near constant for all of your watford years seems to be missing, you notice, being nostalgic about your last year. some crazy stuff seems to have happened, and simon and that girl he always hangs out with—penelope?—never came back. baz delivers a speech without once being interrupted by simon yelling about vampires. you’re idly wondering where exactly the chosen one could have gone after his prophecy had been fufilled, when you seeing baz-bloody-pitch DANCING with simon snow!! and then they KISS, in front of EVERYONE. you’re dumbfounded. their rivalry practically was the graduating year’s defining trait!
